Happy New Year! Happy New Year! We hope that 2014 brings you many blessings for you and your family. The SON Foundation’s New Year started with lots of celebration. We received notice at the end of 2013 that we were officially a tax-exempt charity. This means that ALL donations received are officially tax deductible and we are considered a 501(c)(3) organization. When we applied for this status back in August 2013, we were told it could take anywhere from 6-8 months to be approved. God provided by allowing to be amongst the small percentage of applicants that are approved in a relatively short amount of time (4 months) and on the first try. Special thanks go to Kye Steffey of Hill Fulwider, P.C. for assisting us through this process. We are praising God for this gift! We are continuing to renovate the SON Foundation House. In December, we had several volunteers come in to help paint the ceilings, trim, and doors. Our volunteers this month will focus on painting the walls and getting some minor drywall work completed. In order to open our doors, we need to replace all of the floors, replace the countertop, and acquire a leather couch. Once the funds are raised and we can complete these projects, we will open our doors to guests. We cannot wait to begin Serving Others Needs! Thank you for your continual prayers and support! After our last issue, several people

expressed a desire to learn more about who

is serving the SON Foundation as a

member of the Board of Directors. Each month

we will feature a couple of our board members so that you can get to know us a little better.

Amy LaGrange brings her desire to serve others and her gift of humor to the Board of Directors. Amy has a strong faith and a willingness to share that faith with those around her. She is a very vibrant part of our group and serves on the Fundraising and Special Events Committee. Amy also helps with keeping our social media current.

Amy is a Care Manager for CICOA. She uses her God-given talent of compassion daily as she services older adults and those with disabilities to make sure they get the services they need. Amy grew up in Greenwood, IN, but now lives in Indianapolis. The love of Amy’s life is her dog, Hazel, whom she absolutely adores. Amy is “excited for the opportunity to serve and hopes that the families that stay at the house are blessed and comforted by our mission.”

Amy LaGrange

Matt & Kim Good have hearts for Jesus and bring many talents to the SON Foundation Board of Directors. Their desires for service and dedication to others are just a few of the gifts that God has given them.

Kim is a dental assistant for Dr. Matthew Wittrig. Matt is a freshman math teacher at Franklin Central High School Freshman Academy. The Goods live in Greenwood, IN with their 4-year-old twin daughters, Hailey and Aubrey. Their family attends LifePoint Church in Indianapolis. Kim is the Vice-President of the board and “jumps in” wherever she is needed. Matt is a valuable board member who brings his gift of compassion everywhere he goes. “We are beyond honored to be a part of this amazing foundation. We can’t wait to start serving the patients and families in need. Hopefully we can not only help their financial burdens that cancer provides, but also heal their spirits with God’s great love. Without Him, none of this is possible.” – Matt & Kim Good

Tip #3: Walk the Perimeter!

Some Grocery Shopping Tips… Here are a couple of tips to use when doing your grocery shopping (excerpted from bestselling author, Michael Pollan).

• First, shop mostly the perimeter of the store. That is where you will find more real foods like fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy; the aisles contain mostly processed foods of which we should be consuming little to none.

• Second, try to eat whole grains rather than white. To quote Pollan, "The whiter the bread, the sooner you'll be dead." Keep whole grains in mind when purchasing bread, rice, pasta, etc.

"Do  you  not  know  that  you  are  God's  temple  and  that  God's  Spirit  dwells  in  you?  If  anyone  destroys  God's  temple,  God  will  destroy  him.  For  God's  temple  is  holy,  and  you  are  that  temple."  -‐1  Corinthians  3:16-‐17

Each newsletter, we will feature a healthy tip that Bobby & Tiffany Thompson have learned throughout their journey towards better health. If you ever have questions or want more information about our tips, please email us at [email protected].

Satisfied “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”

-John Piper

As Christians, we live and act in ways that we hope will bring glory to God. We desire to see His name worshipped and made famous. We serve at church, we are hospitable, and we think of others more highly than ourselves. Pastor, speaker, and author John Piper suggests that God receives the highest form of glory not when we serve, but when our hearts are deeply satisfied in Him. When the deepest part of our being knows and believes that He is EVERYTHING—that is when we experience the deepest joy!

We were created to worship. For all humans, the question is not do you worship, but rather who or what do you worship? Maybe you worship money or success. Maybe you worship a sport or career. Maybe you worship something holier, like family or ministry. Regardless, if we are not placing our worship in God, our hearts will be left wanting. God designed you to find the richest fulfillment in Him. The deepest happiness we will ever experience rests in an intimate relationship with Him. Not in blessings that come from Him, but simply in Him. He is for your joy! He longs for you to experience this rich blessing. But we must be diligent not to place our satisfaction in anything else but Him.

Psalm 119 says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” The Psalmist feasted on the Word of God. Can the same be said of you? Does your heart and mind declare that Christ is ultimate in your life? If not, ask Him. Plead with Him; beg Him to become your everything. Pray diligently that you would be deeply satisfied in Him.

To bring glory to God, you don’t have to be a world-famous pastor or commit years of your life as a missionary. God is glorified when in the quietness of your heart, you find deep satisfaction in Him.
