Gibson Mill is located in the middle of Hardcastle Crags’ beautiful woodland. By holding your wedding here, you are supporting the National Trust and helping to look after the site for future generations.
The weddings at Hardcastle are tailored to your own imagination. Utilise the mill’s middle and top floor and scenic surroundings to create the wedding of your dreams.
Due to the nature of the site our availability is seasonal. Ceremonies are held on the old weaving floor which comfortably seats up to 80 people. The industrial min-imalism of this space makes a stunning blank canvas for your chosen wedding theme. While guests enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Hardcastle Crags the ceremony hall is transformed into your reception or evening venue. In the past, just as the cotton mill became the Entertainment Emporium, the Weavers’ Floor now becomes the dancefloor and the bar is open for the celebrations to begin.
Many couples return to Hardcastle Crags for their wedding having fallen in love with the beautiful woodland setting on a previous visit. Unlike many venues, Hardcastle Crags offers a very unique location that cocoons you from the outside world

Our choice of wedding packages means you can make your wedding truly your own, whether you want a simple ceremony or a special full day of celebration. The Stepping Stones Package gives you a ceremony only option whilst The Weavers Package means you can continue the celebrations with a wedding reception. The Emporium Package gives you the full day-to-night wedding.

The Stepping Stones PackageThis is the perfect package for couples wanting a simple ceremony wedding or
the flexibility to hold wedding celebrations at another venue.
The Stepping Stones package gives you:
• Hire of the Weavers’ Floor ceremony hall with ceremony chairs andregistrars table
• Glass of Prosecco per guest
• Experienced venue staff to help set up and clear away on the day and after the event
• Access to the venue from 9.30am to 4pm on the day of the wedding
• Bottle and cash bar with staff
• Clearing and tidying of the mill before and after the wedding
• Experienced wedding coordinator throughout the planning stage and on the day

The Weavers PackageContinue the wedding celebrations with an intimate ceremony followed by an informal and relaxed reception. After your ceremony, whilst you enjoy your drinks reception, the team at Gibson Mill will transform the Weavers’ Floor ready to receive the wedding party.
We generate all our own hydroelectric and solar panel electricity so we do have some catering restrictions. All our catering teams are equipped to answer any questions you may have and create your perfect wedding breakfast.
The Weavers package gives you: -

The Emporium PackageIn its heyday the Entertainment Emporium was a place that people came to relax, spend time together and generally enjoy themselves! We continue this tradition by offering day-to-night weddings. Centred on the Weavers’ Floor the venue transforms from ceremony hall to reception to dance hall. The second floor of the mill becomes your quiet space where guests can rest their feet, catch their breath or chat with a drink (or two).
As Hardcastle Crags has limited electricity, The Emporium Package includes a generator to provide electricity on all three floors of the mill so that you can get creative with your wedding planning. This also allows you to have more extensive catering options.
The Emporium package gives you: -

• Glass of Prosecco after the ceremony
• Experienced venue staff to help set up and clear away on the day and after the event

Ceremony OptionsInside the millThe middle floor of the mill is legally licensed for your wedding ceremony. Theroom seats up to 85 people and can be set up to your own specifications. As the mill is a blank canvas it allows you to organise your own music and the methods of playing it for the ceremony. The ceremony times can run anytime between 11am and 3pm and is organised through Calderdale Registrars.
Outside WoodlandCalderdale Registrars have put together a ceremony option where you can hold your ceremony outside – if you’d prefer this option please contact them for more information. Hardcastle has a vast amount of outdoor space, talk to the staff to discuss options for outdoor locations.

Finishing TouchesYou don’t need a lot to make Gibson Mill look beautiful, if you would like to add something a little extra please see some tips below. All suppliers are optional and it is only our catering teams that are contracted. We ask that all suppliers have public liability insurance and PAT tested certificates. Ask our staff for recommendations.
Music Due to the nature of the property the mill does not come with a built in PA system, however the acoustics throughout the mill are amazing. It’s worth having a think about what sort of atmosphere you would like to create. We also can recommend places that offer PA systems and dancefloors.
TravelWhilst some couples use the walk down from the mill as a photo opportunity and part of their wedding celebrations, others like to organise a minibus to get everyone to and from the venue.
LightingThe light in the mill during the day is lovely; however atmospheric lighting can create a really romantic feel to your evening celebrations.
Toilet hire The toilets are the main toilets just over the bridge; we also have one disabled toilet/baby change in the courtyard. We do offer the possibility of hiring toilets on site so they are a little closer to the venue. We have contacts for portaloo suppliers and more upscale toilet hire.

FAQsWhat are the car parking facilities like at Hardcastle Crags? We offer five car parking spaces at Midgehole or Clough Hole car park. We can also offer the option of reserving the bottom car park at Midgehole which holds 25 cars for a fee. Car parking at the mill is limited to five cars. Many couples choose to hire a mini bus to ferry people to the mill. Often our couples use their hotel car park or a spot in Hebden Bridge as a pickup point.
What does ‘off the grid’ mean and how does it affect our wedding? ‘Off the grid’ simply means that we generate all of our own electricity. This means that if the weather hasn’t been on top form then there may not be any electricity on site. For this reason, we don’t offer electricity as part of our daytime packages. All electrical equipment must be battery-generated or have a battery backup. The Emporium Package includes a generator so that you can have power on all three floors.
Is Hardcastle Crags open to the public? Hardcastle Crag’s Weaving Shed Café is open every day from 9am-4pm. The site is a lovely walking spot that many people come to visit to enjoy the surroundings. We offer exclusive use of all three floors of the mill for your wedding celebrations and the site quietens down when the café closes.
What comes included on the bottle bar provided and can we pay corkage? The bottle bar for our daytime packages are run by the Gibson Mill staff, we provide a variety of different beers, cider and Prosecco. For The Emporium Package the bar is provided by an external bar team. Hardcastle Crags does offer a corkage option for wine on the tables and toast drinks. All drinks reception options are organised through the bar team.
What’s the best season to get married? As Gibson Mill isn’t heated we offer wedding packages during the spring/summer months. If you want to use the site during the autumn months, the shades of bronze make a great background for an engagement shoot.

Finding UsBy RoadFind Midgehole car park at the end of Midgehole Road, one-and-a-half miles north-east of Hebden Bridge, off the A6033 Keighley Road.
Parking: The nearest car park is one mile away (pay and display but free for National Trust members). Only disabled badge holders are allowed access to the mill (book space). There are also 25 spaces at Clough Hole car park, Widdop Road.
Sat nav: use HX7 7AA for Midgehole car park, HX7 7AZ for Clough Hole car park and look out for National Trust signs.
On footAccess on foot via Riverside Walk from Hebden Bridge. Pennine Way and Bridleway both pass close to the property.
