Sharing the Sweetness and Building Business Skills Girl Scouts in the Hays/Garden City areas geared up for the 2011 Girl Scout Cookie Sale by holding Cookie Kickoff’s on Jan. 21st. Cookie Sale began on Jan. 22nd and ran through March 13th. Due to this year’s cookie sale being a highly anticipated community event, Girl Scouts throughout the Hays/Garden City areas reached and exceeded many sales goals. This success will allow girls to attend camps and a variety of Girl Scout events during the upcoming year. Cookie Kickoff! Preserving America’s Past through Girl Scouts Liberal Girl Scout Troop number 60072 participated in the Junior American Citizens Committee 2010-2011 Contest sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The 2010-2011 theme was “Preserving America’s Past.” The troop entered in the Stamp Design category with two different grade levels. Ms. Bonnie Raff with the Cimarron River Valley Chapter presented the troop with medals. Thalia Brown won First place for 2nd grade level and Evelyn Gomez-Romero won First place for 1st grade level, in the local area. Evelyn Gomez-Romero won 1st grade at the State Level for 1st graders. Girls were apart of the mystery from the crime scene to the arrest to the trial. The event was filled with pieces of Law and Order, CSI and Blue Blood all in one overnight adventure! Older Girl Congress Winter Event – Case of the Fashion Era MurderOver 40 girls and adults attended the Older Girl Congress Winter Event – Case of the Fashion Era Murder held January 29-30 at Colby Community College. Want to volunteer but don’t have a lot of time?Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is looking for volunteers that are interested in giving of their time to work with the girl leaders of tomorrow. We are looking for people who would like to help but may only be able to give a limited amount of time. Check out the following opportunities, do any of these spark an interest?

Many opportunities for you:Gold and/or Silver Award Trainers, Gold Award Mentors, Program Aide Trainers, Event Planners, Event Helpers, Robotic Leaders, Out door Skills Trainers for girls and /or adults, Trip Interview Committee, Trip Directors, Camp Directors or Camp Helpers. These are just a few of the many ways that you, or someone you know, can help our girls when your time is limited. Training is provided. If you have any questions, contact Virginia at the Hays office 888-811-8832.

Outdoor Skills Volunteer Needs:We are looking for adults who enjoy the out of doors and are willing to help with outdoor girl programs. GSKH will host several events/camps/ trainings on the Council, Service Unit, and Troop level that need adult volunteers. Come share your outdoor experiences with Girl Scouts.
