Zoom, Zoom, Zoom…..
Since the beginning of the Pandemic, many of us have been using Zoom for our church
activities. Whether its committee meetings, bible studies, or Sunday School classes, we
have embraced technology to stay connected to each other. We have been blessed with
the benefits of connecting in ways we never imagined and with people who have moved
away, have other obligations on Sunday morning, or simply do not regularly participate in a
Sunday School As we get ready to resume church activities in person we certainly do not
want to lose this momentum, so we are going to continue to offer a small group option via
Zoom. We will meet on Monday evenings and anyone who is interested is invited to
participate. This is great for not only our college students and young adults, but for anyone
who would like to participate in multigeneration studies and discussions.
Contact Carol Seymour or Jon Ewing for more information and be on the lookout for more
information on social medica and in the church emails. Meetings will start in June.

Zoom Gathering Together for Spiritual Education:
Children’s Sunday School on Zoom: May 24
We hope that all of you can join us on this Sunday morning
for a Sunday School lesson. We can worship together,
yet apart, at 10:00 for our church service,
THEN at 11:00, please join us for Sunday School.
This week I have sent everyone all the material.
It occurred to me that some of the older folks might
like to do some of the younger’s things for fun, and vice versa. We’ll all listen to the
Bible story together, and then each student can stay and do an activity with us, or
do your own thing later. Here are the directions to join the meeting. Love to all!!
(Please have a Bible and a pencil with you :) :) :)
1-Go to Safari or Chrome, or whatever gets you on the internet
you can do it on any electronic device except TV.
2-Enter zoom.us
3-Click on join meeting
4-The code is 784 3848 1861 (new TODAY, May 24)

7-Call 870-5290 or 722-1712 if there is a problem
Can’t wait to see you again!!! I hope this works better each week.
---Our theme for the last few Sundays has been “Caring for the Least”.

Deacon On-call: On-call for the week of May 17-23 Dick Everett; for the week of May 24-31 Zoom Deacons Meeting schedule for May 26th at 7 p.m.
Update from Pastor Search Committee, Over the last 2 months, while we have all been self-isolating and doing our part to prevent the spread of Covid-19, your search committee has been hard at work. With the help of technology, we have met every week and have worked through the processes outlined for us by The Center for Healthy Churches. We have had the opportunity to meet ministry candidates from varied backgrounds, stages of life, and stages of ministry. We have talked to candidates from congregations much like ours and from congregations very different from ours. We have learned that in many ways we are all alike and in other ways we are very different. In all of this we have a renewed appreciation for our church but also a renewed hope for things to come. The process has instilled in us a renewed sense of hope and excitement for our future. At this time, God has led us to narrow our focus to one candidate. While we have barely entered into Phase 1 of managing the Pandemic, we are committed to moving forward. We hope that over the next few weeks it will become clear to us whether this candidate is who God is calling to Hampton Baptist Church. If this happens, we will figure out a way to introduce the candidate to all of you and plan for a call weekend. We imagine that this might happen sometime between mid-June and the end of summer, but it is difficult to plan during these uncertain times. Right now we ask for your prayers for us, the candidate, and their family as we discern where God is calling us. We ask that you open your hearts and minds to new possibilities and to a new future for our church. Carol Seymour, Jon Ewing, Alystra Barefoot, Jackie Coleman, Jimmy Michael, Bill Abeyounis, Tracy Hudson
PATHWAYS TO SHARING
The Merry Month of May is upon us. Hope all of you are doing well. Encouraging you to support our mission involvement for May. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is not silent, and we have heard more about it on the news lately. I hope you can let your ladies know about this vital ministry. Checks can be sent directly to the TRANSITION FAMILY VIOLENCE SERVICE, 240 Chapel Street, P.O. Box 561, Hampton, Va. 23669. This provides shelter and support primarily to women and children. If you take supplies, they can be delivered on Wednesday between 9:00am and 4:00pm. Thank you in advance. It's a good time to clean out dresser drawers!
Stay well, Marian
Volunteers Still Needed: We are well aware that hands on mission work is difficult at this time, however making masks is something you can do at home! Missions Council is collecting masks to distribute to local grocery stores, doctors’ offices and to our SAME family. Please drop off any donation in the large bin in the back closet (where clothing is usually donated... although SAME is currently NOT taking any clothing).
SAME continues to operate during this time of pandemic. Thanks to the hard work, flexibility and dedication of our volunteers, we are serving up a hot meal each Monday. We have partnered with the Salvation Army, Langley Bojangles, 1st Baptist Hampton and St. Mark United Methodist to serve our SAME family and some of the most vulnerable in our community. Along with lunch, we have, for the last 2 months, done 2 days of grocery delivery to nearly 100 families that cannot get out to the new drive-thru Foodbank grocery distributions. Connecting with PBA, the United Way and former HBC member Jennifer Allgood, we have received and distributed toilet paper, hand sanitizer and homemade cloth masks to our SAME guests. We have also been able to distribute both toiletry products and, to a limited degree, clothing.
We are most grateful to be the recipient of a number of grants to help us address the further burdens COVID19 has put on our neighbors in need. We received grants from both the BGAV and Impact 100 (through the Peninsula Community Foundation) and we participated for the first time in GiveLocal757 where we surpassed our fundraising goal!
As summer approaches, we are looking for more volunteers! Please contact Amy ([email protected]) if you are interested in helping (either behind the scenes or outside with our guests). We are conducting all our programming with minimal people, physical distancing, masks and hand sanitizing and have some jobs that you can safely do without interacting with others.
As always, we are in need of your prayers! Amy Witcover=Sandford
