If you get to the bottom of the big hill you have gone too far. Dress appropriately since part of the tour will be outside. You will learn how the pecans are picked, shelled and packaged for sale. Contact the office, by November 6, so we can get a count of how many will attend. Consider joining us for thisonce-in-a-lifetime trip to explore the federallegisla-tive process, tour various sites around the Washing-ton, D.C. area, visit Illinois' Representatives, andmore. We'll be travelling Saturday, July 7 to Satur-day, July 14,2018.

Citizenship Washington Focus is for 4-H membersages 14-18 by May 1, 2018. Our delegates will travelby bus or air, depending upon the number of finaldelegates who register. We haven't been able to final-ize our 2018 costs yet (not all of our vendors haveresponded), but our 2017 cost to youth was $1,025.We know we are potentially looking at a travel costincrease, so we are estimating a final cost of $1,200.That includes a discount due to financial assistancefrom the Illinois 4-H Foundation. Payments are madewhen registering, February, and May. The initial de-posit is $325. The final payment will be adjusted asneeded to meet whatever the final cost will be.

Lead.The Spirit ofLincoln Youth AcadeDlV

LEAD is a robust, one-of-a kind youth leader-ship program that utilizes immersive experi-ences to empower emerging leaders to developleadership qualities. We specifically select stu-dents who have the potential to be leaders, butmay not see it in them-selves.

Participants spend a fullweek exploring the qual-ities that made AbrahamLincoln such a greatleader in his day. Theylearn why those samequalities are so importantin our leaders today, and how, as individuals,they can apply those qualities as they developtheir own leadership skills for the future.

This trip will take place June 10-15,2018 atIllinois College in Jacksonville. Open to cur-rent 7th grade 4-H members. If you are inter-ested in attending please contact the office formore information.

During LEAD, the Emerging Leaders:• Explore Lincoln's life and times by visitingvarious historic sites throughout the NationalHeritage Area to see how individuals wereable to make a difference in their communitiesand affect change in their state and their na-tion;• Examine how people in today's world facemany of the same challenges as those faced byLincoln and other leaders of his day - includ-ing issues such as racism through a series ofgroup discussions and projects;• Discuss the leadership qualities of honesty,empathy, humility and perseverance and de-velop a plan for incorporating those qualitiesinto their own lives as they return home.One full week = one life-changing experience

Pioneer Plant Tour HeldOn Wednesday, October 18,26 members, parentsand friends attended the very fun and educationaltour at the local Pioneer Plant. Participants learnedabout plant operations from contracted acres withlocal growers, unloading the grain trucks, grading,testing, separating, treating, bagging and finallyshipping out the grain, to be planted next year.Thank you for your hospitality!

National 4-H Volunteere-Foruan for Leaders andTeens Teachers

Pioneer Country KidsPioneer Country Kids met on September 26 at 5:00 p.m.in the courthouse basement. We worked on our superheroes for our 4-H Week display and talked about whatwe are doing for International Night.

Piopolis Busy BeesThe Piopolis Busy Bees had a meeting on Sep-tember 25th. We folded cards for the nursinghomes. We worked on enrollment for this year.We elected officers and we worked on Namibiaposters for International Night. Our new officersare Brianna Wilson-President, Jenna WilsonVice President, Lily Rawls-Secretary and Treas-urer-Levi Erwin, and Reporter Jenna Irwin. Jun-ior Leaders are Levi Erwin, Brianna Wilson andReagan Irwin. We welcomed our new membersand enjoyed a snack.

County Line CrewCounty Line Crew met at 4:00 October 1st atthe Parkers. Minutes of the last meeting wereread by Madison Miller and the treasurer's re-port was given by Cameron Parker. Committeereports were given on International night, T-shirt committee, and Youth choices/Y outh voic-es. For International night we discussed whatwe are serving, who is making a poster, and isanyonedressing up. We came up with a design for ourT-shirts and Kate gave a talk about Youthchoices/Y outh voices. In unfinished business wetalked about the farmers market which is stillopen on Wednesdays, Kitchenaid Mixer status,and re-enrollment. The next meeting will beNovember 13 at the Macedonia lodge.
