ACTION
Care Packs for the Middle East
The Order has partnered with Samara’s Aid Appeal to assist in our goals of delivering humanitarian aid to persecuted Christians and other refugees in northern Iraq and Syria. Samara’s organization is a UK-based grass roots team
of concerned individuals who have been successfully sending clothing and other aid items to the Middle East for several years. The UK Grand Priory has
recently collected and assembled care packs of clothes and other humanitarian items to help fill a lorry for onward transport to the region. (Special thanks to Nick Gibson who kindly transported the boxes to Brighton for us.)
The North American Grand Commandery has committed to be a central collection point for similar items to be shipped from America. We are currently in the process of raising $20,000 to purchase a shipping container to fill with aid items. Donations are welcome.
Some of the medical supplies the Order has been able to provide...4 Trauma shears - 2004 H-Bandages (as used by USMC) - 464 Cinch Tight Bandage - 17 each (Similar to the H-Bandage but more compact)4 The box weighs just under 20kg4 Total value including shipping approx £1,435

Many thanks to Richard A. “Doc” Clinchy of our Florida encampment, who co-ordinated the collection and dispatch of the medical supplies and provided this special report,.
When I was first approached by my Order of St George colleagues about supporting International Peshmerga Volunteers (IPV), there was no question in my mind that helping those with the courage to confront and defeat ISIS was a worthy effort.
My initial shipment to IPV was a modest supply of the same combat dressings used by the United States Marine Corps, products manufactured by a company my firm represents as a distributor. In addition, we included a significant number of trauma shears in a quantity sufficient to supply not only the current IPV medics but also to provide a sufficient reserve supply for those that might be lost. More recently, the call went out to find a supply of MMR
and polio vaccines for the Peshmerga children.
For that element of IPV support, I referred our UK brethren to GP Labs, a company we
have used for about ten years as a source
of pharma-ceuticals for international projects. While GP Labs cannot donate the vaccines, they are willing to sell the vaccines to the Order at cost.
Robert Soder-strom, Grand Commander of our North America Commandery, has established a Gofundme appeal to raise the US$25,000 it will take to totally accomplish the objective of purchasing an adequate and ongoing supply of vaccines for the children of IPV.
pCare packs are unloaded at one of the refugee centres supported by Samara’s Aid Appeal.

Celebrating success and progress for our OrderThe Order returned to its London spiritual home, St Margaret’s Church, Lothbury, in the City of London for our May 2016 investiture ceremony, at which we were delighted to welcome new members and announce the promotions of those working hard for the causes we support both at home and abroad.
Road to Rio – We’re backing Meggan!
Our Thistle and Rose Commandary is proud to support elite wheelchair racer Meggan Dawson-Farrell. The Commandery has made a grant to Meggan to support her campaign to represent Britain at the Rio Paralymics later this year.
Meggan has been an elite wheelchair for five years. She competed for Scotland in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and for Great Britain at the World Junior Championships. Earlier this year she took a hat trick of gold medals for Great Britain in the women’s 200m, 400m and 1,500m events at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Grosseto, Italy.
“My drive and ambition for this year is to see me compete for Great Britain in the European Championships in June 2016, and the Rio Paralympic Games in September,” says Meggan. Visit her sponsorship page at https://uk.sponsorise.me/en/project-meggandawsonfarrell and make a donation!
Congratulating our new Chevaliers, Grand Prior Simon McIlwaine said that this is an exciting time for our Order, as we expand on both sides of the Atlantic. “We have just enjoyed a great ceremony,” said Simon, “but, important as they are, we’re not just about badges and regalia. We are very much a modern, working charity, one which takes very seriously our commitment to the good causes we support.
“In the UK, we support the work of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the support financially the Regimental Welfare Fund of our affiliated regiment, the 3rd Bt Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment,

In the presence of King Richard
Members of the Order spent an enjoyable and informative trip to Leicester recently, when we visited Leicester Cathedral and the last resting place of King Richard III, who mortal remains were discovered under an obscure car park in 2012.
Our visit started appropriately at St George’s Chapel and we then toured the cathedral before moving over the road to the nearby visitor’s centre, build on the site of the incredible discovery of Richard III’s body.
Debate will doubtless continue to whether Richard was a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ king, but more than one Leicester citizen ascribes the 5000-1 outside win by Leicester FC of the Premier League to the honoured presence of the king in their midst!
pAdmiring the pall that covered Richard III’s coffin at his reinterment.

while further afield we have on-going commitments to Samara’s Aid Appeal, which works among refugees in the Middle East, medical support to the Copts in Egypt, and the humanitarian relief work
led by St. George’s Anglican Church in Baghdad.”
“As we celebrate the successes of the Order, let us re-dedicate ourselves, under the banner of St.George, to ever greater efforts for the vulnerable communities we exist to serve!”

pOur thanks and congratulation to our Grand Director of Music Chevalier Dr. Keith Salmon, and choral singers Nicholas Morrell, Catherine Harrison, Amy Lyddon and Christopher Webb, who did so much to make the investiture service a success.
Support our fundraising with gofundme
The Order seeks to raise funds to purchase vaccines for refugee children in northern Iraq. This is a project that we are working on with the International Peshmerga Volunteers.
We have a pharmaceutical supplier willing to sell us the medicines at cost and the Peshmerga Volunteers have agreed to administer the vaccines to the children in the local camps.
Please consider making a donation for a good cause as well as sharing this link with all your friends.

Embracing new technology for fundraising campaigns, the Order has created a gofundme account. As social media expands, technology offers new ways for charities to seek donations. gofundme.com makes it simple for a person wanting to make an online contribution. It even allows the viewer to share the online fundraising link effortlessly with other like minded friends.

tChevalier James and Dame Valerie
Sellars of our Georgia Commandery
caught up with the Grand Chancellor
and Grand Prior during their recent
time in London. “Thank you so much
for the lovely visit. It was great to
catch up on you all and the Orders
ongoing activities,” said James.
The International Knightly Order Valiant of Saint George takes its inspiration from the ancient and honourable Christian Order of Knighthood founded in 1326 by King Károly Róbert of Hungary.
Although rooted in the timeless values of chivalry and charity, the Order of St. George takes a very modern approach to its work. A registered charity (in England) the Order has an active social media presence and a varied range of social activities. Contributions to fundraising events supplement the annual oblations and other donations offered to benefit the causes supported by the Order.
In 2015, the Order took two major steps forward. We formally established our North American Grand Commandery,
which is leading on our work in the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean. As in the UK, the North American Grand Commandery combines supporting the Order’s charitable work in the Middle East and Africa with backing local endeavours, particularly in support of charities helping rx-servicemen and woman.
Also in 2015, the Order was officially recognized as a United Nations NGO with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic & Social Council. This is a powerful
recognition of the increasing professionalism of the Order’s activities and the importance of the work we undertake for some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.
We warmly welcome into membership of our vibrant Order Christian ladies and gentlemen over the age of 21 years who wish to be involved in improving the lives of others. For information about joining our Order, please visit our mebership page at
