A city known for its passion, history, love of music and exotic repertoire of dance - no place captures the essence of Cuba better than its vibrant, buzzing capital. The city boasts some of the best ballet and dance schools/companies in the world, and has a theatre community, in the Caribbean, that is truly second to none. Historically, Cuba is embedded in a rich colonial past, with remnants evident in every corner of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage site with over 900 landmarks in the neighbourhood of Vieja Habana Spend your days roaming the hauntingly beautiful nostalgic streets of Old Havana (Havana Vieja) gazing at neo-classical architecture, exquisite statues and stunning old colonial buildings, before toasting the hospitality of this city’s incredibly vivacious people with a classic mojito at one of themany places once frequented by Ernest Hemingway. Insider tip: In the far western corner of the Malecon you’ll discover a different side of Havana, at the Jardines del 1830. Mostly heard of through word-of-mouth, the Jardines del 1830 is a beautiful Cuban oasis. It’s exterior - a garden overlooking the sea, inside it is an up-market restaurant serving cocktails and tasty cuisine. Its interior (almost entirely constructed from shells and coral) creates a warm, and characteristically Moorish environment. Sunsets are spectacular from this little Havana hideaway, and it’s a particularly popular spot among those ‘in-the-know’ on a Friday night. •The cabaret at the famous Tropicana Nightclub •Exploring castles, cathedrals, galleries & museums •Dancing salsa and drinking mojitos with the locals •Riding in a 1950’s American car in Vieja Habana •Strolling through Musee Nacional de Bellas Artes 5 Things You’ll Love Most words, layout & design by Jade Artry
