MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE PLAN FOR THE PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH
Each year the Archdiocesan Office for the The Society for the Propagation of the Faith sponsors the Missionary Cooperative Plan. This year, the COVID-19 Pandemic is still affecting the Missionary Cooperatives Plans' traditional way of interacting. While the Missionary Cooperative Plan is scheduled for next weekend, there will NOT be a guest speaker, however, the Second Collection next Sunday will be in support of the Propagation of the Faith.
Pope Francis reminds us of the many challenges missionaries face daily which we might take for granted. The second collection at each Mass next weekend will be sent to the Propagation of the Faith Office to support the needs of mission Dioceses and Religious Communities. Evangelization is at the heart of the Church's mission throughout the world, and we ask you to be as generous as you are able.

PLAN COOPERATIVO MISIONERO PARA LA PROPAGACIÓN DE LA FE
Cada año, la Oficina Arquidiocesana de La Sociedad para la Propagación de la Fe patrocina el Plan Cooperativo Misionero. Este año, la Pandemia de COVID-19 sigue afectando la forma tradicional de interactuar de los Planes de Cooperativas Misioneras. Si bien el Plan Cooperativo Misionero está programado para el próximo fin de semana, NO habrá un orador invitado, sin embargo, la Segunda Colecta del próximo domingo será en apoyo de la Propagación de la Fe.
El Papa Francisco nos recuerda los muchos desafíos que enfrentan los misioneros a diario y que podríamos dar por sentados. La segunda colecta de cada misa el próximo fin de semana se enviará a la Oficina de Propagación de la Fe para apoyar las necesidades de las diócesis y comunidades religiosas de la misión. La evangelización está en el corazón de la misión de la Iglesia en todo el mundo, y les pedimos que sean lo más generosos que puedan.

¡Saludos!
El 22 de julio celebramos la Fiesta de Santa María Magdalena, Apóstol de los Apóstoles. En 2016, cuando el Papa Francisco elevó su memorial a Fiesta, el decreto la elogió como, “... un ejemplo de una verdadera y auténtica evangelizadora, es decir, una evangelista que anuncia el mensaje central alegre de la Pascua. ... Ella es testigo de Cristo resucitado y anuncia el mensaje de la resurrección del Señor al igual que el resto de los Apóstoles. Por eso es justo que la celebración litúrgica de esta mujer tenga el mismo rango de Fiesta que la que se le da a la celebración de los Apóstoles ”. La Santísima Madre y Santa María Magdalena son las únicas mujeres honradas con una Fiesta. La misa de María Magdalena también tiene un prefacio adecuado, un raro honor.
Lucas presenta a María Magdalena en el capítulo 8, antes que cualquier otro evangelio. Jesús avanza hacia Galilea, “Con él estaban los doce, y algunas mujeres que habían sido curadas de malos espíritus y enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena, de quien habían salido siete demonios, Juana, esposa del mayordomo de Herodes, Chuza, y Susana y muchos otros que lo apoyaron con sus recursos ”(Lc 8: 1b-3). Estas tres mujeres independientes son testigos privilegiados, fueron sanadas de enfermedades y, sin embargo, fueron invitadas a unirse al grupo más cercano de seguidores de Jesús, lo cual era raro. Forman un grupo paralelo a los doce y permanecen con Jesús durante todo su ministerio. Así que están al lado de Jesús cuando explica la parábola de la Buena Simiente (Lucas 8: 4-15). Escuchan como Jesús nos insta a, “… escuchar la palabra, retenerla con corazón honesto y bueno, y dar fruto con paciencia” (Lc 8:15). En Juan 20: 11-18, Jesús llama a María Magdalena por su nombre y la encarga que hable por él, que les diga a sus hermanos y hermanas: "Voy a mi Padre y vuestro Padre, a mi Dios y vuestro Dios". (v.17) ¿Pero dónde está eso? Creo que Jesús le está diciendo a ella, y a nosotros, que para estar con él debemos tender a las conexiones de amor, justicia e igualdad que fortalecen y construyen nuestras comunidades. Así es como creamos y recreamos un lugar para la presencia resucitada de Jesús entre nosotros. Al final, estas conexiones son todo lo que tenemos y todo lo que necesitamos. Greetings!
On July 22nd we celebrate the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, the Apostle of the Apostles. In 2016, when Pope Francis elevated her memorial to a Feast the decree praised her as, “... an example of a true and authentic evangelizer, that is, an evangelist who announces the central joyful message of Easter. … She is the witness to the risen Christ and announces the message of the Lord’s resurrection just like the rest of the Apostles. For this reason it is right that the liturgical celebration of this woman should have the same rank of Feast as that given to the celebration of the Apostles.” The Blessed Mother and St. Mary Magdalene are the only women honored with a Feast. Mary Magdalene’s mass also has a Proper Preface, a rare honor.
Luke introduces Mary Magdalene in chapter 8, earlier than any other gospel. Jesus is moving forward into Galilee, “The twelve were with him as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others who supported him out of their resources” (Lk 8:1b-3). These three independent women are privileged witnesses, they were healed of illnesses and yet were invited to join Jesus’ closest group of followers which was rare. They form a group parallel to the twelve and remain with Jesus throughout his ministry. So they are by Jesus’ side when he explains the parable of the Good Seed (Luke 8:4-15). They listen as Jesus urges us to, “… hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.”(Lk 8:15). I believe Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna and the other women nurtured the good seed in their hearts and so developed the courage and “patient endurance” needed to remain faithful at the cross so Jesus did not die alone. That same courage and faith brought Mary Magdalene and the other women to his tomb on Easter morning and kept them there despite the danger. Again they were present and so were the first privileged to encounter the Risen Jesus.
In John 20:11-18, Jesus calls Mary Magdalene by name and commissions her to speak for him, to tell his brothers and sisters, “I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” (v.17) But where is that? I believe Jesus is telling her, and us, that to be with him we need to tend to the connections of love, justice, and equality that strengthen and build our communities. This is how we create and recreate a place for Jesus’ risen presence in our midst. In the end, these connections are all we have and all we need. NYC has announced a Vaccine Referral Bonus as the latest initiative to encourage New Yorkers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The City is seeking civic groups to perform outreach to encourage New Yorkers to get vaccinated, and will make direct payments to Ascension Church of $100 for every individual that we refer, and that receives their first vaccine dose at a City-run vaccination site.
Individuals making appointments, or walking up to City-run vaccine sites will be able to select their referring organization ( RC Church of the Ascension).
The individual must receive their first dose in order for the church to receive credit, and no personal information will be shared with the church. To utilize the vaccine referral benefit, patients must visit a City-run vaccination site, and must sign up and fill out an appointment slot on
