Wheelock Family Theatre: Cori Couture As Wheelock Family Theatre’s education support specialist, Cori works with parents, teachers, and students, to make sure each child has the best possible experience in the theatre’s classes. During WFT’s school-‐vacation-‐week and summer programs, she provides individualized attention to all students, especially those on the autism spectrum. She also creates “Social Stories” for each of the theatre’s stage productions. These guides are designed to help audience members on the autism spectrum, and their families prepare for coming to the theatre, and for what to expect from each individual show.
Reach 4 Real Adaptive Music Program: Kelly Surette
Kelly Surette is the Program Director and creator of Reach 4 Real Adaptive Music Programs. She attended The Boston Conservatory as a Musical Theater major, has a Bachelor of Arts from Merrimack College in Theater, and holds a Masters in Science from Northeastern University in Music Industry Leadership where she created Reach 4 Real as her thesis. Kelly's passion for bringing the expressive arts to those with needs drives her to dream big and imagine a world where every student has access to a
quality music education.
To top off her access-‐and-‐inclusion-‐related duties at WFT, Cori writes and performs audio description, to make Wheelock shows accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. This task involves writing a carefully crafted, separate script, which explains all the visual elements of the show, without interrupting the dialog and/or music.
With degrees from Northwestern and Lesley Universities, Cori created a one-‐woman show about how the arts helped her thrive when she was growing up with spina bifida. She was on the board of the Spina Bifida Association of MA for 6 years and spent 6 years at the Dana-‐Farber Cancer Institute, writing and editing health communication materials for a wide variety of audiences.
