ISO 14001 requires an organization to establish and maintain procedures to identify environmental aspects of its activities and to define its significant impacts. This course is designed to help delegates assess their own significant environmental aspects and impacts and introduce them to the requirements of the ISO Life Cycle Assessment standards, particularly ISO 14040 and ISO 14041. The aim of this course is to provide the participants an overview of environmental impact assessment methods and procedures. It covers the nature of environmental impact assessment; environmental impact assessment process including its history, implementation as well as the tasks, methods and techniques. The course will also cover the criteria for identification, screening and scoping of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); project and environmental descriptions; prediction of impacts; assessing the significance of impacts; preparation & review of environmental statements; consultation and public participation, mitigation and decision-making; monitoring and post-auditing; extension of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to non-project actions; identification of inputs and prediction of impacts; decision-making involving Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); reviewing an environmental statement; strategic environmental assessment; and future developments in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
