Dear Tom, Please read the story. Yours, Mr Barton Once upon a time there was a boy. He was nine or ten years old. His name was Keli. Keli lived in Australia, near a very big red rock. The name of the rock was Uluru. It was hot there, very hot. Keli liked sitting in the sand. He liked playing games with small stones. And he liked watching the kangaroos hopping around. One day Keli was tired of sitting in the sand. He was tired of playing with small stones. And he was tired of watching kangaroos hopping around. Keli said, ‘Oh, this is boring.’ He said to his father, ‘Come on, Father, please play with me.’ ‘Not now,’ said his father. ‘I’m making a new boomerang.’ Keli was angry. He walked away. Then he shouted very loudly, ‘A dingo!’ Everybody in his family came running: his father, his mother, his big sister, his big brothers. They all wanted to help Keli. They looked to the right, they looked to the left. But there was no dingo. There was only Keli. Keli said, ‘Sorry, just kidding.’ Now his father, his mother, his big sister and his big brothers were very angry with Keli. The next day Keli was sitting in the sand. He said, ‘Oh, this is boring.’ He went to his big sister. He said, ‘Come on, Sister, please play with me.’ ‘Not now,’ said his sister. ‘I’m washing the clothes.’ Keli was angry. He walked away. Then he shouted very loudly, ‘A dingo!’ Everybody in his family came running: his father, his mother, his big sister, his big brothers. They all wanted to help Keli. They looked to the right, they looked to the left. But there was no dingo. There was only Keli. Keli said, ‘Sorry, just kidding.’ Now his father, his mother, his big sister and his big brothers were very angry with Keli. The next day Keli was sitting in the sand again. He was watching a kangaroo hopping around. A kangaroo? No, the animal over there wasn’t hopping. It was running. The animal over there wasn’t big. It was small. The animal over there didn’t have big ears. It had small ears. It was a dingo! Keli was very scared. He shouted, ‘A dingo!’ His father came running. He was very angry with Keli. No more kidding. His big sister came running. She was very angry with Keli. No more kidding. They looked and they saw … the dingo. Keli’s father threw the boomerang at the dingo. They chased the dingo away. The dingo was scared and ran away. Keli was very happy. He said, ‘Phew – no more kidding!’
