Halloween at Varenna!
Varenna residents came dressed in their costumes and enjoyed our Halloween Party! The festivities began with live music from the Tracy Rose Band. Chef Tim and his culinary team provided sweet treats for all. Party-goers also enjoyed the take home candy bar jars filled with Halloween festive sweets and watching episodes of the Munsters. Residents participated in the annual costume contest in four categories: The best witch, the best dressed duo, the most creative and the best overall costume. 1st place winners received a bottle of Korbel Champagne and a skeleton trophy, 2nd and 3rd place winners received bottles of wine. We hope you enjoyed the festivities!
Horticulture
Horticulture Classes are going well at Varenna. Our class attendance has increased from four residents to now an average of ten per class. Cecily de Guzman, Activity Assistant, has done a great job in creating fun & creative ideas. Next month, we will have a guest instructor teaching the class. Our own Heather Moore, Varenna Landscape Director will introduce Paperwhite bulbs. Paperwhites produce beautiful holiday blooms in December. Look in the weeklys to sign up for the next Horticulture class.

Attention residents with garden
beds down in our resident
gardens: please note that
November is a wonderful time
to plant a crop of winter
veggies. It’s time to say
goodbye to the tomatoes and
squashes and say hello to the
lettuces and beets! Winter is the
perfect time of year to plant all
of those leafy greens that are so
healthy for us. Crops such as
lettuce, spinach, arugula, chard,
kale, broccoli, cabbage, chives,
onions, radishes, carrots and
beets do fantastic here in our
mild Sonoma County winter. If
you need help removing your
summer plants and preparing
the soil in your bed, please feel
free to contact me via the
concierge desk. I’d be more
than happy to help you get all
ready for the winter planting. If
you’re not sure where to get
your veggie starts I recommend
Kings Nursery, Prickett’s
Nursery and/or Harmony Farm
Supply and Nursery. Not only
do these local nurseries carry
wonderful plant material, they
also have very knowledgeable
staff members there to assist
you. If you’re a new resident
and you’re interested in a
garden bed, please contact me
and I’ll get you all set up and
ready to plant. As of now we
only have a few garden beds
available so contact me as soon
as possible. I look forward to
hearing from you. Happy
planting!
~Heather Moore,
Varenna Landscape Director
Letter from Tammy
Dear Residents,
I want to remind you that as winter approaches, please be
aware of your surroundings. Rain and cold weather
brings possible falls from unseen standing water.
Don’t forget Daylight Savings is
this Sunday, Nov. 6th. Turn your
clocks back one hour on Saturday
night.
I want to also thank you for welcoming me as your
Interim Executive Director. Please don’t hesitate to stop
by and introduce yourself. I’d love to meet you.
Sincerely,
~ Tammy Moratto, Interim Executive Director
