STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT I would like to congratulate Amelia in S5H for her recent success at Scouts. Amelia has earned the ‘Grey Wolf’ award. This is an award that only a small percentage reach in Scouts and takes many months to achieve. She has had to complete tasks over a period of time and display self-discipline, leadership and teamwork. Well done Amelia, you should be very proud of your fantastic achievement. UNIFORM Please can you take the time to label all uniform. We regularly sort and return as much lost property as possible during the school year. It is always disappointing to see the huge amount of unclaimed uniform that is in excellent condition in lost property. The boxes are located in the main building, just inside the double doors leading to the stairs and the Year 3 learning community. REMINDERS: CURRICULUM DAY: please remember that we

have a Curriculum Day this Friday 9th March. No students are required to be at school. Thank you for your help with this matter.

HARTWELL DAD’s GROUP: Tuesday 13th March at 7.30pm will be the first meeting of our dad’s group. Please RSVP [email protected] or Andrew Kegele 0417 391 628.

WORKING BEE: Please note Saturday 17th March between 2 and 4pm. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible to assist in the grounds.

PE UPDATE Weetbix Tryathlon The big weekend is finally here and we have 82 very excited TRYathletes ready to swim, ride and run their way around the Bay and Catani Gardens in St. Kilda this Sunday morning! We had a fantastic training session last Sunday afternoon at St. Kilda, with at least fifty kids tearing around the course. An enormous thank you to the many parents who assisted with this session. We had parents in the water, on bikes and running with the students. I think the parents were more exhausted than the TRYathletes! Your support and assistance is very, very much appreciated. The Hartwell students had a great time. Below are the times I have taken from the website for the event this Sunday, however I do encourage you to double check the site later in the week to ensure no last minute changes. I will be arriving at 7am and you will see the Hartwell banner close to the finish line. You may like to bring a rug or some chairs of your own. Word of the Week

Miss Gardiner and I continue to be amazed by the way all students are having a go at using the new vocabulary presented

to them each week. Students are obviously retaining the meaning of previous words as these continue to pop up in many

pieces of writing, as was the case with this week’s winner Anushka Mohanty from 1R. While we were only looking for the

word idyllic, Anushka managed to use some of our previous words of the week in her descriptive sentence:

A copious number of trees on the askew mountains beside the beach made the landscape extremely idyllic and exquisite.

This week’s word is PUNGENT.

Pungent means something with an extremely strong smell or taste.

Here are some examples that were used at assembly.

A pungent smell wafted out of the rubbish bin. Mrs Ross-Williams had to hold her nose!

The pungent lemon made the baby’s mouth tingle because it was incredibly sour!

As it stands, Merton is in the lead with 100 points, Milverton is on 50 and Highfield is also on 50. There are only 2 weeks

left, which house will win Word of the Week?
