    ==============================================================================Introduction[HL.02.01]==============================================================================

Half-Life 2 is the game I waited for ever since I played the original

Half-Life. Half-Life 2 (or HL2) features the best graphics seen on PC, greatmusic, terrific story etc. If you ask me, it's the best shooter made so far.

This guide is made thanks to IGN. We arranged a little deal, and this guideisIGN-only! So don't mail me about permission to add this guide to your site, the answer is no. This only counts for this guide, but please keep it inmind.

    From the official site:

"1998. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combinationof pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debuttitlewins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PCGame Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight millionretail units sold worldwide.

NOW. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens thedoor to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of bothfriends and enemies

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, itsresources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the

unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back atBlack Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

The intense, real-time gameplay of Half-Life 2 is made possible only bySource, Valve's new proprietary engine technology. Source provides majorenhancements in:

Characters - Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticatedin-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial "muscles," humancharacters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player

    5/40

with fluidity and intelligence.Physics - From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as theyobey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.Graphics - Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar tocreate movies such as Toy Story and Monster's, Inc., creates the mostbeautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.AI - Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can

assessthreats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is athand."

    ==============================================================================Weapons[HL.03.01]==============================================================================

A little note, the ammo will be wrote down as "Ammo in chamber/Max. ammo".

CrowbarAmmo: N/AHotkey: 1Description: This is the famous Half-Life weapon, although you won't use itall that much. You'll mainly using it to break stuff, and to keep Man Hacksaway from you.

Gravity GunAmmo: N/AHotkey: 1Description: The most fun gun in the game. You can play with gravity, bygrabbing objects, and putting them down, or just throwing them away. Theprimary attack button will shoot things away, the secondary attack buttonwill grab things. At the end of the game, you'll get a much stronger versionof the Gravity Gun, which'll be able to kill enemies and carry even heavierstuff. Sadly, you won't have it for long.

PistolAmmo: 18/150Hotkey: 2Description: You'll be using this gun the most until you get the SMG. It'sa pretty nice weapon anyway.

MagnumAmmo: 6/12Hotkey: 2Description: This weapon will blow your enemies away, literally. Most

enemieswill also die from one good shot with the Magnum.

Sub Machine Gun (SMG)Ammo: 45/225 + 3 GrenadesHotkey: 3Description: I won't make the Sarah Michelle Gellar joke again, see my Doom3guide for that. Instead, let me just tell you this is a pretty good gun,

  • 8/8/2019 Half-Life 2 Guide by Grawl

    6/40

which you'll get early in the game, and you'll love it for a while. Itshootspretty fast, so enemies will die faster too. The primary attack button firesthe SMG, and the secondary attack button fires a grenade.

    Pulse RifleAmmo: 30/60 + 3 Cores

Hotkey: 3Description: This is a quite a good gun, but it can't hold much ammo. Theprimary attack button will fire, the secondary will fire a core. The corewill take out large groups of enemies, but it's also possible to killyourself or allies with it.

ShotgunAmmo: 6/30Hotkey: 4Description: My favourite weapon from Doom 3 for it's power. This isn't Doom3 though, it's Half-Life 2. Still, this weapon is great for taking outenemies quickly. The primary attack button fires one shot, and the secondaryattack button fires two shots.

CrossbowAmmo: 1/10Hotkey: 4Description: The only weapon that has a zoom-function. Use it, because thisweapon is great for taking out enemies from a distance. The primary attackbutton will fire, and the secondary attack button will zoom in.

GrenadesAmmo: 5Hotkey: 5Description: Well, what to say? Don't wait too long, or you'll blow yourhandof, and be sure to actually throw the grenade, not just the pin. This is anice weapon if you need to take care of large groups of enemies, or when youfind a Combine behind a turret. The primary attack button will throw aGrenade, the secondary attack button will roll on.

RPGAmmo: 1/3Hotkey: 5Description: A Rocket Launcher. It's the only weapon that can take theGunships down. Also good for taking out big groups of enemies.

    PheropodAmmo: N/AHotkey: 6

Description: This "weapon" will summon Antlions, and let them attack foryou. You'll get it after the Antlion Warrior battle. The primary attack buttonwill throw the thing away, and the Antlion will go there, and kill anythingthey can find. The secondary attack button will call them back to you.

    ==============================================================================

Drones - Flying enemies, that come in various forms. Most of the time, theGravity Gun works fine against them.

Scanners - In the beginning of the game they might be harmless, after a

shorttime they'll become annoying machines that'll blind you and find you, so

    theCombines can easily spot you.

Man Hacks - These are updated version of the Scanners. Not only do they fly,but they also have a small blade spinning around, which isn't nice at all.Just keep slashing it with your Crowbar to take it down. The Gravity Gunalso works fine against them.

Drones - Flying things, that'll drop Hoppers down.Flashers - They are annoying little things. They'll move towards you, and

tryto blind you. If you just look away from them, you're fine though.

Civil Protection - The enemy you'll battle most. They are some sort of superhuman (ber-menschen (the army Hitler wanted to create back in WW2),perhaps?Who knows.), and are available in various tasted and smells.

Combines - These are the guards of City 17, and are the main enemythroughout

the game. They are dressed in black, and appear to be human, but who knows.Sometimes they are only equipped with a stun-stick, others are equipped

withheavy weapons. There are various of these Combines, ranging from the cityversion, to the prison version. Not enough difference to discuss, though.Combine Snipers - You'll notice them by the blue laser. Take them out bytossing a grenade in their hideout.Super Combines - White Combines, that are stronger than any other Combine

youencounter in the game. They are the only Combine that'll use the secondaryattack of the Pulse Rifle.

Headcrabs - The annoying enemies from the original Half-Life. Most will diefrom one hit with a Crowbar, though.

Headcrab - Annoying little creatures. They are small, and will jump at youas

soon as they see you.Black Headcrab - These Headcrabs are poisoned, and when they hit you, you'llget poisoned too. When you got hit, just stand still until the suit healed

you.Super Headcrab - They move faster, and can jump further. You can identifythem by their long legs.

Civil Protection Equipment - The vehicles and other unfriendly things theCombines will use against you.

Missile Tanks - These tanks will shoot missiles at you. Just keep moving andyou'll be fine. Fire at the missiles, so they'll miss you, when you reallyneed to.

    8/40

Helicopter - These guys are a pest, and they know it. They'll shoot at youwith a gun, but some will also drop mines. Take them down as soon as you'reable to.

Gunships - These are even more annoying than the Helicopters. They'll flyaround and shoot at you. Only the RPG can take them down. They require 6rockets before they go down.

Strider - Big creatures, that have long legs. You probably know them from

various Half-Life 2 screenshots or movies. They require 6 rockets, beforethey'll go down. This means you'll need to find one of those boxes withunlimited rockets in them.

Sentry Guns - Turrets you can just pick up, place somewhere, and they'llshoot the enemy. You can easily take them down with Gravity Gun, or bythrowing something towards them.

Pop-up Turrets - Once you touched the blue lasers, they'll pop up and startshooting at you. And they do quite some damage... The only way to destroythem is by rolling a Grenade inside their little hideout.

Zombies - Huuuuuuuuuuuuuh... that's the sound they make. Some are slow, othersare fast. Shoot them in the head, if you can.

Zombies - These poor guys got attacked by a Headcrab, and turned intoZombies. They'll throw things at you, so be sure to watch out. When theZombie died, the Headcrab might still live, so watch out.Leapers - These aren't your average Zombies, they are way faster, and areable to climb. Take them out with your Shotgun.Piggy Tail Zombies - Even stronger Zombies. These guys have a load of BlackHeadcrabs on them, and won't hesitate to throw them at you. Take it downquickly.

Mines - What needs to be said? Step on them, and get yourself killed.

Roller Mines - Strange enemies, and easy too. Pick them up with your GravityGun, and shoot them as far away as possible.Laser Mines - See the red beams? Don't touch them, because a mine willexplode if you do.Hopper - An advanced type of mine. They'll only attack enemies. However, ifyou pick them up with your Gravity Gun, and place them back on the ground, they'll work for you.

Antlions - A mix between an ant, and lion, as the name suggests. They justkeep coming, and coming, and coming.

Antlions - Like the name makes you suspect, this is a mix between a lion, and

an ant. They'll fly, and attack you. They'll keep coming, so move away fromthem.

Antlion Warrior - This is the advanced version of the Antlion. They'llsummonAntlions and rush at you, trying to hit you.

Barnacles - You should know these enemies from the first Half-Life. They justhang at the ceiling, with their tongue out of their mouth. As soon as theyfeel something touched their tongue, they'll slowly move the object towardstheir mouth and try to eat it.

    ==============================================================================Allies[HL.05.01]==============================================================================

Barney Calhoun - The security guard from the original Half-Life. Although yousaw many of his clones, in this game, there is only one Barney, and he seemsto remember you ("Hey Gordon, it's me, Barney, from Black Mesa"). Barneydressed up as Civil Protection (a Combine), but he's your friend, really.Dr. Isaac Kleiner - Another old friend from the original Half-Life. Thistime, there aren't clones, but just one Dr. Kleiner. He has a pet, Lamarr, and heseems to care more for her, than for his own life.Lamarr - The pet of Dr. Kleiner. It's a Headcrab, but harmless. It's not lessviolent though.Alyx Vance - The daughter of Eli Vance (more about him in a few seconds). Shehelps you in the game at various points, and see seems to be a better

    shooter

than most other allies (perhaps Grigori is even better at shooting). Also, many gamers have a crush on her. Losers.

Dr. Eli Vance - The father of Alyx Vance, as stated above. He has a strangeleg, but he's friendly, so don't worry. He and Dr. Kleiner invented theteleporter you'll be using a few times.

Dog - The pet of Alyx Vance. It's not a real dog, but a robot. It's extremelystrong, and eventually it'll even fight for you.

Dr. Judith Mossman - For the first part of the game, she's friendly. However, this'll change soon enough.

Father Grigori - You'll meet him in Ravenholm. He's a bit crazy, but he won'thurt you. He'll even help you by shooting at Zombies, and giving you aShotgun.

Rebels - They contain the most stupid A.I. of the game, but it's still betterthan nothing, right? You can take up to 4 with you, and they'll aid you byshooting enemies, and giving you health (the medics will do this,

obviously).Vortigaunts - They were enemies in the original Half-Life, but that's becausethey were slaves of Nihilanth. Since you saved them, by defeating Nihilanth, they are friendly now, and will even help you by powering you up, or

    poweringvehicles up.

    ==============================================================================Walkthrough[HL.06.01]=============================================================================

    =

Some hints and tips to get you started:* Remember to check out the controls. Some features won't be discussed

anywhere, so you might miss the zoom-function of the suit, for example(that's the Z-button, by the way).

    * Run, walk or crawl while shooting, that way you're harder to hit.* Save often, but not when you're low on health.* Even if I don't tell you to do things, you can still try them out. There's

nothing wrong with trying to talk to someone, unless I tell you not to do

  • 8/8/2019 Half-Life 2 Guide by Grawl

    10/40

so.* Reload your gun when you're not in battle to be sure you won't start the

next battle with just one bullet before you have to reload.* Aim for exploding barrels, because they'll blow things up, including

enemies that are near. Don't take cover behind one of these barrelsyourself, obviously. When Combines roll them towards you, shoot them beforethe barrels arrive.

    * If you need health, it's fine to go back a few rooms to get it. You get theidea? You can also do this for ammo, suit energy or whatever you want toget.

    * Most weapons (only the Crossbow) don't have a zoom-function. However, thereis a way around it. Zoom with your suit (Z-button), aim, go back to theoriginal view, and shoot. It's not a way to quickly snipe Combines down, but it works.

In the walkthrough, I'll add *Loading* quite a few times. This means the gamewill load a new area and you'll have to wait a few moments. Not only for thatreason I decided to add it, but it'll also make searching more easier. I'veseen Half-Life 2 guides, but they aren't really organised, so it can be hardto find the spot you need.Sometimes, in levels with a lot of walking, I won't describe every corner for

you. If you see an enemy, just shoot it. Don't let it attack you, justbecauseI didn't tell you to defend yourself. If I tell you to get from A to B, Iassume you're able to go there without too much trouble.

And the biggest note; THIS GUIDE CONTAINS SPOILERS! Don't use it if you don'twant the game to be spoiled for you.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapter 1: Point Insertion[HL.06.02]------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply youhave been sleeping on the job. No one is more deserving of a rest. And allthe effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well, let's justsay your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make allthe difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell theashes."

These are the first words you'll hear when you start a new game. A littlespeech by G-man, but I'm sure you don't understand it, at all. Don't worry, you'll figure it out sooner or later. Perhaps not, who knows.

You'll start in a train, and the man near the doors didn't see you get in.

Wait for the train to arrive, then leave it. You'll enter City 17, and thingsdon't look happy, do they? The things floating around are Scanners, and asyoumay have guessed, they'll scan you, and others.

Walk the path the others take too, and you'll see a Combine, which are thelocal guards. The Combine will tell the guy with the luggage to go away, andwhen the refuses, he'll start to beat the guy up. If you look on the otherside, you'll see a Vortigaunt. They used to be slaves that attacked you inthe first Half-Life, but they are friendly now. If you look up, you'll see

  • 8/8/2019 Half-Life 2 Guide by Grawl

    11/40

and hear Dr. Breen giving a speech about City 17. It's propaganda, so don'tlisten.

Follow the path, until you end up in a small encaged area. The doors willclose, and a Combine will tell you to follow him. He'll leave you in a roomwith another Combine, but as soon as the other Combine is gone, he'll take ofhis mask, and you'll see it's Barney. He works undercover for the Civil

Protection. After some chit-chat, you'll have to leave. He'll give you somedirections and close the door behind him.

Climb the ladder, and put a box in front of the windows that's open (use theE-button). Jump down and open the door.

    *Loading*

Enter the next door here, and find the Combine. He'll throw a can on thefloor, and tell you to pick it up. When you did that, he'll tell you to throwit in the trash can. You can do it, and get through, or don't listen, throwittowards him, and get beat up (and still get through). Take your pick. Dr.

Breenis giving another boring speech, but this one is a few minutes long. Followthe path and open the big door to open at the plaza.

Birds are flying around, you'll see a big building in front of you, and allaround you are Scanners and Combines. Can you taste the air that's filledwithdanger and fear? You can really only go one way, and that's right, into thealley. Climb the ladder here, and drop down at the other side of the gate.Follow the path again, and enter the open door.

    *Loading*

Open the door and follow the stairs, and you'll see how Combines kick in adoor and attack the person that lives there. Enter the various houses, andtalk to everyone. Everyone is afraid, angry or sad. Combines will enter thehouse, and as soon as you left the hallway, they'll start taking over therooms you just visited.

Go up the stairs, and enter the door. Suddenly, Combines will rush in andstart to beat everyone up. You'll be told to go to the roof, so just followthe path, up the stairs.

    *Loading*

You'll end up at the roof, and Combines will chase you, so keep running. There is only one path to go, so I suggest taking that one. Helicopters will

fly around, Combines will shoot at you, and total Ochoa rules the streets ofCity 17. Good job, Mr. Freeman. Enter the window that's open, and go downthe stairs.

Combines will come in and beat you. You'll faint, but Alyx Vance will savethe day. She'll help you up, and help you to find Dr. Klein's lab. Go downtheelevator, and just follow her.

    12/40

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapter 2: "A Red Letter Day"[HL.06.03]------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alyx will say it's funny you show up on that day. When people wanted to gettoher father's lab (Eli), they used to go through the sewers. They invented ateleporter though, which allows them to go there much easier. The sewers aredangerous. As dangerous as me, when I'm hungry and drunk. You get the point, right?

Follow Alyx, until you end up in the lab of Dr. Klein. He lost his pet,Lamarr, and doesn't seem to be interested in you. After he figures out hispetis lost, he'll suddenly see you, and be relieved. You'll hear various things, including cats (it's true), the teleportation technique and the suit. Barneywill come in, and open the chamber with the suit for you. Suddenly, a

Headcrabwill jump out. Don't worry, it's Lamarr, the pet of Dr. Klein. He won't hurtyou, but that doesn't mean he's less aggressive. And he's not a goodlistener, because he goes away through the ventilation shaft. Get into the suit, andyou'll be able to go to the teleporter, so you can go to Eli's lab. Beforeyouenter the next room, be sure to check out the mini-teleporter on the tablenear the entrance. Also charge your suit a bit by using the device on thewall. Enter the next room when you're done though.

From here, you should be teleported to Eli's Lab, but first Alyx will go.She'll stand on the platform, but as soon as everything gets launched, theplug will jump. Put it back in, then hit the switch to send Alyx away. She'llarrive without any problems, and it's your turn. You'll get teleported, butat the moment of teleportation, Lamarr will attack. If this ruins it all, orit was wrong from the beginning, we'll never now. Barney will show up, and throw the Crowbar down. The most favourite Half-Lifeweapon. You'll have to go to Eli's lab through the sewers, and yes, it'sstillas dangerous as me when I'm hungry and drunk, unfortunately. Break through

    thewood, and follow the path.

You'll see a Scanner, and this time it's not just an annoying flying thinganymore, but it's your enemy. That's right, hit it, and hit it hard. Hit ituntil it falls down and explodes. Go down yourself, and head left. Note youcan get hit now, so run, don't just walk. Enter the train, and smackeverything to pieces. Leave the train on the other side, but don't get runover by the next train that is just passing through. When that train is away, you'll be able to enter the next train. Great, people are mad at you, my room is a mess it's cold outside. Don'tworry, the last two are my own problems. You'll still have to deal with angryCombines though. Anyway, follow the path, and heal up if needed. Go aroundthecorner and save the couple from the evil Combines. You'll get a Pistol fordoing this (from a dead Combine, that is). Break open the entrance, and go upthe stairs. Kill the Combine, and keep going, until you are outside.

Kill the Combine here too, and find a way down. Wait for the train to stop, and you can get yourself to the other side. Watch out, because Combines willappear from the entrance you just took. If you shoot the barrel though, that

should give you enough time to turn around and break away the planks, so youcan enter the house. Well, what's left of that anyway. As long as you stayaway from the door and windows, you should be safe for now. Find the barrelsand shoot them. This will open a new entrance. Go there, and look at the bigtower. All those Scanners are coming for you. Isn't that nice? =)

Shoot the Combine on a higher platform (barrels are close, get the hint?),and open the supply chest. Open the door and follow the path. Just ignore theCombines, and jump over the fence, and follow the path. Crawl into the shaft. At the other end of the shaft, you'll be able to kill the Combines one byone, which is a bit easier than having to kill them all at the same time.Whenyou are down, come out of the shaft and jump down.

Follow the trail, and when you see a Combine, kill him, and take the way hecame from. Just run, and kill any Combines that's in your path. More Combineswill chase you, that's why. You'll have to break a barricade in order to getthrough, and after a short walk, you'll have to jump down. If you are in needfor health and other goodies, you can take them by entering the small area. However, keep in mind Combines are chasing you. When you are sick of theCombines, follow the trail, and go right when you can. This will active atrain to pass by and kill all the Combines. Harharhar... Jump down, swim abit, then climb up the ladder and enter the container. The man will talk abitand the Vortigaunt will give you some Suit Energy. Leave the container andbreak away the wood.

Break away even more wood, and follow the path. If you see a crow, look atit.A Barnacle will eat it. Yummy... If you follow the path, you'll hear somepeople screaming. No, they didn't scream because the way you look, someCombines are shooting at them. Rescue them, like Gordon Freeman would do!Takedown the Combines that aren't too far away, and enter the tunnel. You'll haveto kill more Combines here, but you'll end up in an abandoned station.

    14/40

Station 8 will call, but they'll realise this station is shut down. They'lltell station 12 is down too, and so are they, at the end of the message.Climbup the ladder, and shoot the barrel to get rid of the Combines. Mount theturret, and shoot at everything that looks nice to shoot at. Be sure to shootthe barrel at the right side. Once you shot everything down, missiles will be

shot at you, and at that point, it's a good time to leave, and take the rightpath. Follow it, and jump down.

Eventually you'll find a woman, who'll tell you to go on. Sure, as shewishes. When you enter the tunnel, and shoot the Combines above you, they'll move tothe next room. You should do so too. Yes, just jump in the water. Water isgood for you. It'll help you remove funny smells and whatnot. However, theCombines don't want you to take a bath, and will throw barrels down, includinga burning one. Dive, and wait until all the barrels exploded. A new entrancewill be open, so go there and follow it.

As you walk further, Combines will attack from here and there. Shoot themdown, until you see a bridge. When a few Combines decide to gather there,it'sa good time to shoot at the barrels that are beneath the bridge. GoodbyeCombines. Go there, but watch out for the 2 remaining Combines. You'll see ahill, and if you go there, and push the barrels away, you'll be able toenter. Go down, and head left. Here, you'll have to destroy the Barnacles inorder to get past. Grab a barrel that can explode, and throw it down. When aBarnacle grabs it, set it on fire, and it'll explode, which'll kill quite afew other Barnacles. You have 2 of these barrels, so go wild. When they arekilled, head down, and follow the path. Be sure to grab all the goodies.

Jump in the water, and find a floating piece of wood. From here, kill theCombines, and climb the ladder. Jump in the water again, and swim to theotherside. When Combines appear, shoot one of the barrels. This should kill alltheCombines, and you can just follow the path (watch out for a few barrelsthough). You'll end up in a new room.

This is your first puzzle, isn't it? Congratulations. If you feel liketalkingabout it, be sure to mail me. I'll love to mail back about these kind ofsubjects. Anyway, you'll have to put blocks on one part of the wood, so theother part lifts up. Not hard eh? This'll allow you to go up the platform,

andfind yourself in an outdoor area, with a Helicopter.

This part sucks. Well it's fun, but a bit hard if you don't know what to do.The helicopter will fire, and recharge. During the recharge, you'll have torun, and during the firing, you'll have to take cover. From where you are, you'll have to go left, follow the path and open the door that's blocked by afew barrels. You should cover about 3 times. You'll end up in a scarybuilding.

Just follow the path. You can find some goodies by following the water, butwhen you are done playing around, you can get serious. Once again, you'llfindramps, and Barnacles. Yes, also barrels that are able to explode. Get theidea? Good, because you'll need to do this 2 times. Each time, go down, andhead to the other side. You'll head up outside. When you are, run and goaround the corner.

Follow the path (and cut away things if needed), until you find a man. Hewillopen the door for you, and tell you the "guy they are looking for is a poorbastard". Does he even know who he's talking to? Adults these days... Anyway, when he wants to open the door, he'll find out Man Hacks are attacking him.Equip your Crowbar, and nail them down. When they are gone, follow the path.

You'll find more Man Hacks, and a few barricades. At the barricade with a fewbarrels. just make sure one barrel explode, so the Man Hacks won't even beable to bother you. You'll eventually be able to choose between 2 paths. Take

the last one for supplies, then go back and take the other one.

Kill the enemies here (Combines and Man Hacks), and enter the next room. Godown, and you'll see a Combine come down. Shoot him, plus the other 2 at theend of the hall for a SMG. Nice eh? You can skip this paragraph, and justheadto the end of the hall if you don't need supplies. Otherwise, read on. Gobackto the beginning of the room, and enter the shaft that's near the entrance.A Man Hack will attack, so watch out. You'll end up in a room with a fewgoodies. Go back to where the Combine came down, and find a hole you canenter. At the end if a Zombie, but also goodies, including Grenades. Now headto the end of the hall.

Dive in the water, and find the entrance. Follow it all the way, until youcango up. Jump to the other side and kill the enemies. WAlk over the pipe, andkill the Barnacles. Grab the goodies if you want, and continue to walk overthe pipe. Be sure to get rid of the Man Hack. Break the fence you see, andfollow the pipe for a few goodies. Go back after that, and find a place whereyou can dive down.

Swim to the other side, and go up. Kill the Combines in the distance, and besure the barrels explode before they even come close to you. Follow the pathnow, and run to the other side. Kill the Combines, and enter the hall. You'llsee a lot of Man Hacks, but a Grenade will take care of them. Open the doorat the end of the hall, where the Man Hacks used to be, and follow the path.

Grab the goodies, then enter the shaft and drop down.

This is an area full of Man Hacks. Really annoying. I just prefer to sit downin a corner with my Crowbar, but you can also make sure all the barrelsexplode. Whatever suits you, as long as the Man Hacks are gone. Climb up theladder, and walk over the pipes, so you end up at the platform that's higherthan the one you landed. Enter the next room, and go down using the pipes. This will make sure you'll find a wheel, which you can give a good spin, sothe water raises. When you did that, go back to the previous room, and killthe new Man Hacks. Drop down in the water, and swim to the other room. Get a

Just keep going, until you find a gate. Go back a bit, and find a place whereyou can walk (it's made of stone). Go up, kill the Combine, and enter thebuilding. Listen to the new speech of Dr. Breen about you. When you are done, enter the next few rooms, and be sure to kill everyone, and grab all thestuffyou need. If you keep opening doors, you'll end up outside again. Toss a

grenade to the Combine behind the turret, or just shoot him. Enter the nextbuilding, and kill everyone here. If you go left, and enter the door, you'llbe outside, on the other side of the gate. The wheel doesn't work, so that'snot the way to open the gate. The barrels are, because they'll triggersomething to fall towards the gate when they explode. When you did that, goback to the boat, and watch out for the new legion of Combines that enteredthe buildings. Follow the river again.

Eventually you'll end up in an area with a few buildings. Head right here, and find a door with a lock. Shoot the lock away, and enter the door. Inside, you're able to find a Magnum, and when you found it, 3 Combines will rush in.

Try the new weapon, I mean, why not? Enter the door, and it's time foranotherhelicopter chasing session. The goal is to enter the next building, and Ican't tell you much more. Take cover when needed, and be sure to kill theCombines too, if you encounter them. Enter the new building once you foundit, and don't worry, you can't get anywhere else, so you'll find it.

Inside are a few Man Hacks and Combines, so shoot them off. Go up the stairs, and jump over the containers to reach the other side of the room. In the nextroom, blow up the barricade, and keep going, until you are outside. Thechopper is still there, so run to safety. Find a ladder, and climb it to getyourself in a small tower. Kill the Combines, and use the turrets to destroythe helicopter. Use the panel to open the gate. Take your boat, and continueusing love. A new helicopter will appear, but this one will also drop mines.Enter the tunnel when you find it.

When you are outside of the tunnel, head left, and just keep going. Ignoreall the shooting etc., but focus on driving. When you see pipes, enter them, even although they don't offer much cover. The reason is, they'll lead to anew area, without any enemies, and if you keep going, you'll end up in atunnel. Keep going from there. Note you might be stuck at the point where youhave to navigate over a few pipes, instead of underneath them. Give it a fewtries, it's possible.

A bit back, you can find a ladder on the wall.If you climb it, and jump and walk a bit, you'll end up near some heavyobject. Push it down. It'll land in some kind of basket. Drop down yourself, and pull the level. This will lower the basket, and because it's to heavy, you'll create a ramp with some device. Ride to the other side, and you'llfind

    a station.

Leave, and after some talking and walking, the Vortigaunt will create a gunfor your boat. Grab the supplies you can find, and leave the station. Thankthem though, you don't want to be rude. Hide under the platform, and find acontainer. Inside are barrels, which you have to let explode. This will openthe door of the container, and you can take the boat, and follow the paththatway. Grab all you need, and go outside.Thereshould be one side of the building you didn't visit yet, so go there. Seethe dam? Walk there, and follow the path. You'll end up at a panel. Try to avoid fighting, and just find your way back to the buggy. You'll probably have to kill a few Antlions and Combines though. Take thebuggy to the bridge, and follow the trail. A train will appear on the otherside, but if you use turbo, you should be able to make it without gettinghit.Follow the path, and enter the tunnel to end this chapter.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapter 8: Sandtraps[HL.06.09]------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the tunnel, till you reach a bunch of cars. Leave the car, and enterthe area on the right for goodies. Go back in the car, drive a bit forth, andquickly go back. Quite a few Zombies will attack, so be ready for them. When

you're sure they're all gone, move the cars out of the way, and follow thetunnel again. If you see cars on the road ahead, go a bit right, and followthe path.

You can explore the houses for supplies, but once you reached the upperfloor,a few Rolling Mines will appear, so watch out for them. Get back to yourbuggyand keep going. You'll reach a barricade. Take out the Combines and RollingMines, and explore if you want. Go back in the buggy, and get past the

barricade, by just driving straight into it. Easy as that.

You'll end up at a small town that's blocked by a truck. Leave the buggy, andtake cover. A Dropship will arrive, and Combines will start to attack. Shootthem, and then it's hunting time. You'll need batteries to open the gate. Youcan find a few of them, but you only need 2. One is near the bed, one isunderneath a bathtub, and another one is on a plate, that you can see by

looking up. Shoot bricks at the plate, so it falls down. The battery willfall down too. Once the gate is open, go to your buggy, and continuedriving (you can pass the truck on the right side of it). Go through thetunnel.

You'll end up at a lighthouse. Good, good. Someone will try to get yourattention. Better listen then. Step out of your buggy, and listen to the man."Put the buggy in the garage". Great! Go back in the buggy, and do so. Wavethe buggy goodbye, because you won't use it anymore. If you want to talkaboutthis with me, because you feel bad and stuff, don't hesitate to mail me.

Anyway, Dropships will arrive and drop Combines. You'll have to survive theattack of 4 Dropships. After that, a Gunship will arrive. Enter thelighthouse, and find a box with rockets. Shoot the Gunship down, get newsupplies (yes, also health) if you need it.

Once the Gunship is destroyed, someone will take you down, and open a doorfor you. Take that path.

See how the Combines take away your buggy? Bastards! If you want to cry, sitdown, and do so. When you're over it, keep going. You'll find a man who sitson the rocks. He'll warn you not to step on the sand, because the Antlionswill appear when you do. However, his friend will move, and Antlions willappear. Kill them, and keep going. If you find supply-boxes on your way, justget them using your Gravity Gun. Don't bother with most of the boxes, sincethey'll be out of your reach. After a while, you'll reach a small puzzle. Onone side the a big wooden structure, is a box. If you remove it, you'll beable to continue, since the thing will move up. You can go 2 ways from here.

One of the paths will bring you to a shack. Go there for supplies. The otherwill bring you further, towards Nova Prospekt. After some jumping, you won'tfind any rocks anymore. Do you need to run through the sand? No, please don'tdo that. Grab 2 things you can stand on. Boxes, plates, whatever suits you.Place one in front of you, and step on it. Grab the other one, and step onthat one. Turn around, and place the previous object in front of you. It'lltake a while this way, but at least you're safe. You can explore the houses,

or just go straight ahead. Whatever you want.

Once you reached the other side of the beach, and go over the small hill, you'll see a lot of sand, and almost no objects. Just jump down, and you'llhave to battle a Antlion Warrior. No big deal. Just run around, keepstrafing, and shoot, shoot, shoot! He'll summon Antlions, but just ignore them. If youfocus on the Antlion Warrior, he'll be down real soon.

Killed it? Good. A Vortigaunt will appear, and will open the Antlion Warrior

With your army of Antlions, you'll be stronger than ever before. However, the

Antlions are afraid of the devices that'll stomp on the ground. You can turnthem off, and that way they'll keep following you. Just keep going, turningof devices, and kill Combines when you see them.

After a while, you can't go any further down the beach. You'll simply getshot. Look to the left, and you'll see a hill. If you follow that hill, youcan continue. You'll find a building, with a few Man hacks and Combines. Killthem, and leave the building on the other side. Keep going a bit further, andenter the bunker you see. Quite a few Combines will start to attack you, soshoot them off. Be sure the Antlions are helping you too. Once most of themare dead, head in that direction, and just follow the path.

If you see a big pipe, you're at the right place. Find a path here, and keep

following it. You'll find a camp, with 2 Zombies. Kill the zombies, and hitthe 2 wooden poles. This will create a little path for you, so just followit.Eventually you'll find a tunnel, with a Leaper inside. Enter the tunnel.

This is a tough area, so take care. Move slowly, and let the Antlions do thework for you. First, take out the Combines on the towers. After that, go upa level, and kill the Combines here. If you move further, a Gunship willappear. There is a crate with unlimited ammo waiting a bit further, and ifyoulet the Antlions do the distraction, you'll be able to make it. However, ifyou take too long, another Gunship will appear (it'll appear anyway, don'tgetme wrong), and you'll have to battle two of them. If you destroyed them, orif you're sick of it, find a crack in the wall. Open it up with a grenade orrocket, and go in. Spin the wheels to turn of the gas, and continue down thepath.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapter 9: Nova Prospekt[HL.06.10]------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Continue, and you'll see you're in a prison. Head down, and notice how theturrets will shoot your legion of Antlions. Find a whole in the wall, and gothrough it. Just watch out for the Headcrab. Destroy the turrets by using theGravity Gun against them (or blow stuff in the direction, so they'll fallover). Go up the stairs, and destroy more turrets. Note your Antlion friendswill join you.

Find a room with supplies, and a screen on the wall. You can switch betweencameras for various fun. Continue, and you'll find 2 rooms. They containsupplies, but also watch out for the turrets. Go to the next room.

If you keep going, you'll see Alyx. Yeeha! Go a bit further, and she'll joinyou. Finally, company. Well, human company, because the Antlions were prettynice, right? Just follow her, and you'll both end up in a room, where Alyxwill find her father. Watch the conversation, and she'll tell you to go on,onyour own again. Sure, whatever she wants.

Enter the door she opens. If you want supplies, enter the room left, butwatch out for the Headcrabs. Continue, and you'll find a gate that's closed.Alyx will open it for you though. Keep going, and you'll find an office, anda gate. Go to the gate, and Alyx will find out it's jammed. Head to theoffice, and blow the closets away. Enter the shaft, but watch out for the

    Headcrabs in there.

On the other side is an area with quite some Headcrabs. Kill them all, andwatch out for the Laser Mine underneath the shaft. Keep going (Alyx will openanother gate), killing Combines and destroying Turrets. You'll find a forcefield, and no visible plugs. Is that a problem? No. There are quite someGrenades here, so throw one in the room. This will unplug the cable, and youcan continue.

You'll end up in a room where Alyx will tell you you'll have to defendyourself. Set up the Turrets somewhere safe, and hide. You'll be attacked byCombines and Man Hacks. If a Turret falls over, just grab it and put it upagain.

After that, Alyx will appear, and she'll find out Mossman is a traitor. Alyxis pissed, and will tell you to hurry up. She'll disable the force fields, soyou can go there now. Go down the stairs, and you'll end up in a small roomwith a few Headcrabs. If you keep going, you'll enter a room with waterthat'sanything but safe to stand in. When you do, you'll get electrified, so becareful. Navigate using pipes, and when you can't seem to go any further, think back of the Sandtraps chapter. Yes, you can use the blue barrels toreach the other side of the room.

When you reached it, and enter the next room, you'll find a few Zombies. Kill

them all. You can find supplies here, but when you're done, head up thestairs you find. All the way up are supplies, but you'll able to able to finda door. Open it, and blow up the barricade.

In this room, go up and kill the Combines. Jump down, and it's time to defendyourself again. You'll have 3 Turrets. It's a bit based on luck, becausesometimes they'll throw a lot of grenades, and the other time none. Anyway, when you survived, Alyx will pop up. Follow her.

In the next room (open the door yourself, Alyx will follow YOU now, not theway around), the lights will go out, and Combines will attack. Shoot them, and follow Alyx again. Alyx will trap the room where Mossman is in, andyou'llboth head there. Don't worry, you're safe from Combines for now.

Once you are there, Alyx and Dr. Mossman will have a chat. Dr. Mossman is abitch, that's for sure. You'll enter the next room, and Alyx will find herfather. When she sends him through the teleporter, Dr. Mossman will quicklyjump in there too.

Not just that, Combines will attack too. Grab the turrets, and set them up.This attack isn't hard to survive, because Alyx will be shooting too. Whenthe teleporter is powered up, quickly enter it to leave this place. Note howthings blow up when you leave.

Just follow the path. If you want, you can jump on the green containers yousee, and use a box to get up a level. You can find supplies here. When youaredone, continue, and Dog will do his tricks. He'll throw with cars, jumparound and whatnot. Really fun to watch, and probably the best thing you'llsee in Half-Life 2. Anyway, he'll open a gate for you.

When you enter, a Dropship will appear, and Dog will take care of it.However,he'll fly away with the Dropship, so wave him goodbye. Go over the fence, andfollow the path. Recognise this place? You've been here in chapter 1. Walkover the rubbish you see.

them gently down). Do this too when you encounter them in the next areas, I'mnot going to point them all out. If you just keep going, you'll end up onthe streets. Don't worry about the Strider, but focus on the Combines on theother side. Follow the street, and you'll see an alley on the right. Go thatway. You'll end up in an area with a small house. Find a door you can enter,so you can continue.

You can take 2 paths here; up the stairs, for 2 Zombies and ammo for yourMagnum, and one that leads to the streets. Take the one to the streets whenyou're done playing around. Drones will fly around, so take care. See thefire? If you head there, you can find new members for your squad. If youlook around, you'll find a small alley. If you head there, you'll find anew room.

Explore it all for supplies, and eventually you should see a room below you, with turrets. Head there. From here, you can go outside, and have some funwith the Combines. They'll just keep coming though, so find a shop on theleft side of the street. From here, you can cross the broken street, and get

to the other side of it. Once you reached it, cross the street, and enterthe door. This will lead to a new building.

Find the stairs, and go down (up is only a turret). If you keep going, you'llend up in a room with 3 turrets. Be sure to destroy them quickly, becauseyoursquad members don't seem to be too smart when it comes to turrets. You canjump down here. However, watch your back, because a Zombie is behind you.Follow the hall.

You'll end up under a bridge, and you can find a few new members. As you walkunderneath the bridge, Man hacks will attack. Destroy them, and just keepgoing. You'll find a door, with a lock on the other side. Shoot the lock off,and continue. In the new area, you'll be attacked by even more Man hacks andCombines. If you reach the end of the tunnel, you'll find a member, who'llblow up the barricade. You'll need to defend yourself until this happens fromMan hacks and Combines. You have a turret to control though, but I doubtit'llbe of much use. Once you can go through, do so.

The man will tell you the door is locked from the other side. Perhaps you canfind another way. Sure, whatever. Gordon Freeman to the rescue. See the smallhole? Enter it. You'll end up in an area with quite some toxic stuff. Notjustthat, but Zombies too. You should know how to cross the place. Use your

Gravity Gun and the stuff around you. Once you reached the small platform inthe middle, quite some Zombies will attack. Just reach the end of the roomalive, and find a pipe. You can walk on it. From there, enter the shaft, anddrop down. You'll eventually find the door that was locked from the otherside. If you open it, the man will join you, so I guess it'll be a gooddecision. Continue your journey, by walking up the stairs.

drop down in your area. Inside are Super Headcrabs, so take them down. Ahyes, another member will join you. If you continue, you'll meet up with a member, who is on the other side of a gate. He'll alert the rest you are coming, andtell you to keep going. Do as he wishes.

If you enter the building, you'll get attacked from outside.I suggest to just

ignore the Combines for now, because they only cost ammo, and are hard to hitbecause of the jail-like windows. If you continue, you'll end up at the otherside of the gate the man talked from. From here, find the next door you canenter. Just continue (you can't get lost), and you'll end up at the otherside of a building, with a bridge that's closed (or is it open?). Someonewillopen it for you (or close it?), so you can go to the other side. Close it assoon as everyone reached the new building, because Combines will appear fromthe building you used to come from.

Once again, keep going (if you find this boring to read, imagine how it isforme to write) until you find a capsule. Not the one on the stairs, but one in

a normal room you can reach. Inside are Super Headcrabs and a Leaper Zombie. You can jump down, but watch out for the Leaper Zombie, that's on fire. It'ssafe for now ;p

Eventually you'll be outside again. Yea, sure, Combines and stuff. Just findthe building with rubbish in it. On the upper floor here are new members, andCombines, that'll attack from the other side of the bridge. I suggest to openthe bridge, to prevent them from throwing Grenades. Once you killed them, cross the bridge, and just keep going. This includes going down, and upagain,by using the stairs.

Guess what, you need to get going and find your way. You'll find a room withZombies and turrets. Wait for the turrets to shoot down the Zombies, then godown and destroy the turrets. Once you did this, Alyx will come in. Hooray!Note the health and suit chargers.

There is only one way to go, so I leave it up to you (note, it's the path youtake by leaving the room, taking a left and following the hall). Morechargersare here, but I doubt you'll need it. You'll find 2 doors, and Alyx will tellyou to open the other one. Inside are Super Combines, but they aren't as hardas they look.

Alyx will talk about generators. She'll take down the shields, you'll shoot

it with the Gravity Gun, and during the waiting, you'll have to protect her.Sure, why not? Head outside.

It's time to defend Alyx. Luckily, you should still have a small army ofrebels, so it's not that hard. Combines will come in from 2 sides, butthey'llalso send Man hacks. Move the Hoppers around if you want, but I prefer topickthem up, and throwing them away. Do what you want, but make sure both you andAlyx stay alive. When she revealed the core, shoot it with your Gravity Gun.

After this, Alyx will open the gate. Follow her.

Alyx will close the gate again, and look for a way around, since the bridgeisbroken. She ends up in the hands of the Combine, and tells you to run away.Jump down, grab the goodies, and find an entrance. Follow the path.

Jump down, and you'll end up in a room, where Man hacks will attack you.Destroy them, and climb the pipe (you may need to stack things up). You'llencounter more Man hacks, and a shaft. Enter the shaft, and enter the otherside of the room. Even more Man hacks are here, and 2 ways to go. The onewithdead rebels is the one you want to take for goodies. The other is the oneyou'll take if you want to continue.

Combines are shooting Zombies in this room. Kill them all, and head down.Onceagain, you can take 2 paths here. You can climb a ladder almost all the way

down, and find goodies. However, when you're done, find a double door, thatseems to be blocked. Open the door next to it. Watch out, because a BlackHeadcrab is inside. Use your Gravity Gun to remove the plank, which isblocking the door. You can now open the double door and continue.

In the next room, Combines will be shooting Zombies. Just toss a few Grenadesdown to take care of both. Don't go down yet, but follow the path. You'llfindgoodies (and Black Headcrabs) at the end. Go down after that, and find anentrance. Once again, there are 2 paths to take. If you just keep walking, you'll encounter a Piggy Tail Zombie, but also goodies. Climb the ladder whenyou're done playing. Just keep going until you end up in a room where nothingis heard. No music, no sounds...

Work your way up, over the catwalk. Someone will toss a Grenade down, andlucky for him, there are also explosive barrels near. The catwalk will bedestroyed. You can still get to the house you see though. I suggest doing so,unless you want to stay there forever. Patch yourself up, and pull the lever. The platform will come down, but you'll also get attacked by Combines whileyou're waiting. Once the platform arrived, pull the lever again, and stand onthe platform. Guess what, Combines will attack while you are riding the thingup.

Find a ladder, and climb it. After that, walk over the pipe. Once you are up,walk over the thing that carried you up (the yellow bar). You can get on thecatwalk, and find a ladder. The ladder leads to 2 levels. The upper onecontains goodies, and a few explosive barrels. The other one allows you to go

to the other side of the room, and jump down, onto some kind of balcony.Watchout for the hopper though. Continue to end this chapter.

You'll find a man, who'll tell you Snipers are up ahead. Yeeeeh! Don't welovethem? Open the door, and run, hide, run, hide etc. Once you can take a pathright, don't do so, but beware of the sniper that's shooting from there. Takedown the sniper that bugged you since the beginning with a Grenade. This isneeded to be done later anyway. Go back to the other path, and quickly find

    the door, and enter it.

Inside are Leapers and Headcrabs. Find a way down, into the water. Find aman, and he'll tell you the place is infested. Really? Take down the Zombies, andcontinue (ah, yes, kill those Leapers too). You can head up, on the roof ofthe building.

A Sniper will be shooting the Zombies down. Let him do his work, becauseit'llsave work for you. When he's done, throw a Grenade in his hideout. Boom!Thereis one Sniper left, behind Barney's hiding place. See the green cabinet? You

can use it as shield, because you won't reach Barney without it. Beware oftheBlack Headcrabs though. Once you reached Barney, take down the Sniper, andfollow Barney (I thought the chapter was about following Freeman, my bad!).He'll open the gate. Enter the building.

It's a bank, museum or whatever (those are hiswords, not mine). You can see it on the other side of the street. Lots ofCombines, eh? Continue, and a camera will spot you. From now on, I suggestrunning. Go down, and you'll be outside.

You'll be shot from above, with big lasers, that do quite some splash damage.Don't look down, look up! Get past the container, and find a door. Enter thebuilding. You're not safe, however, because inside are Combines. Kill them, patch yourself up, and open the door.

See the bunker ahead of you? Head there, and kill the Combine inside. Take amoment to breath, then run to the other side, and enter the building. Stillnot safe, because you'll find quite some Combines. Shoot them, then break thelock to safe the rebels. Once again, patch yourself up, and open the otherdoor.

It's time for a little fight. Take down all the Combines, and find a small

Keep going, and Barney will save a few new rebels. Find Pop-up Turrets, andtake them both down. Inside the room, you'll find a Generator. You shouldknow

how to destroy it. If you don't know, it's easy. Just fire at it with yourGravity Gun. From here, you can take 2 paths, each leading to a Generator.Take the path right from the first Generator first.

You'll end up in a room, and you'll be surrounded by Combines. Place theHoppers near the door, and protect yourself. There are enough goodies tosurvive. Once they are killed, you can take the door they destroyedthemselves. You'll end up at the second Generator. Destroy it.

Now go back to the first Generator, and take the other path. You'll find aroom with red lasers. When you touch them, turrets will start to shoot atyou. You can avoid touching them, by climbing the pipes and whatnot. There may be

one point you can't find anything to climb. Remember the beginning of theroom? Just imagine you are there, and look to the right. There were lasersthere. Reach the other side of them, and on that platform, with the lasers, you can climb. From there, you should be able to jump to the other side andcontinue. Find the switch, and touch it to disable the lasers. Barney willjoin you. Find the last Generator, and destroy it.

Go back to the main room, and kill the Combines that are rushing in. Afterthey are killed, follow Barney. He'll open a door, and tells you to gothrough. He'll stay there. Go up the stairs.

However,a new Strider will pop up, so be sure to first wait for it to pass. When youare sure it's safe, go out, and head up. Remember the bunker, and I told youto run to the next building? Find that building. Inside is health, androckets. It's a good time to start shooting. Take your time, because theStriders can damage you fast, and hard.

When you're out of ammo, head to the bunker. You can't find the unlimitedammohere, but there is enough ammo to take at least one Strider down. When you're

Wait for the Strider to destroy something, which'll allow you to go up another level. Walk over the bars, and find thestairs. There is unlimited ammo here, so take down the Strider. Kill the Combines, and come out of the hole. Go aroundthe corner, and take cover. Wait for the Strider to throw away some cars, thenrun underneath it, and jump in... right, the hole.

Things will blow up, and Combines will appear from everywhere. Shoot them alloff, then find a way out. From here, it's the same thing over and over again;kill Combines, continue, kill Combines. I'm sure you'll manage. Once youfounda dead end, wait for a while. Just shoot the Combines or something. After ashort while, the wall will get blown up, and you can continue. If youcontinue, you'll end up at some roof, with a box full of rockets. You knowwhat to do. Take down those Striders! If you need to recharge your suit, andneed health, head down the stairs. You can find rechargers on the wallnearby.

When the Striders are gone, go back to the roof (in case you weren't therealready), and find bars you can walk on. From there, you can jump down to thestreets. Do so. Barney, Dog and some other rebels will be battling Combines.Help them, and then Dog will open a new path for you. Head there, and walk

    down the tunnel.
