A message from...David Crome, First Great Western

One of the brilliant things about Hannahs is that they transform the lives of everyone who touches them. Of course their mission is quite clear; they exist to make life better for thousands of people affected either directly or indirectly by disability. But the amazing and almost unique thing about Hannahs is that they give you back as much as you give them. Give them your time, help raise some funds and you’ll see the value of your contribution. Becoming a regular giver, using the form on the back of this magazine, is a perfect way to pledge your ongoing support.

If you’re not ‘on the journey’ then you should be and you can be! Hannahs makes it very easy to get ‘on the journey’ with them and trust me I know a bit about the difference between easy and difficult journeys. For us at FGW the wonderful thing is that we keep finding ways to be able to work with Hannahs whether it’s lending them train seats for an exhibition, doing some volunteering or just providing a few train tickets.

The highlight of our relationship with Hannahs so far was the unveiling of a train named after Hannahs. It was a very special day and equally as exciting for us as it was for all the young people from Hannahs at Ivybridge and Seale-Hayne who were there to join in the celebrations.

There is so much going on at Hannahs - whether you are an individual or part of an organisation - you’ll be amazed at what you can do with them. Beyond raising much needed cash you can give them your time and whatever skills and expertise you have. You can also tell people about Hannahs, all it does and all it has to offer so that other people go there, see the magic, join in themselves and transform more lives.

About Hannahs

Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, or Hannahs as we are known, is a pioneering charity that has worked with, and championed, disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people and adults with a range of disabilities for more than 240 years. We were founded in 1767 through the generous legacy of Dame Hannah Rogers, the wife of a Plymouth MP who had a passion for working with children. Although our proud history has always been varied, the aim has been simple: to help enrich and empower the lives of children and adults in need.

Since first opening in 1925 as the UK’s first orthopaedic hospital at Ivybridge, we opened the doors to support children with cerebral palsy and since then Hannahs at Ivybridge has gone from strength to strength. The site at Ivybridge is an Ofsted accredited Centre of Excellence and home to our School, Respite Centre, Community Hub, Children’s Home and Hannahwood – an innovative transition project for 19-25 year olds.

Hannahs acquired Seale-Hayne and in May 2010 we opened our social enterprise to the public. The 90 acre site provides innovative and ground breaking facilities for people with disabilities once they reach adulthood. With an outdoor pursuits centre, recording studios, sensory music room, a farm, a

gallery, a bistro, workshops, vocational courses and learning placements, it is a place of true integration and imagination. We also have our ground-breaking clinical outreach service.

We are now able to offer a range of accessible accommodation, providing desperately needed breaks for young people and their families in this beautiful site. We have a family apartment, en suite bedrooms and glamping lodges and visitors have access to all the facilities on site as well as support staff.

None of this would have been possible without the continued help of our supporters and volunteers so thank you for all of your support!

Newsflash IvybridgeSchool

School PromEveryone from Ivybridge had a lovely time at the annual Prom. There was plenty of fun photos, delicious food and live music from Hannahs very own band, Hannahs All Stars, as well as music from DJ Nicola Roberts, who works at Seale-Hayne.

Hannahwood

SailingThanks to Horizons Children’s Sailing Charity and their wheelchair accessible boat, several groups from Hannahwood have been on sailing trips along the Plymouth coast this summer. The highlight for most of them was actually being able to steer the boat themselves with specially adapted equipment.

Sports DaySports day started with a wonderful fancy dress parade before the games got under way. Among the prize winners were Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Dr Who. The sun came out and the sports involved alot of water and custard pies!

Summer FayreThe Summer Fayre is always a popular event in Hannahs calendar. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed the dog show, live music, gift stalls and excellent refreshments. This year we raised over £2,600!

Pony AccessThe young adults visited Exmouth Beach several times over the summer and had a brilliant time thanks to Simon from Pony Access. They particularly enjoyed going with Obama the pony for a paddle in the sea. This is one of the only ways wheelchairs are able to get to the beach. For some this was the very first time they had been into the sea which was very exciting.

Adult Social NightsThe Adult Social Nights in Hannahwood are proving as popular as ever particularly the monthly themed night. Disney and Around the World were among the more recent themes.

Newsflash Seale-Hayne

RobotDan Lynn and Ruairi Corr, students from the WESC Foundation, the Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment, have created an amazing steel robot at Seale-Hayne. With help and tuition from resident blacksmith Rob Hill, they managed to build the metal sculpture and weld the parts together.

Stagecoach Bus CampaignHannahs guest Jamie Farr launched a very successful awareness campaign with Stagecoach in July. The “My Hannahs” posters appeared on 20 buses covering Torbay to Exeter and featured individuals and their families who are supported by the Trust.

International Arts Fairs GatheringDelegates from all over the world travelled to spend a week at Seale-Hayne this summer for the annual gathering of Ramsay Fairs, organisers of the renowned Affordable Art Fairs. They enjoyed plenty of activities at Seale-Hayne and the surrounding area including Morris dancing lessons!

Taiko FestivalHundreds of drumming fans descended on Seale-Hayne for the 10th UK Taiko Festival. Over 200 drummers from as far away as Australia, Japan and the USA took part in the festival and nearly 500 visitors were there to enjoy some stunning performances.

Greenwood CraftsGreenwood crafts have become very popular at Seale-Hayne. Duchy College students are doing regular courses and during the summer holidays Hannahs ran a workshop for people of all abilities. They all made some amazing tools, benches and animals.

Train NamingFirst Great Western named a High Speed Train in honour of Hannahs. Bronwen Hewitt unveiled the plaque and officially named the train at a ceremony at Exeter St Davids station. Our young people from Ivybridge and guests from Seale-Hayne were there to enjoy the memorable event.

My HannahsCJ WARECJ Ware has been a regular guest at Hannahs at Seale-Hayne, helping out in music sessions, since he left school in 2011. He recently received a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society. This is a huge achievement for CJ who has Aspergers Syndrome and a range of other disabilities. After three years of hard work and working closely with local photographer Clive Figes, CJ produced ten stunning photographic images which earned him this award.

“Seale-Hayne is a really nice warm welcoming environment. It is like being part

of one big massive family. Nothing is too much trouble and there is always someone there to help.”

ROLAND CROWRoland Crow helps run Hannahs radio station, Access All Aerials, at Seale-Hayne. He has recently been shortlisted for the Volunteer-ability Award in the Volunteer of the Year Awards, organized by the Devon Community Foundation. From a young age Roland led a very active life spending a lot of his time as a DJ in clubs. Sadly he had a series of strokes which totally changed his life but in 2011 he began volunteering at Seale-Hayne and helped set up Access all Aerials, including his own DJ slot. He provides weekly one to one DJ skills training for other volunteers with disabilities and has helped train more than 100 people.

“Getting involved at Hannahs at Seale-Hayne as a volunteer has given me an opportunity

that is hard to find for people with disabilities. For two days every week I share my skills with other people and get involved in making a difference in other people’s lives. I’ve made friends and improved my communication abilities.”

STEVE PHILIPSSteve Philips has a learning disability and in 2011 lost his job which left him feeling very low and lacking in confidence. In 2013 he started coming to Hannahs at Seale-Hayne and attending the Greenwood working sessions two days a week.

“ I used to enjoy my job but was told I wasn’t allowed to do it anymore. I felt

really sad about it and didn’t want to go out so I didn’t really do much after that. I didn’t have any confidence. I love it here – the staff explain things to me and help me to use the tools and I get to do sawing, coppicing and put the plastic covering over our new polytunnel – that was fun! I feel like I have come out of my shell and have more confidence – a big thing for me was to attend the Christmas party with my new friends that I have met at the sessions but I did go and really enjoyed it.”

Donate Your SkillsHannahs has over three hundred fabulous volunteers who help us in many different areas, from the charity shops to our horticultural area at Seale-Hayne. In the Fundraising Team we have a number of volunteering opportunities, helping us raise as much money as possible to help transform the lives of children and adults with disabilities.

We are looking to set up new Supporter Groups in Devon. We have a fantastic group of fundraising volunteers based in Ivybridge, who raise lots of money throughout the year in the South Hams area, and you are more than welcome to join these lovely ladies. If you would like to set up a new group closer to home, we are here to support you all the way. Our Supporter Groups host events, from quiz suppers to fashion shows and lunches, raising over £5,000 annually. Being a part of a Supporter Group is a great way to meet new friends, as well as being an excuse to have a good cup of tea with existing ones!

Autumn LunchOur lovely ladies organised a wonderful Autumn Lunch at the Moorland Garden Hotel, Yelverton with Ann Widdecombe as the guest of honour. After a delicious lunch over 130 guests were entertained by Ann with stories ranging from her days in Westminster to her experience on Strictly Come Dancing. The talk was followed by both serious and frivolous questions and a great time was had by all.

Helping Hannahs with a Gift in Your WillThe Dame Hannah Rogers Trust only exists because over 240 years ago Dame Hannah Rogers left a £10,000 gift in her will “for poor and unfortunate children from Devon and Cornwall”.

Dame Hannah Rogers had a passion for working with children and her legacy lives on today, providing education and care for young people with profound physical disabilities from right across the UK.

The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust is a testimony to the difference a gift in your will can make – however big or small.

If you would like more information about remembering Hannahs with a gift in your will please contact Emily Severn on 01626 325682 or [email protected]

Christine Carder case studyI have been involved with Hannahs for three years since going to Seale-Hayne with Plymouth Rotary Club. I decided to raise funds for the Trust whilst I was president of Plymouth Inner Wheel. I came up with the Hearts for Hannahs idea because it sounded good and I love making hearts! This will be the third year that I will have a stall at the Christmas Fayre and now I make bags, small quilts and Christmas stockings as well. Last autumn I was pleased to be asked to join the Ivybridge Supporter Group so now I get involved with other fundraising and awareness events. I think that the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust does the most amazing work in the School and at Seale-Hayne. I have only ever met kindness and enthusiasm in both places and I love being part of that even in a small way.

What Could You Do With 2 Hours?1. Clean the oven2. Listen to the Archers omnibus3. Organise your filing4. CHANGE THE LIFE OF SOMEONE WITH DISABILITIESWe are currently looking for volunteers to help us with our collection box network, a role with completely flexible time commitment needs. Even if you only have two hours a month to spare, that would help us hugely! All you have to do is pick up full existing collection tins and replace them with fresh ones, whilst also scouting out new tin locations. This can be as geographically convenient to you as you like.

Community FundraisingHannahs HeroesThese two amazing chaps came to help Hannahs through the charity’s partnership with First Great Western. Neil is FGW’s Mobility and Inclusion Manager, while Mark is the Station Manager for the Plymouth Area.

Mark and Neil climbed Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain, on behalf of Hannahs in September. We’re in awe of such bravery! They’ve raised over £9,000 for Hannahs and we can’t thank them enough for this amazing donation.

Hannahs SkydiveHow about ticking something off your ‘bucket-list’ and doing something amazing for Hannahs? Now’s your chance! We’re busy organising our next tandem skydiving challenge for March 2015, and we’re on the look-out for potential daredevils. Our last jump, in August 2014, has raised over £2,000 and half the group immediately signed up for another go because they loved the experience so much.

The jump is held at Dunkeswell Airfield, near Honiton, and is the only place in the world (apart from Dubai) where you can skydive from 15,000ft. You can’t go any higher! The views are spectacular, allowing you to see from South Wales all the way to Land’s End.

If you want to take the leap for Hannahs, contact Imogen, our Community Engagement Executive, on 01626 325838 or [email protected].

Events and Festivals

SEALE-HAYNEBeer and Music FestivalHannahs hosted its first ever Beer and Music Festival at Seale-Hayne this summer. Visitors enjoyed two days of the very best in local beer, bands, bikes and barbecue food. Supported by South Devon CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale) and BMAD (Bikers Make A Difference), there were more than 40 local real ales and ciders to taste. There was an amazing line up of live music from some of the best local bands from across the South West.

Outdoor Film FestivalHannahs hosted its first ever Open Air Film Festival at Seale-Hayne over the August Bank Holiday weekend. In partnership with Dartington Arts, the festival featured a selection of classic and blockbuster films including the ever popular Dirty Dancing!

DEVON AND CORNWALLOver the summer we took a stand at some local festivals in the region. The aim was to have a presence in the community, reach out to a wider audience, raise awareness of the Trust and our work while trying to get more donations!

Port Eliot FestivalOriginally a literary festival, the Port Eliot Festival is now an annual celebration of words, music, imagination, ideas, nature, food, fashion, flowers, laughter, exploration and fun. It attracts thousands of visitors from all over the UK and has renowned designers, writers, actors and chefs have all taken part in recent years.

Bovey Contemporary Craft Festival The Contemporary Craft Festival was founded in 2003 and has become one of the most prestigious and highly acclaimed craft events in the UK. The aim of the Fair is to showcase the very best in British craft and to create a new, sustainable and strong market place for contemporary craft but also to bring greater prosperity to the town of Bovey Tracey.

Exeter RespectExeter Respect is the city’s annual celebration of diversity where they use the performing and creative arts to engage the wider community in saying no to racism and all forms of prejudice. One of the best ways to get to know someone is to enjoy yourself with them, hence this celebratory event and adoption of the old Commission for Racial Equality slogan: All Different, All Equal!

IvybridgeSpeech and languageThe Speech and Language team has had a paper published in the latest ‘Communication Matters’ journal. This reflects a research project carried out jointly with Plymouth University. The paper Increasing the Communicative Opportunities for VOCA (voice output communication aids) used through staff and parent training.

Base line measures were carried out:

1. to look at barriers to supporting the communication aids

2. to measure how much the communication aids were used

3. cognitive assessments (photo of Dan Bradbury and our Plymouth University researcher Lauren)

This valuable research will inform how we deliver training and improve our practice working more closely with parents and care staff alike.

Training was then delivered by our therapists Baukje Gregory and Ruth Firth to parents and care staff.

After six months post measures were carried out and there were many positive outcomes. Care staff and parents perceived less barriers, the communication aids were being used more and for those who were using their communication aids more their cognitive scores had also increased.

SensorySensory development is featuring more than ever within the school day at Hannahs in Ivybridge. The focus on sensory activities reflects the needs of the students.

We are developing sensory input in to the school day by:

• Rolling out fully the new Arts Award, an accredited qualification for post 16

• Extending the ASDAN units and making them much more sensory - ASDAN is a pioneering curriculum development organisation and awarding body, offering programmes and qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, skills for employment and skills for life.

• Further upgrading the dark room with more sensory equipment

• Increasing the use of iPads• Extending the sensory curriculum which

now encompasses education for primary aged children

• Making all celebrations e.g. Halloween and Christmas much more sensory in development and delivery

ACCESS ALL AERIALSCan you help us find the next generation of ‘as yet unheard’ radio presenters?

The Access All Aerials project (AAA) began in 2011. AAA brings Hannahs’ aims to life by offering people with disabilities the chance to create their own radio programmes, giving them a creative outlet, a chance to reach a global audience and ultimately a VOICE that shares their unique point-of-view. It is run by 18 presenters of ALL abilities with 36 shows covering a HUGE range of subjects both music and speech-based, plus a 24/7 internet radio stream. Since AAA took to the Internet airwaves, it has has since attracted nearly 30,000 show listens.

In its endeavours, AAA has gratefully received help from Starbucks Youth Action, which has allowed the team to create an accessible, high-quality studio at Seale-Hayne and new influx of funding from the Ron Marks legacy will support the ‘Broadcasting-in-a-Box’ concept.

For more information, please visit the AAA website at: www.accessallaerials.com or contact project leader Carl Munson [email protected]

Reach is a ‘multi-disciplinary team’ which means we have lots of professionals working together to provide a holistic service to all individuals, the team consists of Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Counsellors, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

In addition to this service we are working on a number of high profile research projects which will help raise awareness of Hannahs amongst professionals and help secure future funding for the team.

Also within Reach we are beginning to set up the Brain in Hand service which uses computer software and an app to help support individuals with their day to day lives to maintain independence. The unique feature of Brain in Hand is the mentors available at the touch of a button who will provide help and support through a crisis. The mentors are wonderful staff members from all areas of Seale-Hayne who have volunteered their time to help and support the individuals at Hannahs. The Brain in Hand system will be available to any guest who would like to use it and is available through the Integration Station at Seale-Hayne.

Accommodation

Clare’s HouseClare’s House is a fully accessible holiday home in Devon for people with disabilities and their families, managed by a small team of people under the umbrella of The Dame Hannah Rogers Trust, made possible thanks to the generosity of the Clare Milne Trust.

Surrounded by stunning Devon countryside and just a few minutes from the sea, Clare’s House (actually a 4 bedroom bungalow!) provides a fully adapted environment for the whole family and is furnished to a high standard.

The house itself is situated in large and tranquil gardens, which also house the resident alpacas and plenty of other wildlife such as squirrels, rabbits, foxes and birds.

The perfect place to relax and take in the lovely views. There is also an undercover, heated hydrotherapy pool for the private use of guests.

Clare’s House (also known as Claypitts), is located in the village of Otterton, just a short drive from Ladram Bay and the popular towns of Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Exmouth and Topsham. Otterton, known for its thatched

roofs and quaint cob-and -brick cottages, has everything you could need during your stay. As well as a warm welcome you will also find a shop, church, hairdresser, pub, and award-winning cafe, as well as one of the oldest working water mills in the country.

The house is named after Clare Milne who was an Ambassador for Hannahs. She was a creative, witty and happy person who loved to entertain people in her house - the fuller the better! After Clare sadly died in 2012 the Clare Milne Trust realised that the sale of her wonderfully adapted house would be a real loss to others with disabilities, and it seemed fitting that it should be opened up for others to enjoy.

The Clare Milne Trust was established in 2002 by Clare Milne. It has helped many, many smaller charities with their work for people with disabilities in, or close to, Devon and Cornwall. The Trustees are delighted to be providing a lasting legacy for Clare through Hannahs, offering this beautiful house for individuals, carers and families to enjoy a much needed break.

ArtsSUMMER OF ART – DIGITAL INVASION at Seale-Hayne was a celebration of digital art from film to photography and augmented reality to animation. It encompassed a fascinating variety of arts related activities.

Living Data, a stunning digital exhibition, was the centrepiece of our exciting summer of art and technology at Seale-Hayne. The exhibition by artist Michael Takeo Magruder featured a constantly evolving and changing selection of digitally hybrid paintings, videos and installations. The works were created by pulling data and images from trending social media topics, weather patterns, global financial markets and news stories to create spectacular art that changes in front of your eyes.

Snapshot All visitors and staff were asked to take a photo to capture one day at Seale-Hayne and all the photos were made into a piece of digital art.

365 Festival and Our Big Gig A celebration of work created by local schools including art, music and dance which were all incorporated into Our Big Gig, a community music celebration which took place across the UK.

48hour Film Challenge Run in partnership with the Exeter Phoenix, this film challenge proved very popular with some very original and creative entries.

Open Air Cinema In partnership with Dartington Arts, Hannahs screened a selection of classic and blockbuster films in the Quad.

Jerwood Makers OpenTowards the end of the summer Hannahs hosted the Jerwood Makers Open Exhibition, fresh from its opening in London. This now biannual event saw Jerwood commission five artists and makers (selected from over 200 applications), all in the early stages of their careers. They were looking to try something new in their practice, or take artistic risks which might not otherwise have been possible. The results this year were outstanding and we were delighted to host an exhibition of this kind at Hannahs. We were also very pleased to welcome students from Plymouth College of Art who came to see the exhibition and we look forward to working with them further in the future.

Dance WorkshopsDance instructor Clair Beckett runs dance workshops for a group of Hannahs guests every week at Seale-Hayne. The group took part in a six week research project funded by the Arts Council to create a new play, written by Nick Stimson. The play is about the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust and Seale-Hayne, tracing their histories from the beginning up to the present day. The dance group worked with Clair Beckett to create choreography based on stories of their own which will form an integral part of the final performance of the play. This will be performed at Seale-Hayne in 2015, involving members of the local community and Seale-Hayne.

Jimmy

“ I work in the Gallery at

Seale-Hayne two days a week. I found out about Hannahs through Headway which I have been attending since I suffered a brain injury a few years ago. I used to be a roofer but after my injury I couldn’t carry on any more. When I first came round Seale-Hayne I was really wowed by the place and think it is amazing. I then went round the Ivybridge site and realised what a really good cause I was working for and that my disability was nothing compared to the young people at Ivybridge. I really enjoy working here and look forward to coming to work.

The Experience WarehouseThe Art Room at Seale-Hayne has been relocated next door to Camp Mawazo and is now called the Experience Warehouse. The regular art groups are enjoying working in this light and vibrant room.

Forthcoming ExhibitionsWe are very happy to welcome back Louise Courtnell with her new exhibition, Faces of Cawsands, which will open at Hannahs in early February 2015. Louise was last with us in February 2014 when she offered an extremely popular demonstration as part of our Robert Lenkiewicz exhibition, Family Matters. As a former student of Lenkiewicz, it was a fascinating insight into the work of both Louise and Robert and we are looking forward to seeing an exhibition of works by this hugely talented artist from the South West.

All our exhibitions are free of charge to visit. Keep an eye on our website for details of our 2015 exhibition programme, and don’t forget the Chapel Gallery is always open selling a fantastic array of work by local and resident artists.

Bistro

“Working in the Bistro is quite challenging but that’s good because

it keeps me on my toes. I am meeting lots of different people every day and there is never a dull moment. I am lucky as I work with a really good team. - Nicola

Situated at the heart of our Edwardian Quadrangle, the Bistro is a well-loved spot for meeting friends, colleagues and family. The traditional wood panelled room, furnished with a mixture of dining tables and sofas, often features the work of local artists. Daily newspapers are on hand if you fancy kicking back for a while or if you’re looking to keep the kids entertained, try out our blackboard table where they can draw away to their hearts content. During the summer months, our terrace is open for al fresco dining, or alternatively, pick up one of our picnic blankets to relax on the lawns.

We’re best at serving good coffee, homemade cakes (baked in our kitchen), a fine English breakfast and fresh salads at lunchtime. Coupled with a friendly, warm welcome, it’s easy to see why we’re becoming a firm favourite with the locals.

Our lunch menu (served 12pm – 3pm) features light bites, an ‘open sandwich’ selection, jacket potatoes, salads and delicious main courses. We’ve also introduced a selection of meals for children, as well as colouring placemats to keep them entertained.

On Sundays, we open for breakfast at the later time of 9am, followed by a traditional Sunday lunch.

We’re also open every evening with a delicious dinner menu combining fresh ingredients and flavours and a specials board that showcases some of chef Dino’s favourite dishes. Look out for regular theme evenings and special events.

If you’d rather have lunch on the go, don’t forget we offer a take-away service in our Pantry-to-Go, as well as baked potatoes, soup, cakes, drinks and snacks.

Booking is highly recommended for any Bistro visits tel: 01626 325 800

Horticulture

Music

Our beautiful Potager Garden thrived over the summer and was very productive. Giant Tromboncino squashes, grapes ripening on the vine, giant pumpkins on the new vegetable terrace were flanked by ranks of kale, parsley and leeks.

In the Adult Services sessions, Hannahs guests used our fruit and vegetables to make pesto, pizza and garlic potatoes, raspberry lemonade, wineberry muffins, fruit crumble and fruit fool. A fourth session started recently with some of our young adults from Ivybridge, and many of our other sessions have expanded in numbers.

Thanks to our fabulous regular volunteers we now have automatic irrigation in the polytunnel fed by a natural spring and by rainwater. This is part of a much bigger plan to manage the whole garden without using any mains water.

At Seale-Hayne we offer high-end recording, rehearsal, performance and therapeutic facilities, open and accessible to everyone and carefully tailored to meet the needs of the creative soul by a handpicked team of musicians, sound-engineers and experienced music industry professionals.

We work under an uncompromised philosophy of integration for those with disabilities of all kinds. We offer both creative and professional opportunities to those who might find them difficult to come by elsewhere.

In short, we are dedicated to breaking down and rebuilding common perceptions regarding what disabled people can and can’t do in a real music industry environment.

Every week we have several groups and individuals with a range of disabilities coming to music sessions in Big Red and the Yellow Rooms at Seale-Hayne and the benefits and rewards are wonderful to see.

Charity Shops

Gift AidHannahs Charity Shops are in the process of rolling out their retail Gift Aid programme. This will enable Hannahs to reclaim an additional 25p in every pound which is raised from qualifying donations at no cost or hassle to you, the donor.

Please help Hannahs raise as much money as possible by registering yourself with Gift Aid the next time you call in store with your much needed donation or you call to arrange a furniture collection.

“ I came to work at the Hannahs shop in Transit Way on a work placement

and I enjoyed it so much that I stayed on as a volunteer. I really enjoy meeting all the customers and I am now loving the challenge of our new Gift Aid system in the shop which is an interesting part of the job.”- Penny Davis

Transit WaySince our last edition we have opened our new superstore and central warehouse at Transit Way, Plymouth. You can find everything from clothing, home ware, music, films, electricals and furniture. Transit Way is now open seven days a week with ample free parking. The response has been amazing both from volunteers and the public. We have already seen sales figures increase 60% in the first two months with plans already in place to extend the showroom to cope with demand.

Call to actionHelp Hannahs by becoming a volunteer in store. Whether you work on the sales floor, behind the scenes in our stock rooms preparing donations or in our new Transit way warehouse we have a role which will use your skills.

To find out more call into your local store or contact our Retail Manager, Daniel Burke on 07792 767632 or [email protected]

National Charity Shop Survey ResultsPublished by Civil SocietyHannahs took part in a national survey of 73 charities and came 2nd in the profit margin category and weekly hours worked by volunteers. The Trust also appeared in the top 20 for income and profit.

This is only achievable with the loyal support of our dedicated volunteers.
