However, one critical element within your direct control is the investment you make in building productive relationships at work, whether with your boss, other senior stakeholders or former peers you now need to lead. So what are five actions you can take today to build better relationships at work? 1. Take time - when you take on a new role or new responsibilities, your network will need to change, as will relationships within your existing network. 2. Take responsibility for building new relationships – you need to flex your own style to suit 3. Identify what is important – focus on what matters and identify the three things that are critical, then tailor your communication around them. 4. Pay attention – be aware of how information and feedback about you will get back to your boss or others. Make a special effort with those whose opinions are respected. 5. Start as you mean to go on - if you find yourself leading former peers; re-engage those who you know to be good. Talk to them and start to understand how you can work together to benefit both your goals. Editors Note This month’s edition of our newsletter is dedicated to ‘Amplify’ – The Power of Sound. The microphone is an essential tool for many public speakers, and dynamic, high-quality sound can add dimension, emotion and excitement to a speech or an event. If not used correctly, however, microphones can cause problems that distract speakers, irritate audiences and ruin presentations. Fortunately, there are simple ways to ensure proper microphone use, whether it is at your next business meeting, Toastmasters speech contest or wedding toast. Even if none of your presentations or events involves huge budgets, high-profile audiences or the world’s finest equipment, you should still make every effort to maximize audio quality and minimize the risk of sound problems. Awful audio and malfunctioning microphones frustrate the audience and make bad impressions; but clear, intelligible speech amplification and high-fidelity music and effects can contribute immeasurably to the overall impact of a presentation or event. Just like the eloquent, passionate delivery of a well-crafted speech, or the high-quality projection of visually dynamic graphics, the amplification of sound should always enhance —not undermine— your professional image and the quality and impact of your work. MY CLUB – Yesterday and Today I joined the club as a charter member and VP-Education for HCL Expressions Toastmasters Club. Barring a few experienced toastmasters like Badri, Kumaragurubaran and Jamin, every other person in the club was new to the process and to the culture of Toastmasters. Apart from the times when external toastmasters showed up at our sessions, we had a single evaluator doing almost 2-3 evaluations in one meeting. We are also really thankful to the toastmaster’s community who lent a generous hand in creating a pool of mentors who would guide our charter members in their projects, roles and responsibilities. 2 years later, as I write about this today, the club status is sincerely a treat to the eyes and bring joy to the heart. The club also boasts of more than 5-6 Competent communicator, 5+ members available to mentor new members and also a 5+ member mentor pool. Members have also started step out of their own club to visit other clubs to bring in new and varied ideas home. The club also has started being actively involved in leaving a mark at Division level initiatives. Planning and executing milestone sessions has really raised the bar of a toastmaster club in the eyes of the management as well. In a gist, toastmasters of HCL Expressions club have really left a mark with their dedication and commitment. As a charter member I can vouch that we have come a long way today, but there are miles to go. That doesn’t scare me because the evolving leadership and maturity is a clear indication that things will be awesome in future. Wishing the club glories and honors. My transformation As Guest I was observing the meetings and registered as a Toastmaster officially in the month of April 2015. By today, I have been part of “Secretary” Ex-Com role which gave me a different approach towards leadership & communication. I wholeheartedly took the role and showing my best efforts by observing meeting minutes, conducting Ex-com meetings, preparation of Club Success Plan with the Ex-com and so on. Moving forward, I got the confidence in taking the Contest Chair role for Humorous Speech & Evaluations Contest and delegated the tasks within the Toastmasters. With the support from everyone the show was a grant success and helping hand to our sister club HCL Speech Weavers in their Content programs. It was the time for Elections and I was nominated for two Ex-Com roles and finally got votes for taking up “Vice President – Membership” and now in this New Year 2016, I’ve pledged on making our HCL Expressions with healthy membership and taking care of retention. Working towards on this goal, there are new members pipelined to beat “Talk up Toastmaster” Award. Toastmaster transformed me now as a good leader and communicator, now you are reading our Newsletter in my style as I’m playing the Chair for Newsletter Edition. Wishing all toastmasters a very all the best in their Journey! I wish I would be part of all the Events & Trainings conducted by Toastmasters International Thanks, TM Gowri Vice President – Membership Editor – Newsletter Edition for Jan 2016 Issue

My view

Every great enterprise

requires adequate time to be

accomplished. Only Aladdin’s

lamp had the power to order

the erection of palaces and

other edifices of a moment’s

notice and orders of that kind

were executed by

supernatural agents. Human

hands and even scientific

machines take time to do

things. The Pragatheeswaran

temple took six years to build.

The building of an individual’s

career requires year of

sustained effort. Man’s efforts

to land at moon required

years of experimentation,

planning and preliminary

space flights. My manager

always helped me to send e-

mail . After Toastmasters, I

got an appreciation mail from

my manager for a precise e-

mail communication. Now I

am changing into the master

of communication. Change

the changeable. Accept the

unchangeable. And remove

yourself from unacceptable.

Now I am Toastmaster Antony

Ananias alias Ant.

Toastmasters is a place where you can choose to crawl, walk, run or fly in improving your Communication and Leadership skills. I was considering that the Public Speaking Skills is for one who are in top management and why I should be worrying about it now as a Developer. After attending couple of meetings and when I attended District Conference for the first time, I could witness the magnanimous learning possibilities through this forum. So, what’s there in store for you?

First and foremost quality a leader should possess is Time Punctuality, attend any Toastmasters meet / Conference, you see how minute by minute planning is done to ensure this

Certain skills we learn only by doing, for example what works in our speech and what doesn’t work in our speech, we will be knowing only after delivering our speech in front of audience. Over the period of time, you see that you are conscious of don’ts and which helps you to be a Competent Communicator.

We all know that without basement, building a castle is of no use. In this forum, basement for any meet is the planning. Taking up Chair role, helps you to visualize and anticipate the need for planning and it tests your preparedness for un-anticipated situation.

When it comes to team work, the foremost quality a team member should possess is to be a moderator and a team player. Leadership is not about dictating and getting work done, it’s about knowing roles and responsibilities, ensures that all the team members are aware of their responsibilities and bring synergy in team.

This forum gives you a platform to hone your skills, to unleash your potential in both Communication and Leadership aspects of your Life. It’s a forum,

which solely depends on the member on how much they want to learn out of

it. You can decide to crawl, walk, run or fly, the choice is yours.

IMPACT OF TMS

I was just inspired  from the communication that was explicitly seen in all the members of Toastmasters. I was literally stunned after seeing the way all the TMs performed and the way they dealt with the guests. The approach they had in them was quite elegant and impressive which forced me to join. As a member of “Toastmaster club” taken her first step in TM journey by delivering her first speech on “Ice Breaker Project” about “360 degree feedback” for 6-7 mins. “IT IS ME”. As a Toast master , I started transforming in to a  speaker I'm synergizing with Vibrant "TM club" created a salubrious kind of variation in me but exuberance through which I’m trying to become an Incredible Speaker and the belief they have makes me to endeavor roles as well , through which I’m getting chance of making jubilant day by adding humor and reminiscent stories thereby future has some retrospective days to speak about and finally all my meetings which I attended so far is a distinct one and this TM club helped me to amplify myself. TM Durga Devi Treasurer

Friends,  Everyone has extra-ordinary power within you! How to bring it up!      Everyone can do great think! How to bring it up!            Everyone is capable of achieving your desire effectively! How to bring it up!                   Everyone is Unique and has talent! How to bring it up!                          Everyone is good communicator ! How to bring it up!

The answer is:      Enabling your objective and subjective mind properly.                                                                             Objective mind is the feeder for Subjective/sub-conscious mind.                                                                                          By properly and effectively feeding your brains (objective and subjective mind) you can make wonder                                                                                                       How to FEED :  Toastmaster is one of the way.

Let me explain objective and subjective mind.

Objective Mind : It is your guide in your contact with the environment. We gain knowledge through the five sense. The objective mind learns through observation, experience and education.                                                                 The Greatest function of the conscious mind is that of reasoning.                               Subjective Mind : It will accept your beliefs and your convictions. It is like the soil, it will accept any seed that you deposit in it, whether it is good or bad.                                                              To deposit good seed,  nurture a great tree and plug sweet fruits for your need and for others you need a platform.                                                                        Toastmaster is the one such platform. Come Let us NURTURE the next generation with ORGANIC way….

It is 3:00 PM and the induction hall in SDB2 looks like a picnic spot with people buzzing around here and there greeting each other. This was the venue for the first ever joint meeting of the two toastmasters clubs at HCL SEZ; HCL Speech Weavers and HCL Expressions. While I was waiting with baited breath for the exciting speeches and insightful evaluations I met the special speaker Toastmaster Kush Tripati. Kush had especially travelled to HCL SEZ office to deliver a session on “Hacks of ISC”, an educational speech for all members on the dos and don’ts for a winning speech. All being said the meeting was completely power-packed and was completely energizing for all the listeners. The theme being “Sunshine” and Word “Scintillating”, the faces and emotions of all members reflected the theme and shone brightly. The icing on the cake was the educational session by TM Kush Tripati who gave a very lively, humorous and thought provoking 20 minutes on how to ace at delivering speeches. The key take-away from his session was that a successful speech doesn’t necessarily have to be serious; it just needs a “Message” that you want to deliver and a “Story” to deliver the message effectively. When there is a message there is a successful speech is what he says, and for aspiring public speakers like me, this was like the magic formula for winning speech contests. Not just speeches but in life, when we have a purpose we have a successful life is what we also realized as the meeting progressed. But why have a message, a purpose we might question. The message or purpose is essential if we all want to amplify our presence in every facet of our lives. When we have the message or purpose we connect with our destination. That was not all; the meeting then proceeded to its most awaited part, the evaluations, where a team gave feedback for individual speakers and the meeting in general. With a mind full of newly gained knowledge and a heart brimming with emotions, I realized that 2 hours had passed when the meeting was called to an end with the award distribution. Kudos to all who were present there to make the meeting a grand success and a one to cherish.
