Thee prayer,
which we
recite every
day, can be
found in a
book called
the siddur.
It is a Mitzvah to pray to Hashem for whatever we need. We
ask Hashem to answer our requests for ourselves and otherpeople. Hashem always listens very carefully, especially to the
prayers of little children.
triple prayWe pray three times a day:
Shacharis, the morning prayer
Mincha, the afternoon prayer
Maariv, the evening prayer
Sop and hinkIn our prayers, we should concentrate and
think about:
Loving Hashem and fearing Him.
Asking Hashem to watch over and
protect
the Jewish people.
Learning the Torah and doing Mitzvos.
Eagerly waiting for Moshiach and the
redemption.
The best place to pray is in a synagogue. Its
even better if you can do so together with a
Minyan (a group of at least ten adult men).
Hashem hears and understands us in any
language, but the best way to pray to Him is
in Hebrew, if you can.
Now that youre ready to start praying, lets
learn about some of the important daily
prayers like the Shema and the Amidah.

WHaT does iT mean?
If someone says, I have worked hard and I have not
been successful, dont believe him. If someone says,
I have not worked hard and I have been successful,
dont believe him. If someone says, I have worked
hard and I have been successful, believe him!
(Megilla 6b)
Sometimes, it seems like a job takes such a long
time to fnish, or a homework assignment seems too
difcult to do. Dont give up! The Torah tells us that i
we try and try again, we will surely succeed. All it
takes is a lot o eort!
Vahavta Lereiacho komochaRabi Akiva omer zeh klal gadol batorah
WHaT does iT mean?
Rabbi Akiva says that, To love your fellow as yourself,
is a great basic principle of the Torah.
(Levit. 19: 18, Midrash)
As we try to make ourselves better people, we should not
orget about our riends and neighbors. As Rabbi Akiva said
we should love other people just like we love ourselves. This
is the main point o our learning. So, i we are lucky enough
to learn Torah, we should help our Jewish riends study
Torah too.

A Mezuzah is a small scroll o handwritten
parchment written by a Soer (scribe), just like a
Torah scroll is. It contains the the frst two portions
o Shema that command us with the mitzvah o
Mezuzah. The Mezuzah is rolled up in a case and
nailed or secured frmly to the doorpost. Even
though a Mezuzah should have a nice case, it is
most important that the parchment scroll inside
should be the best quality we can aord. A
Mezuzah that is written on paper or printed o
the computer is not kosher. It is a mitzvah to put Mezuzos on the doorposts
o every room in our home and place o
business, including basements, attics, and
garages. A Jewish home with a Mezuzah is a holy
place, and those who live in it are protected by Hashems
blessings.
Where gesThere are special rules or how the Mezuzah should
be placed:
on the right doorpost as you enter
at the bottom o the top third on the doorpost
in a slanted position, with the top o the Mezuzah
slanted towards the inside o the room.
right side up (not upside down)
Blessg When we attach the Mezuzah on the doorpost, we say this
bracha:
,,
Baruch atah Ado-noi, Elo-hainu melech
haolam, asher kidishanu bimitzvosov
vitzvanu, leekboah mezuzah.
W H a t d o e s i t m e a n ?
Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, who makes us holy with His commandments and
commanded us to put up a Mezuzah.
chek Temperature and weather changes, as well
as age, may cause the ink to ade, crack
and invalidate the Mezuzah. Each
Mezuzah must be checked by areliable scribe at least twice every
seven years. Some people have
their Mezuzos checked once
a year. The best time to
check them is beore
Rosh Hashana or Yom
Kippur.
