What is the Professional Development Service for

Teachers (PDST)?

The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) was established in

September 2010 as a new, generic, integrated and cross-sectoral support

service for schools. The establishment of the organisation was synonymous

with the amalgamation of a number of stand-alone support services which now

operate under the PDST and which continue to provide their services to schools

in the context of PDST’s overall vision and mission.

Vision: The aim of the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) is

to provide high quality professional development and support that empowers

teachers and school leaders to provide the best possible education for all

pupils/students.

Mission: As teacher educators and in developing teachers and school leaders

as reflective lifelong learners , our mission is to provide a range of professional

development experiences and models which support professional learning,

reflection, collaboration and evidence-based practice with a particular

emphasis on:

curriculum, pupil learning and welfare

learning and teaching methodologies

specific supports for school leaders

information and communications technology

school self-evaluation and school improvement.

The overall goal for the PDST is for it to be widely acknowledged as an

innovative, responsive and trusted provider of continuing professional

development and support for teachers and school leaders.

PDST is a support service of the Teacher Education Section of the Department

of Education and Skills and is managed by Dublin West Education Centre.

undertaken by ALFA at Blackrock Education Centre.

Following approval and processing, the travel and subsistence is paid directly to

the Associates’ and Local Facilitators’ bank accounts, and all documentation is

retained at ALFA in Blackrock Education Centre for audit purposes.

complete the Associates and Local Facilitators Claim Form for

Expenses/Fees in full, including calculating mileage, claiming

appropriate subsistence, etc. For audit purposes, all distances are

checked using Google Maps, so it is advisable to check these out

prior to submission of claims, as deviation from the standard

distances will cause delay in processing. If for any reason it is

necessary to travel by an alternative route, this should be stated in

the accompanying documentation, and the reason clearly outlined,

and the statement should be signed and dated by the Associate/

Local Facilitator. Travel and Subsistence expenses must be submitted

to the relevant administrative base within calendar month of the

work being completed. Late expenses may be subject to an

administrative reduction. This statement will be retained for audit

purposes.
