About the Time Shift BufferOnce you turn on the recorder, the selected TV programme will be stored in a temporary hard disk storage called Time Shift Buffer. Time Shift Buffer can store up to 6 hours of programmes temporarily.Press DISPLAY to display the Time Shift Buffer information.
Watch TV – Pause live TVYour Philips Recorder allows you to control the TV programme. You can PAUSE it as if you were in control of the broadcast.A When watching TV programme through this unit’s
tuner, press F (PAUSE).B Press P (PLAY) again to resume the TV
programme you were watching from where you have paused.
C To return to live broadcast, press LIVE TV.
Record to Hard Disk or DVDIf you are recording to the Hard Disk, press HDD first.If you are recording to a disc, press DVD first, then insert a recordable disc.A Select a recording mode using REC MODE.B Press SOURCE to select digital, analogue or
external input mode, then select the desired channel to record using PROGRAM + / – or Alphanumeric keypad.
C Press I (RECORD) to start recording.D Press C (STOP) to stop the recording.
Using the EPG (On-screen TV guide)Make sure the digital TV tuning (installation) is completed.A In stop mode, press GUIDE.
It shows the list of TV programmes that are currently broadcast and the next 7 days of TV programmes.
B Select the TV programme using U \D \ L \ P, To watch - press GUIDE to exit.To set the timer recording - press OK or BLUE to go to “Timer Programming” menu.

Start PlaybackIf you are playing back the titles in Hard Disk, press HDD first.If you are playing back the titles in DVD, press DVD first, then insert a disc.A For Hard Disk, press TITLE to call up the title list.
For DVD, the title list will automatically appear when you insert a disc. Otherwise, press TITLE or DISC MENU.
B Use U \D \ L \ P to select a desired title, then press P (PLAY).
C Press C (STOP) to stop playback.
Note- The Time Shift Buffer will be cleared when you access the functions listed below (and a warning message will appear when you press HOME, TITLE or DISC MENU): Turn off the power / Start recording / Edit titles or enter editing menu / Start dubbing / Access Digital Video input (AV4) / Using any functions in “Disc Editing” or “HDD Settings” / Perform actions under “Channel” setting (e.g. tuning, sort channels) - In Time Shift Buffer, when you display the digital programme information, the on-screen display will be recorded as the part of the picture.
Note To set the recording time length, press I (RECORD) repeatedly to extend the recording time in 30-minute increments, up to 6 hours.

Basic ConnectionA Before ConnectingA Unplug your TV and this unit.B Select the most suitable connection based on the
type of device you have and your home set up.For basic connection of recorder to TV, steps B & C are sufficient. You can also refer to the accompanying User Manual for other possible connections.
B Connecting to a TVwith antenna only
A Connect the antenna or cable to the ANTENNA IN jack of this unit.
B Connect the TV-OUT jack of this unit to the Aerial jack of your TV. Use the supplied RF cable.
C Connecting Recorder and TVusing the Scart socket
Connect AV1 (TO TV) Scart socket of this unit to the Scart socket of your TV. Use the supplied Scart cable.
D Connecting Recorder and TVusing the component video and audio jacks
A Connect the component video cables (red/ blue/green - not supplied) from the COMPONENT VIDEO OUTPUT jacks of this unit to the corresponding component video input jacks (usually labelled as Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr or YUV) on your TV.
B Connect the audio cable (red/white - not supplied) from the AUDIO OUT (ANALOG L\R) jacks of this unit to the audio input jacks on your TV.
E Connecting Recorder and TVusing the HDMI jack
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a digital interface that allows pure digital video transmission without the loss of image quality.
Use the HDMI cable (not supplied) for connection. Connect the HDMI OUT jack of this unit to the HDMI input jack of TV.

F Connecting Recorder and External Equipmentusing the Scart socket
Be sure that all the units are off before making connections.
Use the Scart cable (not supplied) to connect AV2 (AUX) Scart socket of this unit to the Scart socket of the external equipment.
G Connecting Recorder and External Equipmentusing the digital audio jack
Use the coaxial cable (not supplied) to connect the AUDIO OUT (DIGITAL COAXIAL) jack to your digital audio equipment.
For more advanced connections, refer to the User Manual.
A Finding the Viewing ChannelA Press Q (STANDBY-ON) to turn on the unit.B Turn on your TV.
• You should see “Initial Setup” menu.C In case you don’t see the recorder’s setting menu,
press the Channel Down button on the TVs remote control repeatedly (or AV SELECT button, etc) until you see the menu. This is the correct viewing channel for this unit.
B Start Initial InstallationA Select the desired channel installation using
U \D. Then press OK.
B After the channel search is finished, “Clock Setting” will appear. Current time & date will be automatically updated. In case current time & date are not updated, you may set them manually. Once time and date setting is done, proceed to press BACKU to exit initial setup.
During “Initial Setup”, BACKU will stop the whole setup. If this occurs, proceed to “HOME” menu to complete setup.
Your Philips recorder is now ready for use!
Note If the external equipment (e.g. cable box, Canal+ decoder) is connected to AV2, the picture of the external equipment will be output except during the DVD playback of this unit. Turn off the external equipment or press DISPLAY to output the picture from this unit.
Note If the audio format of the digital output does not match the capabilities of your receiver, the receiver will produce a strong, distorted sound or no sound at all.

Note Leave the unit in standby for 1 minute after completing the initial installation and do not unplug the mains power of the unit. The unit needs this 1 minute to store all the channels. After 1 minute, you can remove the mains power if you need to.
