Back to School at Taunton
Just as all the elementary, high school, college and university students are headed back to
school, we will also be offering a chance for learning right here at Taunton Mills. Our
Dementia Care Philosophy program at all our Schlegel Villages is called Living The
Dementia Journey and it is a mandatory training module for all of our team members.
We are now excited to be able to offer the opportunity to have our residents, families and
volunteers attend. This is not focused education on the physiological or biological
components of dementia, but more in the day to day realities of those who are on their
journey through dementia.
Each person will experience dementia in their own way based on their personal history and
experiences. Each care partner also will experience dementia in their own way for the loved
one that they are caring about. Our “Living The Dementia Journey” program helps each
person touched by dementia to learn more and how they can help others. It is important to
care for ourselves in order to help care for others. It is only in this way that we can be true
care partners and work together in order to develop more meaningful relationships.
Watch in September for our scheduled dates and speak to Jodie Walker if you would like to
come to our Overview Module. These sessions are offered monthly starting in September as
we took a break over the summer. This way you can get started learning more about your-
self, and about how you can help those living with dementia to live well.

Message from Michelle Hofman, Life Transition Coach, LTC, Ext. 5835
The Life Transition Coach, Long Term Care, is pleased to inform you of her new hours.
Michelle will be in the Village of Taunton Mills most Mondays at approximately 8am . If a
Monday happens to be a holiday, Michelle will instead work on the Tuesday at 8am.
She will be working Thursdays from 12:30 - 8:30pm. In this way, Michelle hopes to
be better available to families that can only come in the evenings.
The Life Transition Coach shares an office with the Neighbourhood Coordinator in Perry.
She hopes to be posting a schedule somewhere on the windows to the office - she just hasn't
figured just where exactly.
Michelle's extension is 6860 which is shared with the neighbourhood coordinator. If you
wish to leave a confidential voice mail, please let the phone ring and listen to the message.
You can then leave a message for Michelle if you press 2.
A Message from Jillian Heaver, AGM LTC Ext. 6847
Many people have been asking about the availability of our new physicians. If you have a concern regarding
your family member in Long Term Care, please let the charge nurse on the neighbourhood know. These are
the physicians and their typical visiting patter for the Village.
Dr. Hasan-Medical Director-Perry, Dunlop and 10 residents on Claremont-Tuesday and Thursday.
Dr. Bhimani-20 residents on Claremont-Wednesday morning or evening.
Dr. Nasarullah-Dryden-Tuesday mornings
Just a reminder the Family Council meets Wednesday September 20 at 330 in the boardroom in LTC. We are
looking for more family members to participate on the council so please attend if you can. We meet once a
month and discuss issues regarding quality of resident care. Please see Kim Rutschmann DNC or Jillian
Heaver AGM if you have questions regarding Family Council.

GENERAL STORE
Come check out the General
Store as we have a variety of
great items. We really have
something for every-one, so
stop by and say hello!
Quote of the Month
For me, I am driven by two main phi-losophies: know more today about
the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.
Neil deGrasse Tyson

This Month’s Riddle My life can be measured in hours,
I serve by being devoured.
Thin, I am quick
Fat, I am slow
Wind is my foe.
Last Month’s Riddle
This is a most unusual paragraph. How
quickly can you find out what is so unusual
about it? It looks so ordinary you’d think
nothing was wrong with it – and in fact,
nothing is wrong with it. It is unusual
though. Why? Study it, think about it, and
you may find out. Try to do it without
coaching. If you work at it for a bit it will
dawn on you. So jump to it and try your
skill at figuring it out. Good luck – don’t
blow your cool!
Answer The letter “e” is the most common letter
in the English language, yet it never appears in the
entire paragraph.

Love Is...
A group of children, four to eight years
old, were asked the question, "What does
love mean?" Here are their insightful an-
swers.
Sue, Age 6- If you want to learn how to
love better, you should start with someone
you hate.
Donna, Age 6- My mommy loves me more
than any one else. You don't see anybody
else kissing me good night when I go to
bed.
Sandi, Age 8- When my grandma got ar-
thritis, she couldn't bend over to paint her
toenails anymore. So my granddad does it
for her, even after he got arthritis, too.
That's love.
Andy, Age 7- Love is what is in the room
on Christmas if you stop opening your pre-
sents and listen.
Chloe, Age 4- Love is what makes you
smile when you're tired.
Annie, Age 5- Love is when mommy gives
daddy the best piece of chicken.
Joe, Age 7- Love is when daddy comes in
all sweaty and smelly and mommy still
tells him that he is handsomer than Robert
Tipper Gore discovered that her husband's great
great uncle, Gunther Gore, was hanged for horse
stealing and train robbery in Tennessee in 1889.
The only existing photograph shows him standing on
the gallows. On the back of the picture is this inscrip-
tion: "Gunther Gore; horse thief. Sent to Tennessee
Prison 1883, escaped 1887. Robbed the Tennessee
Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, con-
victed and hanged in 1889."
After letting President Clinton's large staff of profes-
sional image consultants review this discovery, they
took the following actions to assist Al's campaign to
become our next president. They decided to crop
Gunther's picture, scan it in as an enlarged image,
and edited it with image processing software so that
all that is seen in the final picture is a head shot.
Along with this enhanced photo, the accompanying
biographical sketch was sent to the Associated
Press:
"Gunther Gore was a famous cattleman in early Ten-
nessee history. His business empire grew to include
acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and inti-
mate dealings with the Tennessee railroad company.
Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his
life to service at a government facility, finally taking
leave to resume his business enterprise with the rail-
road. In 1887 he was a key player in a vital investi-
gation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective
Agency. In 1889 Gunther regrettably died suddenly
during an important civic function held in his honor
when the platform on which he was standing col-
lapsed."

Remember when you were little and your birthday cake aglow with all those magic candles was in
front of you and you'd take the biggest breath you could and blow with all your might to blow those
candles out with a single breath so a dream could come true? As we've travelled along life's highway,
some of those dreams have come true and some have changed and some new ones have joined our
dreams. A dream is a truly wonderful thing whether it's an old one or a new one and we're all glad we
have them. Some dreams are big and some are small and some of the big ones that seem to be out of
reach can be modified so they really and truly are attainable. The TLC (Tender Loving Care) Commit-
tee here at the Village aspires to create opportunities for meaningful and shared activities. Realizing a
dream allows us to explore a new experience in an authentic relationship to create happy moments to
share, enjoy and remember always. For our next initiative we would like to share some of your dreams
with you. We hope you watch for our dream posters following soon near your dining rooms. There
will be 'dream ballots' and all you'll need to do is fill out the ballot with your name, your dream and
tell us why it's your dream. Everyone's dream is eligible to be a winner in our draw. What's
your dream?
