Perfect CombinationsIn vehicle tests the HaldexS-ABA Self-setting BrakeAdjuster was shown to work inperfect combination with otherbrake adjusters in the Haldexrange.
A Haldex S–ABA was fitted toone side of a vehicle’s axle,while an earlier version HaldexBrake Adjuster AA1 was fittedto the other side. No differencein clearance was measuredduring the tests which werecarried out under normaloperating conditions. Thisoffers benefits from a servicingand stock-keeping perspective:only one type of brake adjusterhas to be kept in stock.

Together, the Haldex S-ABAand Haldex Electronic LiningWear Sensor provide continuousinformation on brake liningwear. Wear data is available forthe entire service life of thelinings – from new to the timethey need replacing.

Haldex ClearancePrinciple Sets theStandardThe Haldex S-ABA is a clearancesensing brake adjusteroperating according to theclearance principle developedby Haldex – now widelyaccepted as a world standard forbrake adjuster operation.
The clearance principle ensuresthat Haldex Automatic brakeAdjusters are able to maintain aconstant clearance between thebrake lining and brake drum.
A constant clearance is possiblebecause the brake adjuster onlyreacts to a change in the clearancebetween the lining and the
drum. When the lining comesinto contact with the brakedrum, the adjusting mechanismdisengages.
Unlike stroke-sensing brakeadjusters, the S-ABA’s automaticadjustment is not affectedby the elasticity of the brakes orwhether the driver applies hisbrakes hard or gently.Clearence sensing adjustmentmeans optimal operation of thebrake adjuster and reduces therisk of both insufficient clearance,which can adversely affectbrake cooling, and overlongpiston strokes which could putofficial approval of the brakes indoubt.
Lightweight ChampionThe Haldex S-ABA is the mostlightweight brake adjusteravailable today – up to 20%lighter than others on themarket. On a regular tractor/trailor combination this couldmean a weight reduction of upto seven kilos.
Gradual AdjustmentEnables GreaterPrecisionThe Haldex S-ABA is designedto adjust gradually. Tests showit adjusts up to six times moregradually than other brakeadjusters on the market.
This means less risk of overadjustmentin connection withheat expansion of the brakeduring exceptional and prolongedbraking.
More Gradual by Far: Impressivegradual adjustment by the HaldexS-ABA compared with earlierHaldex Brake Adjusters and othercommon makes of automatic brakeadjusters.
It also means that less clearancecan be specified which resultsin a shorter piston stroke and inturn allows faster and saferbrake application. A shorterstroke also enables the vehicleto use compressed air moreefficiently.
The Haldex S-ABA requiresthe most number of brakeapplications to adjust theclearance in the brakes to anominal degree. This characteristicminimises the risk of overadjustmentduring long, hardbraking which can causeoverheated drums.
A Clear Winner: the HaldexS-ABA, a clearance-sensing brakeadjuster provides a uniformconstant distance between brakedrum and lining, unlike thestrokesensing brake adjuster– its clearance fluctuates withthe application force of the brakes.
