Cancer Fighting Foods

The Myths
• Some television shows and websites support the idea that if you eat a certain food, you will prevent yourself from getting cancer.• Examples: blueberries, green tea, tomatoes, flax seed, kale, etc.
• There is another idea that eliminating certain foods like smoked meats and fried foods will prevent a person from getting cancer.
The Truth
• Cancer prevention, related to nutrition is more than just eating one specific food.
• Most research suggests, a balanced diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains is the number one key to lower your risk of getting cancer.
• Your lifestyle is what is going to aid you in cancer prevention.• Stay active and eat a healthy diet
Research
• Since there are many different forms of cancer, they cannot be treated the same when trying to understand the underlying cause.
• There are several links to some foods and specific types of cancer.
• Multiple studies have to be done and get the same results consistently in order to classify a food as being helpful in preventing cancer.
There’s no magical food to cure all!
• What we consume one day is not going to affect our overall risk for developing cancer.
• The long term diet pattern is what really matters, as with preventing any diet related concern.• Ex. cancer, obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.
