From The Chairman
Welcome to amazing August. I trust you are all golfing
well.
You will have noticed our green staff have started to
filter the sand out in the bunkers, so over the next few
weeks, we will be back up to standard with our bunkers.
We have a new golf system coming called Power Plus.
This will allow players to book their rounds, register for
the competition and enter their score cards in to the
system, all of this, plus it shows a leader board on the
screen. This will be introduced in the next 5 weeks, so
stay tuned.
Keep happy and swinging!
Until next month,
- John Atkinson, Chairman

Well it's been a great month for golfing.
The weather, although a little nippy in the mornings, has been absolutely amazing, It's hard to believe we are in winter, absolutely nothing like back home.
We were very happy to host the wedding between Julz and Darren Morgan on the 22nd of July with the ceremony taken place on the grassy area in front of the clubhouse, it really did look amazing.
The weather was perfect and with over 80 guests, the atmosphere was jumping. Chef Ray did a fantastic job with the many platters he produced, there was plenty of food and something to suit every taste.
On behalf of everyone here at Helensvale Community Golf Club, we wish Julz and Darren all the very best for their marriage.
If you or someone you know are looking for somewhere to have your next function, come have a chat with chef Ray and let him tailor a menu to suit your taste and budget.
I'm pleased to announce that we are expecting our first delivery of sand this month and will be addressing the worst affected bunkers in the coming weeks.
Speaking of sand, can I please remind all members that they must carry a sand bucket with them at all times. If we all get into the habit of repairing our own divots and one or two extra, then we'll all have a better course to enjoy.
Well that's it from me this month, again, if anyone has any concerns or suggestions, I’m always up for a chat.
Happy Golfing!

months.
The groundsman are aware of the bunker situation which we have
started to address as we have received the green light.
The front bunkers at the 4th green, the rear of the 9th green and the 3rd

In addition to this some bunkers sand will be
purchased and used to re-sand selected bunkers

We have had a massive increase with our Men’s Vets’ players over
the past few months. Average player strength on Monday’s is in
excess of 60 on a consistent basis.
We certainly appreciate the influx of Country Club members in
which our financial position has strengthened. This has enabled us
to have a Buffet lunch on the 8th August after the presentation.
A big Thank You to Peter, for the short time it takes him to finalise
the cards and leader board, enabling us to have the presentation
finalised prior to 1:00pm.
Until nest month, Happy Hitting.

A very successful July for ladies at our Golf Club. There were two major events for the Thursday girls, the Helensvale Cup has again been competed for, for the 31st year, the winner for 2016 was Teena Poelstra and the Gross Winner was Kath Thurgood. The 4BBB Aggregate Stableford, that is run in conjunction with the Cup Event, was won by Wendy Jens and Teena Poelstra. The Day was Sponsored by Jatcom Group Holdings again, and the trophies were magnificent. Thank you very much. The Saturday Business Ladies held their Saturday Challenge, which is the best 3 rounds from 4 rounds of stroke play, the overall Nett Winner was Marie Humphries with a score of 215 and the Runner up Nerindah McAndrew on 226, Division 1 Gross Winner was Joanna Hope with 283, from Lisa Sawford Runner up with 289. In Division 2 the winner was Neridah McAndrew with 310 and the Runner Up Judy Karm on 328. All the girls enjoyed the format and change from a daily event, the next major for the Saturday girls is the Business Ladies Foursomes which will be played over 2 rounds on the 17th and 24th September, 2017. There will be a draw for partners. The District Pennant is in full swing, in Division 5 the girls are equal leaders with two other Clubs and the Division 6 have had one win and a loss. We are all so pleased that we are able to field two teams. The next round is to be played at Parkwood. A very successful day was at our own Club on the 11th July. 108 ladies played, plus caddies and supporters which proved to be a great day. A special thank you to our 3 spotters, Pam Blenkins, Linda Liebold and Deidre Henderson, who helped to keep the large field moving, and Pam Blake who was a great help in the Clubhouse. The Captain V President Day was played in the middle of the month with a lot of fun and frivolity. This year the Captain’s team came out on top. The Ladies Club Championships commence on Tuesday, the 30th August. This event is played over 4 rounds with Divisions 1 & 2 playing Stroke, Division 3 playing Stableford. Good golfing. Putting Drill
One of the most easiest ways to pick up shots is by improving your putting. Here is a good drill to do either at home or the next time your on the practice putting green. Take 2 clubs out (besides your putter) and lay them parallel on the floor. Now take your putter and measure the distance between both clubs should be just your putter head apart. You should be able to just swing your putter between the 2 clubs. You can either put a ball down or not, that is up to you. This drill if you make sure your putting stroke glides back and forth without hitting the clubs on the ground. If you are hitting the clubs then that is telling you your stroke is not straight therefore it may lead to missed putts. Making sure your eyes are over the ball is another common mistake players oversee. This drill is simple and very effective. Take your normal putting stance and set up and address a ball. Take a 2nd ball out and place it between your eyes, then drop it. The ball your dropped should hit the ball you addressed. If the ball dropped and hit between your feet and ball, then you are not far enough over the ball. If the ball dropped passed the ball then you are too far over. Practicing these simple drills will sure improve your putting.
