Readers’ Theater

We will be reading about how town leaders worked together to plan a new park.

It is written as if students are interviewing town leaders.

Reading: Look at the words on page 304. Let’s review or fluency tips from this unit.

As I read “Town Hall” aloud, I will use my voice to express what the characters are feeling. If a character is enthusiastic or puzzled, I will try to show that with my voice. I may slow down if a character is trying to explain a new idea.

As I read aloud, follow along and read in your mind so that everyone is reading!

Review – Present-tense action verbs.

Present-tense Action Verbs

Add the ending –s to most present-tense action verbs when the sentence tells about ONE.

Add the ending –es when a present-tense action verb ends in s, x, sh, ch, or tch and the sentence tells about ONE.

Do NOT add –s or –es to a verb when the sentence is about I, you, or MORE THAN ONE.

To combine two sentences using the same present-tense action verb, use and to combine the naming parts. Add no ending to the verb.

Which one is correct?

Mark and Miguel pulls the wagon. Ellen pushes the stroller.

I like to watch movies. She like to watch television.

Pam and Leslie cheers for the team. Alley, Carter, and Dane cheer for them.
