At Hastings School we offer a range of optional after school
co-curricular activities and clubs, run by teachers and other
professionals from Monday to Friday. The co-curricular
programme forms an integral part of the curriculum
enrichment we offer to our students. The activities
offered vary from term to term. The purpose of
the extracurricular program is to provide
experience that enables the students
to progress toward established
educational objectives.
Participation in
extracurricular activities
means much more than
two teams trying to win a
contest. Extracurricular
activities give the students
tremendous opportunities
to develop as a “complete”
human being.
By the time a young participant graduates from Hastings School we want our students to be able:
To work cooperatively with others.
To learn from constructive criticism.
To have self confidence in stressful situations.
To discipline themselves.
To inspire others.
To teach certain skills to younger participants
To build teamwork experience, organization, and unity.
To appreciate the help that parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators have given them.
To represent Hastings School in a positive way.
To evaluate their abilities realistically.
To have a positive learning attitude toward all tasks.
To value hard work and what hard work accomplishes.
To seek help from others when a problem arises.
To develop lasting relationships with others.
To praise others who do a good job even though they may be opponents.
To be physically fit and healthy.
To respect the rules.
To feel good about themselves as a person.

YOGAYoga presented in a child’s language can help counter the stress experienced by little ones living in a hurry-up world. Yoga has become quite mainstream for adults in recent years, but have we ever considered sharing the practice with our children? Yoga can benefit kids significantly, and in some ways, possibly even more so than it nourishes adults.
Pilates can help establish correct principles of movement that children will use for their entire lives and has been proven to improve academic skills. Pilates works on eliminating muscle imbalances in the body, which will also create a balanced musculature that can alleviate pain and reduce the potential for injury and as they continue to grow into adulthood.

ARTS & CRAFTS There are many reasons that giving children a space to create artwork is extremely important. Supporting their explorations in art fosters creativity, which is not merely helpful in an extracurricular sense. With the fast pace of change in the technological and business worlds, creative people who can engage in abstract, flexible thinking will be more in demand than those who can merely memorize information.
Are you looking to become more involved in arts?

MODERN DANCEThe modern dance movement began in the early 1900s as a rebellion against the formality and structure of ballet. Dancers wanted to move freely and naturally through space, not just vertical high as was typical of ballet. They wanted to be free of toe shoes and grasp the floor with bare feet. They wanted to involve the whole body in their dance, using torso, shoulders, head, arms, hands, even fingers. They wanted to incorporate the facial expressions that accompany the feelings and emotions of dance. Most importantly, they wanted their dance to be not just an intellectual and physical endeavour, but a creative one as well!
GYMNASTICS
Main objectives: Motor development, physical skills, coordination, con-centration,flexibility,andafeelingofsecurity.
Rhythmic Gymnastics is a sport which can be practiced individually or as a group, and combines movements seen in ballet, gymnastics, and dance with use of other things such as balls, hoops, clubs, and ribbons. As a sport, it helps to improve coordination and concentration, as well as flexibility. It develops muscle strength, as well as a sense of harmony, beauty and safety. With this activity, pupils learn the main rules, movements, and techniques involved in the different elements of the sport.

MUSIC AND FUN!Music brings people together. Through music, children take an inner experience and move it into a shared creative experience. Group music-making releases energy which can be channeled in creative, productive directions. Children learn about themselves and others by playing music together and by listening to each other — tapping into hidden courage that can be played out by singing together or discovering the inner resources to listen quietly to another child’s playing.
Main objectives: Enjoyment and developing singing, dancing, and other artistic skills. Improving the motor system, as well as rhythmandhearing.Self-confidence.

Main objectives:
To exercise muscles, and improve speed, agility and coordination. Cognitive skills will also very much be implicated, such as concentration, attention and memory. As is the case with any sporting activity, it will improve self-esteem and will also emphasize to participants the value of companionship.
CHEERLEADER CLUBSchool Cheerleaders has been chosen as an extra-curricular activity for reasons which we will explain here. Although traditionally it has not had much recognition as a sport in its own right, and has only been seen as a form of entertainment during breaks in a sports match, it is now recognised as a sport which demands a great deal of skill: the use of both motor and cognitive skills, as well as the ability to work in a team and a high level of dedication. It is an activity in which all can now participate, no longer one that is only to be seen in films.
Objectives:• Adopt a correct body position.
• Know the sound possibilities of the instrument and its characteristics.
• Increase your culture about keyboard works and its different musical genres.
• Acting in public with self-control, performing a musical work without fear and with mastery of memory and communication skills.
• Develop the motor functions that intervene in the execution.
• Start understanding the musical language for its interpretation.
•Valuetheimportanceofaninterpretationofthequalitywork.
•Knowandbeabletointerpretanadequaterepertoireateach level.
The benefits to learn how to play the keyboard are very high but the most important ones are...
1# Improved Counting & Math Skills
2# Exercising New Language Skills
3# Improves Reading Comprehension
4# Encourages Creativity
5# Practice with Time Management & Organization
6# Requires Concentration, Discipline & Patience
7# Strengthens Hand Muscles & Hand-Eye
Coordination
8# Improves Rhythm & Coordination
9# Boosts Self-Esteem
10# Expands Cultural Knowledge
11# Reduces Stress & Anxiety
13# Changes Brain Structure and Mental Ability
KEYBOARDSParents who give their children the gift of a musical education start them out on a path that will enrich their lives in so many ways. Studying music develops discipline, hand-eye coordination, intelligence, and creates a skill that can bring happiness to both the performer and to all who listen.

The main purpose of the German extra-curricular activity is to introduce a new language and culture to the children. Through the German they will acquire an essential language within Europe, due to the high influence of Germany in its neighboring countries, and throughout the European Union. In the German club, a wide range of all sort of activities will be used, so the children get excited and want to learn more about the language, such as speaking or listening games, always focused so that the student perceives, listens and responds in a quit way.

A wide selection of games (both indoor and outdoor), songs, role-play and drama are used to promote the development of good pronunciation and to learn a wide range of vocabulary and phrases.
