Surrogate’s Court Petition by Rosa Gumpertz City & County of New York, ss.

Rosa Gumpertz being duly sworn, deposes and says; I am a daughter

to the annexed petitioner. I with my other two sisters have resided with

my mother as far back as I can recollect at number 97 Orchard Street, in

the city, county & state of New York. I have an indistinct recollection of

my father’s residing with us at the above address. I know the fact to be,

that for the past six years, that being the date as far as back as I can

testify of my own personal knowledge, my father Julius Gumpertz did not

reside with us, and I remember well, that I was informed by all of the

neighbors that in the year 1874 my father left his home and mysteriously

disappeared and was considered dead. My mother is our only support

and resides with us. She did not remarry.

Sworn to before me, Rosa Gumpertz June 14th, 1883.

Surrogate’s Court Petition by Lucas Glockner City & County of New York, ss. Lucas Glockner being duly sworn, deposes and says; I am the owner

of real estate in the city of New York, among which is the house and lot of

number 97 Orchard Street, in the city of New York. I now reside at

number 152 Henry Street, in the city of New York. About thirteen years

ago, I rented certain apartments in my house 97 Orchard Street to Julius

Gumpertz and his wife Natalie Gumpertz & their children. I then became

acquainted with the Gumpertz family. I well remember the

disappearance of Julius Gumpertz, the husband of the annexed

petitioner. It was in the month of October in the year 1874, and I

remember the fruitless search made for him. I frequently visit the

premises 97 Orchard Street, this city, and have visited the same very

often since 1874, but at no time have I ever seen or heard of or from

Julius Gumpertz aforesaid. Mrs. Natalie Gumpertz has continuously

resided in my house for the past thirteen years. Mrs. Gumpertz is her sole

support.

Sworn to before me, Lucas Glockner, June 14th, 1883.

Surrogate’s Court Petition by Schneider City & County of New York, ss.

Schneider being duly sworn, deposes and says; I reside in premises

number 97 Orchard Street, in the city of New York, and have resided

there for more than ten years last past. I am acquainted with Natalie

Gumpertz, the petition herein, and have been acquainted with her for

more than ten years last past. I knew her husband Julius Gumpertz who

resided with her at the above address with his family. I well remember

the sudden, mysterious and unexpected disappearance of Julius

Gumpertz aforesaid, in the month of March in the year 1874 and the

diligent and unsuccessful search made for him. I have never seen or

heard from or of said Julius Gumpertz and I verily believe that no

members of his family know of his whereabouts.

Sworn to before me, Schneider June 14th, 1883.
