Any visitor to Hans Boodt Mannequins’ showroom will agree this is what’s called eyecandy, a boost of creativity and ideas. Starting at the entrance and building up towards their 1000 m2 large showroom. All other spaces are also used for displaying their mannequins which in total sums up to 1860 m2, divided over 3 floors of Visual Merchandising at its finest.

Even the workspace offices are of immacu-late style in presentation and atmosphere. Despite the fact that the spaces are huge, the use of bare natural sources; steel, wood & brick gives the complete showroom a warm and comfortable feeling. The excellent lighting also plays an important part in this. Styling & restyling takes place approximately 2x per year, but because of its multiple dimensions it looks like there is change almost every day.It’s possible for brands & retailers to use this showroom for VM-meetings. Presentations can be displayed on the large screen- display, which can be docked onto any laptop.

Huge chandeliers, a piece of pavement as a prop and fireplace makes this showroom one of the most beautiful showrooms of Visual Merchandising in Europe and maybe even the World.Change is gonna come.

and futuristic but also charming and luring which makes her akward posing perfect for high-end fashion. She has a touch of the 1960’s when Diana Vreeland ruled the world, but at the same time she holds the 2030’s close at hand. A time-less form drifting back and forth between vogue and visionary.

“Well, it’s sort of a mixed

feeling really. It’s obviously

very exciting but it’s also

terrifying at the same time.

We stimulate freedom of ex-

pression but we’re also aware

of the fact that we’re sort of

creating a new scene. There’s

a danger in that, because it’s

been proven that people usual-

ly just want to fit in some-

where. On the other hand, we

represent a group of people

that hasn’t found an outlet

to relate to or identify with

so from that point of view

we’re sort of a safety net for

certain people. And of course,

that’s a good thing!”

very different from our pre-

vious one, so we have no idea

what the effect will be on our

fans. The thing about suc-

cess is there’s always a por-

We do our own thing and send

out the message we believe

in. If people don’t like it,

CREATING CHARACTERS.

Creating characters is what we do best. After weeks and sometimes months of preparation, market research, the resources of our imagination and careful focusing in on the end result, Hans Boodt captures this creation process into words, images, mood boards and technical specifications to form a briefing for Hans Boodt Studios.

For every new mannequin that is developed our design team first makes a clay model. This hands-on, clay modelling process becomes a 3D sketchpad, of sorts, and can be adapted modified or completely transfigured.

Only after testing and proving even the last minute details, will the clay model be used to create the mold from which the mannequin will be born.

Mannequins come to life at Hans Boodt Mannequins. We understand the fashion industry and constant needs for progression and orginality.

The company always uses a human model for the development of a mannequin. A ‘made-up’ mannequin can never look the way it shoud be or as intended.

In a mannequin, all the personality that is commonly expressed through gesture must be somewhat obdurate form. One the other hand, the abstract models must communicate without those familiar visual expressions; gone are the eyes and other facial features. Instead, the mannequins are embodied with finely im-agined and carefully manufactured gestures, poses and attitude; the width of a shoulder or an in-turned toe.

Once the full form has been moulded, finishing touches are applied. This calls our brand’s specialists into service to determine the ideal aesthetic for make-up and skin, high gloss, matt, sanded, ribbed, aluminum-look, covered with paper or the appearance of wood, almost anything is possible. Make up samples are then sent to the factory, where they are applied to the mannequins’ faces. It is this high quality of detail, design, craft and finishing that will ultimately bring the models to life with warmth and allure.

Hans Boodt: First of all , thank you for this interview! I know your schedules are very tight and your spare time very l imited.

Casual Female: Of course!!! Any time for you, I am a very big fan of all your work. This is a really exciting opportunity.Casual Male: Oh, absolutely. We are happy to be here!

Hans Boodt: Thanks. So, it seems like it has been a great beginning of the year for both you. How has 2014 been so far?

Casual Male: Yes, it really has. 2014 has been very hectic so far. We both have been booked for many runway shows and fashion shoots and it seems that it will be a very busy and productive year to come. But don’t get me wrong, I really love being this busy.

Hans Boodt: Well, your professional l ives are no secret! But what about your free time, don’t you like to take it easy?

Casual Male: I think it is very important to keep a balance. Too much of anything is not healthy and in order to continue doing what we love, we have to find stability. We make sure we find time to relax and do what we love.

Hans Boodt: Like what?

Casual Male: Sometimes just taking the bicycle around Amsterdam or having a picnic at the park. Anything that feeds the Soul as they say.Casual Female: Having a glass of wine at the Westerpark or just soaking up the sun is really a highlight. I also definitely like the Amsterdam culture of the museas. There is always something new to see and there are so many of them. And of course a bit of shopping therapy around the “nine streets” of Amsterdam.

Hans Boodt: You mentioned Dusseldorf. So your next trip: will that be business or pleasure?

Casual Male: A bit of both actually. We will be featured at the Euroshop trade fair but we will also make some time to visit the city. Go shopping and have some dinner at the most popular restaurants.Casual Female: Definitely. Last time we really didn’t have the chance and I really love visiting European cities. Something we like doing on our spare time as well actually. We also join the Hans Boodt team at saturday night.

Hans Boodt: Hence the excitement for Dusseldorf I suppose!

Casual Female: [Laughing] Yup! Dance parties and staying up is an indulgence! We don’t like it every night, but when we want to go out dancing, we don’t want to be told when the party is over.Casual Male: [Takes out his iPad] Here, these are some of the pictures from last time.

Hans Boodt: It looks l ike you had a lot of fun! And I see you already have an iPad air. I thought there was a waiting l ist!

Casual Male: Well, I was clever enough to pre-order mine. But the waiting list was a stunt I think. I don’t think they had one.

Hans Boodt: So I take it you are both very tech- savvy?

Casual Male: Well, I love Apple products. They have really made my professional life easier. My schedule is crazy so it’s like I have a PA.Casual Female: Oh come on! Not only profession-ally. I mean of course they have simplified our life, but I think it has brought a lot of entertainment as well.

Hans Boodt: So the latest gadgets are a must have?

Casual Male: Definitely. No doubt.Casual Female: And a great pair of heels!

Hans Boodt: For dancing right?

Casual Female: [Laughing] Yes. But you never know when they might come in handy.

Then I realized that this was a project in its own right, designing a life-sized human skeleton.Apart from the fact that the skeleton really grabbed my attention, I also fantasized using it as a coat rack or display because it has so many bones.
