Today our Gurrahman group had a visit from the AMS dental team. We learnt all about what foods make our teeth happy as well as what happens when our teeth don’t get brushed twice a day. Excursion Term 2

In Term 2 we will be travelling to South Lismore Primary School Preschool. We will be participating in a show by the Fauna Fetchers about reptiles and dingos. Dates and cost to be confirmed shortly.

Our ProgramJust a reminder that families can access the program and comment through Kinderloop. You can also view the program each morning on the whiteboard in the classroom.

Dental Assessment Consent Forms BNMAC Richmond Valley. Tuesday 14 May 2019 the Aboriginal Medical Service will be visiting the preschool to conduct Dental checks. We encourage you to return the permission as soon as possible. This is a free service for all preschool children and a great opportunity to have an assessment completed on your child’s dental health. Please do not hesitate to speak with staff if you would like further information.

Fact Sheet

Water is the best drink for anyone who is thirsty. Water is a good choice as it does not have any added sugar.

In Australia, water is safe to drink straight from the tap or boiled if you prefer. In most areas, tap water contains fluoride, which helps children to develop strong teeth.

Limit fruit juice, soft drinks, sports drinks and cordial

Fruit juices, soft drink, sports drinks and cordials should not be given to your child everyday as they contain a lot of added sugar. If you do give your child juice, soft drink, sports drinks or cordials remember to:

• water these down until very dilute. You canthen replace them completely with water

• serve in smaller cups

• limit the number of cups of all sweetdrinks your child has each day

The facts about fruit juice

• Fruit juice is high in natural sugar and cancontain added sugar too.

• Eating a piece of fruit is much better thanhaving a glass of juice.

• Children do not need any fruit juice at all.

• ½ cup of fruit juice each day is enough foryour child, if you choose to provide it.

Milk is another healthy option

• Milk helps your child develop strong teethand bones.

• Children over 2 years of age can drinkreduced fat (not skim) milk.

• Reduced fat milk has less fat than full creammilk but still has all the nutrients that youngchildren need.

• Soy milk is suitable if needed. Choose onethat is high in added calcium.

Tips to help your child to drink more water

• Take a refillable bottle of water whenyou go out.

• Put a bottle of water in with your child’slunch.

• Keep cold water in the fridge at home.

• Give your child a water bottle when theyplay sport.

• Serve water for everyone with thefamily meal.

• Show your child that you enjoy drinkingwater.
