Term 4 Issue 1 24 October 2019
Dear Parents / Carers Welcome back! It has been lovely to see all of our students return happy and well rested from the holidays, ready for the final busy term. Our school is very fortunate to enjoy the input and support from many of our families and community members, both in and out of the classroom. This support is always greatly appreciated in enriching the opportunities for our students and in creating a positive, inclusive culture for all. Thank you! I have a few reminders for you this week. Child Protection All classes will be participating in a mandatory child protection program this term as part of the PD/H/PE curriculum. These age appropriate lessons will deal with issues such as recognising and responding to safe and unsafe situations, developing positive relationships and growth and development. For the Stage 3 students, this includes naming and discussing body parts. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you would like more information about this curriculum. Intensive Swimming Scheme With the support of the P & C, our school will again be participating in the Department of Education’s Intensive Swimming Scheme later this term. These lessons will be available for all Year 2 students and may be offered to some students in Stages 2 and 3 who are unable to swim 25m in deep water unassisted. More information will be provided to families in Week 4.
Selective High School Placement Test – Year 2021 Selective high schools cater for the specific needs of high achieving gifted students. Parents apply when the student is in Year 5. The students sit the test in March of Year 6. Applications must be received by 11
November 2019. To be considered for placement, students must sit the Selective High School Placement Test. For information about applying and the placement process go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 TTFM Parent and Carer Survey – Closes Friday October 25 Many thanks to those parents and carers who have completed the Tell them From Me survey online. We would love to have even more complete this! Your feedback helps us to understand our school from your perspective to drive future planning. Please visit http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/hallidayspoint Congratulations! Well done to our debating girls who again convinced the adjudicator to rule in their favour on the strength of their arguments and rebuttals against Bulahdelah Central School last week. Our team is undefeated this season – a great achievement indeed. On a final note, I would like to congratulate Mrs Annette Barber and Mr Chris Simon on their substantive appointments through the Department of Education during the holidays. We can now welcome both teachers as permanent staff members of Hallidays Point Public School, and look forward to their continued valuable contributions to our wonderful school.
Have a great fortnight.
Kind Regards
Fiona Lewis Relieving Principal

PBL NEWS
Term 4 is already off to a flying start! The school is buzzing with excitement over events such as Hallidays Point's Got Talent, Year 6 Fun Day, School Captain nominations, K-2 Concert rehearsals and much much more! Throughout the excitement of it all, we continue to encourage positive behaviours and uphold our Learning, Caring and Sharing values. Our first PBL lesson taught students about the 'Waste Free Challenge' that is occurring every Tuesday this term. Students learned about food packaging and explored ways to reduce lunchbox waste.
Upcoming PBL lessons will focus on respectful relationships. Students will explore and communicate how to speak respectfully to others and the impact words and actions may have. Being caring and respectful to others is one of our school-wide expectations that we encourage in all settings.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
A big THANK YOU goes out to The Murray-Gill Family, who have supplied us with seating for our yarning circle in the garden. Yarning is an informal conversation that is culturally friendly and recognised by Aboriginal people as meaning to talk about something, someone or provide and receive information. Yarning Circles are designed to allow all students to have their say in a safe space without judgement.
During Week 1, Stage 2 students had the opportunity of welcoming Adrian Maligin into Science and Technology. Adrian spoke about the topic for this term ‘Energy’. Adrian brought a wealth of knowledge for Stage 2 students on renewable and non-renewable energy sources. It is so wonderful to welcome volunteers to our school who are also part of our parent body. Thank you for your time spent with us Mr.Maligin.
