The award-winning Cwmcerrig Farmshop is the No 1 choice for the finest local produce in West Wales. We are the Watkins family (Roland, Reuben, Stuart, Tom and Davina) and we’ve been farming here since the 1950s. In 2008, we decided to make the big leap and open up a shop here at Cwmcerrig. We don’t like to do things by halves so we built a whopping 8000 sq ft facility with a restaurant, too! The shop opened in 2009 and we’ve not looked back. Since opening, we’ve won many awards, including several national farm shop of the year competitions. In the Taste of Wales awards, the shop won the’ local sourcing’ section and the firm’s sirloin steak took Gold in the beef section. Other recent prizes include two National Trust Fine Farm Produce Awards. We’re proud of the meat we produce here at Cwmcerrig and are delighted to now be selling it direct to our customers in our shop.
Opening Hours: Monday - Saturday: 8:30am - 5:00pm. Sunday & Bank Holidays: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Haverfordwest Town HistoryThe Welsh name for Haverfordwest, Hwlff ordd seems most likely to be a Welsh translation of Haverfordwest. Haverfordwest derives its name from the old English meaning ‘Ford used by cows/goats’. The ‘west’ part of Haverfordwest is thought to have been added at a later date.
Situated on the western Cleddau, Haverfordwest Castle was built in the twelfth century by a Flemish Lord. The castle was one of the most important castles in south Wales in the medieval period.
Haverfordwest Castle was known to be a strong stone castle as it withheld attacks from Llwelyn the Great, Owain Glyndwr and Oliver Cromwell.
After Llwelyn’s attack, the castle fell into the hands of King Edward 1st and his wife Queen Eleanor in 1289 who added to the castle, constructing walls in its interior.
In the seventeenth century, just at the beginning of the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell ordered for the castles destruction. The castle was left to decay and is now the location of Haverfordwest Town Museum.
The Riverside Quay played an important part in the towns trade, receiving goods from France and England.
The strong Flemmish community in Haverfordwest in the mid fourteenth century broadened the towns products and trades.
Haverfordwest thrived as a trading town as it was one of the few towns to have the right to hold frequent fairs and markets.
Today, Haverfordwest has kept much of its medieval charm and the Riverside Quay still holds weekly farmers markets selling local food produce and crafts.

What’s On
With Easter fast approaching, Haverfordwest is truly in the Easter Spirit with these up and coming events.

This is Easter, Haverfordwest’s Farmers Market will have available freshly plucked turkeys ready for Easter Sunday and extra Easter treats from the local businesses.
After the Good Friday Easter Farmers Market, why not head down to Picton Castle and join in with the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt Trail. Easter Nest CupcakesMaking cupcakes is simple. Making Easter themed cupcakes is even easier, and is fun for the kids!
Ingredients for the cupcakes:
220g butter or margarine, room temperature220g caster sugar2 large eggs, beaten220g self-raising fl our, sifted1 tsp of Vanilla Essence
Ingredients for the icing:
For the Butter Cream:80g unsalted butter, room temperature250g icing sugar25g low fat vanilla yogurtMini eggs to decorate
Method:
Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 5.
Line a cup cake or muffi n tray with paper cases.
Beat together the butter and caster sugar until light and fl uff y. Add the eggs a little at a time. Fold in the fl our and Vanilla Essence. Spoon the mixture into the paper cases until half full.
Bake in the oven until golden brown and springy to touch or test using a skewer, if it comes away clean the cakes are ready. Leave them to cool on a wire rack.
Meanwhile prepare the butter cream. Begin by beating the butter and icing sugar until pale and well mixed, ideally using an electric mixer. Add the yogurt and continue to beat on medium to high speed until the icing is fl uff y. The longer you beat the lighter the icing.
Spoon the icing into a piping bag fi tted with a star piping nozzle. In a circular motion, swirl the icing around each cake.
Decorate with mini eggs.

Gardening
Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about how you want your garden to bloom throughout the summer.
Planning what types of fl owers and plants you would like to have in your garden is a brilliant way to start.
If you’re struggling to think of what fl owers to choose, maybe decide on a colour scheme fi rst. This way you’ll be able to choose a variety of fl owers that compliment each other in colour.
When buying plants, take into consideration what type of atmosphere you want to create. If you want to go for a tropical theme, go for a selection of exotic palm trees or ferns.
For a more English country themed garden choose some roses and herbs to match.
Head down to your local garden centre and pick up some brand new gardening tools. A new set of gardening equipment not only help you with your gardening, but it will also inspire you to get those green fi ngers working.
Over the winter, it is easy to neglect your lawn and let it grow out. Springtime is a good time to begin mowing your lawn to restore its appearance. Applying a lawn fertiliser can help improve the overall condition of your lawn and also its lushness.
If you have a patio area, why not buy some new
garden furniture to update it a bit? Garden patio furniture comes in many shapes and sizes, ranging from the humble picnic table to the more luxurious lounging outdoor sofa set. Patio areas can be turned into warm and beautiful outdoor spaces with patio heaters and fi re pits. Patio heaters are easy to add to your patio and aff ordable, but fi re pits are more easy on the eye and make for a nice design feature.

Buying a car is an exciting prospect for many buyers, especially for fi rst time buyers. Here are a few helpful tips to consider when buying a car.
Draw up a shortlist of potential makes and models. This will help you determine what kind of car you are looking for. Make a note of whether you are looking for a small, medium or large car and whether there are any makes you are more interested in.
Visit your local car showrooms and garages to see what they have to off er. This can give you a good idea of prices. It also allows you to have a good look at the cars and decide whether you like the overall appearance of them.
Now for the fun part, take them out for a test drive. Ask to take them for a spin around the area to see how they are to drive. Take notice of what the gears feel like and how long they take to reach the speed limit. Ask yourself how it feels to drive them. Do you enjoy driving it, or do you fi nd it diffi cult to handle? What condition is the car interior? Asking yourself these questions is bound to determine which car is your favourite.
Once you’ve decided which car is your favourite, check the running costs.
How much is the insurance going to cost you? How much is the cars road tax? Taking into consideration the cars monthly costs will help you get a rounded idea of its overall cost. Take a look at fi nance options to gain that the dealer provides to see if they can off er you anything better. Usually dealer fi nance includes extras like free courtesy cars and free road tax for a year, so it’s well worth looking into.
Next, negotiate with your dealer. Show the dealer you are interested in the car. See how far they are willing to drop the initial price of the car and what extras they are willing to include.
When you have a good idea of what you are looking for and what car fi ts your needs and budget, buying the car will be the easiest bit.
