BKD, LLP

Nancy Bass has more than 20 years of experience in the HR field, specializing in employee relations, compensation, and benefits. As a passionate HR professional, Nancy is a strategic business partner, balancing business needs with the needs of the employees. Her HR experience spans the industries of retail, newspaper, and global non-profit. Nancy has given back to the HR profession by spending significant time in various volunteer roles with the Springfield Area HR Association (SAHRA) and the Missouri State Council of SHRM in the current position of Immediate Past State Director. Nancy received her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri, her hometown. She has earned her SPHR certification from HRCI, the SHRM-SCP certification from SHRM, and is actively pursuing her CEBS certification.

Julie Cummings, Managing Director of Human Resources, BKD, LLP, has served as a Human Resources Executive with over 20 years of documented success in supporting and leading cross-functional teams, and assisting organizations in developing and capitalizing on its strategic initiatives. She has experience in several industries including manufacturing and distribution, as well as financial and professional services. In each industry, she has provided valuable insight in managing mergers and acquisitions to ensure smooth transitions. She holds an MBA from Missouri State University, her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), and her Senior Certified Human Resources Professional from the Society for Human Resource Management (SCP-SHRM).

Aaron joined Prime in May of 1998 as an intern on the fuel desk. As the Director of Human Resources, he is responsible for the recruiting and hiring of non-driving associates, Prime’s employee benefits package, and compliance with federal and state employment law. Prior to becoming HR Director in September of 2016, Aaron was a fleet manager in the refrigerated division. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and watching his kids play sports.

Tammy Few has twenty years of experience working in higher education. She has worked in both public and private institutions. As Director of Human Resources for Missouri State University, Tammy not only provides leadership through the management of a comprehensive human resources department but also serves as an advocate regarding benefits, policies, and practices that would have a positive impact on employees and as an advisor and strategic partner to University administration.

Cheryl received her degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resource Management from Missouri State University and is currently the Vice President of Human Resources for Burrell Behavioral Health. Cheryl has over 10 years of human resource experience in industries ranging from advertising to manufacturing. She is currently a member of both SHRM and SAHRA.

Eric Maxwell graduated from Missouri State University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Computer Information Systems.  He also completed a Master in Business Administration in 2002 from Missouri State.  He came to CoxHealth in October of 2004 as a Compensation Analyst and later went on to become the Director of Total Rewards.  As the Director of Total Rewards, Eric oversees the compensation and benefit structure of over 10,000 employees and is responsible for Employee Relations, HRIS, and HR Compliance.  Eric is involved in the community and is active in several organizations including the Missouri Hospital Association, SHRM, and Missouri State.  He was honored in 2013 as part of the Springfield Business Journal’s choice employer rewards for outstanding Human Resources Professional.  In his free time, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife, Kerry, and their two children, Spencer and Kaylee.

Born and raised in the Ozarks, Nicole has spent her entire career in the field of Human Resources. With over 14 years of experience, Nicole has learned the intricacies of working with people and has developed her strengths in the areas of leadership, relationship management, business communication, and consultation. Nicole’s career highlights include specializing in talent acquisition & retention, employee relations, risk management, employment law compliance, total rewards (benefits & compensation), coaching and mentoring, performance management, employee engagement, learning & development, and special projects management. Prior to joining O’Reilly Hospitality Management, LLC, Nicole worked in human resources for the BKD, LLP National Office; City Utilities of Springfield; Drury University; and served as Adjunct Faculty at Missouri State University. Nicole also serves a part-time instructor at Missouri State University’s Management Development Institute (MDI) where she provides instruction on high quality human resource management and leadership training programs. Nicole shares a busy life with her amazing husband, Wendell and wonderful son, Sayge, on a hobby farm near Springfield, MO.

PENNEY RECTORSpringfield Public [email protected]

Penney Rector serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Springfield Public Schools. Penney joined the SPS team on July 1, 2017. Prior to moving to SPS, Penney spent six years with the Jefferson City School District where she served as the Chief Human Resources Officer and In-House Legal Counsel. Penney has been serving in the public education arena since 2002 and was an attorney with the Office of the Missouri Attorney General between 1993-2002.

Nancy Riggs was named Regional Vice President of Penmac Staffing in 2000. She has a proven track record of success in human resources, sales, management, public relations, training and development, branding, and public speaking. Riggs joined Penmac in 1994 shortly after receiving her bachelor’s in Business Administration, and has worked throughout the organization in many roles, including recruiting, interviewing, and screening candidates, as well as creating custom-tailored human resource services to meet the needs of businesses.

Over the years, Riggs has established herself in the Human Resources field. She has extensive talent acquisition experience, from entry level to professional positions, and is dedicated to being a trusted adviser with area businesses by building and expanding professional partnerships. As Regional Vice President, Riggs develops and manages revenue and profitability goals and helps spread awareness of corporate direction, mission, and aims. Riggs has a passion for maintaining corporate image through networking and public relationships.

Riggs is focused on driving growth in the Springfield region through strategic planning, business development, and operations. She is committed to empowering team members through demonstrating effective leadership skills, providing training, and giving back to the community. Riggs is a graduate of Leadership Springfield, and in 2009, was named one of the Springfield Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award recipients.

RHONDA YOUNGBLOODHerschend Family [email protected]

Rhonda currently serves as the VP of Benefits & Compensation for Herschend Family Entertainment. She has been with Herschend for 24 years, serving in several finance/accounting roles (most recently Chief Accounting Officer) for the company before moving to this HR role earlier this year. Rhonda has a BS in Accounting from Missouri State University and her CPA, and prior to Herschend she worked for four years for BKD in their Springfield office.
