Dear Church Family,

Let’s face it. “Things are increasingly different than they used to be”. Anybody who reads that state-ment would not hesitate to agree and that explains why it is so difficult to relate to this changing world and the people in it. But there is good news! There is a generation of young people who can relate bet-ter than we can and that takes a lot of worry and concern off us. That does not mean that we hit the sidelines and watch this younger generations carry out ministry while we feel disconnected or unable to connect and help the cause of Christ. That is one of the reasons why I am sharing with you each month, some of my findings, in how we can reach this new culture of young people. This month let me share with you some examples of young people who can relate to circumstances better than us.

A Musician once said she had been pressured by people in her church not to license her music to a secular television show because “the message would get lost”. She said, “that just seems back-wards. I mean, isn’t the message more likely to get ‘found’ if people actually have a chance to hear it?”

David Kinnaman (author) said, “one of the common denominators among the young musicians that he has met, is that they want their art to speak for it-self, without having to call themselves a ‘Christian band’ or a ‘Christian musician’. Now that is much different than the way things used to be. Older Christians felt obligated to state the obvious to eve-rybody they met. This new generation does not feel obligated in the same ways. Young people are not as worried with attending Public Universities that challenge their faith. Military chaplains have an in-credible privilege of being a spiritual guide to men and women and “requires cooperation without compromise, which is different than most ministry settings”. They are required to lead worship for var-ious religious traditions (Catholic, Protestant, Jew-ish, Buddhist and Muslim) while not compromising their own faith convictions. They have to regularly navigate cultural and hierarchical tensions in ways that are off the map for most religious workers. More to come… God Bless you, Bro. Brandon

Dear church family: I probably say this every year, but it seems like the summers just fly by. I bet the children would say “amen” to that. Everything seems to fly by anymore. I guess its part of growing old. I’ve al-ways heard that the older you get the faster time flies. I’m inclined to believe that, although it may be that as we get older, we are more aware of how fast life goes by. The truth is we only get so many years in this life; even those who live to be a hundred would say it flew by. The question is; how are we using the time that we have? If it re-ally is flying by then shouldn’t we make the most of whatever time we have? How much time do we waste chasing after things that have no real value to them and then when we get them, we wonder why we wanted it so bad. How much time do we waste doing nothing at all, just watching the second hand on the clock go click, click, click? We need to be committed to make the most of each day; live it to the fullest whether you are at work, school or home. Make your life count one day at time and you will find that life can be very fulfilling as it impacts those around us. Paul encourages us in this, Eph. 5:15-16 ‘See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil.’ Make the most of your time by spending it with family, friends, bothers and sisters in Christ, people that we value but also by giving it to the Lord by asking Him, “what do I do for You to-day” and then listen to what He has to say. It’s hard to believe that you’ve had to put up with me for 20 years as your pastor. Who would have thought that an interim position would turn into this? Only God can make things like that work and I’m so thankful He did. Thank you for put-ting up with me that long. Only God knows how much longer it will last, but for me and my fami-ly, it’s bee a good thing. Thank you. Gods Blessings to you all. Bro. David
