throughout the winter, a local association proposes the discovery of traditional bobsleigh techniques, Mondays and Wednesdays at 18:30 from the summit of the floodlit slope in val cenis Bramans. surrounded by two experienced bobsledders - one at the front to guide you, the other on the back to help you stop - discover bobsleigh sensations from the past. the adventure begins with a chairlift ride at nightfall to the Mont cenis arctic base camp where over 40 polar dogs spend the winter at 2000 metres altitude. Fabrice Personnaz is the last professional sculptor in Bessans. like his father before him, he continues to perpetrate the history of his village. carved in a piece of arolla pine, the satirical devil of Bessans is the emblem of the village since the 19th century. a tradition inherited from the provocation of a villager who in 1857, after quarrelling with the local priest, decided to sculpt a devil carrying the man of the church under his arm.visit the gallery located rue saint esprit. We met…Fred, guardian of the vallonbrun mountain refuge hutthe only shelter in the vanoise national Park to be guarded all winter, the vallonbrun refuge welcomes hikers for lunch or an overnight stay. a great Nordic adventure : la grande Odyssée savoie-Mont-Blanc
in 2005 henry kam stated, "it’s not easy in our regions to find itineraries adapted to long distance dog sledding”. yet, within a decade, the grande odysée has become an international dog sled race that covers the greatest difference in altitude in the world and one of the most popular winter events in the savoie region. 13 years on, the haute Maurienne vanoise remains the favourite stage of the event amongst mushers. a land of adventure, passion, nature and wide open spaces, to be discovered on 14th, 15th and 18th january. on the programme: a festive start in val cenis, a passage via the Polar dog base on Mont cenis at 2000m (for a unique veterinary control), racing through the pretty streets of Bonneval-sur-arc and a Mass start event in Bessans.
