RETURN LEISURE CENTRE! RESTORE PUBLICFACILITY!

08/12/2012 Cloudy After building up, the developer through the help of some of the Bin Jiang District Construction Bureau, the Jiang Nan Kai Yuan Real Easter combined plan-ning public facilities in the River View Community with an old community, which is an old apartment merger built in the last century and next to the River View, named Zhi Jiang. Meanwhile, they sold out the leisure Centre (Hall), which planning a space for public facilities, to commercial use for the benefit of 200 pounds. How-ever, the facilities in the Zhi Jiang Community are quite old and shabby, they also not enough for some many residence in the two communities. People living in the River View Community had tried a lot of time to ask the Real Easter to return back their Leisure Center and install a Property Management Company for them. But, it doesn’t work. Yesterday, it was our tenth time to request the Hangzhou Jiang Nan New Century Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. to return our public facilities and accom-modate a Property Management Company for us. Since the year of 2005, our resi-dence community had appealed for so many times to government departments for the public facilities in our community, however, no one gave out their helping hand. So disappointed. But the city expanded so fast, the economic benefit already became the priority point, who would care about the problem caused by development.

09/12/2012 Rainy As the administrative areas for the whole city, the Bin Jiang Metro developed so fast. Since the year of 1997, the District was identified as the Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, So many world famous companies and factories flushed into the city. However, compared with the other part of Bin Jiang, the White Horse Lake eco-creative city, which is travelling city, the scene in the Bin Jiang seems more desolate: although economic is well developed in those years, but it lacks of popularity.

10/12/2012 Sunny An anxiety day. Mum’s birthday is coming, today, when I went the only big shopping mall in the city the “Avenue of Stars” to buy gift, I felt so disappointed about the goods. I even can’t find a better apartment for shopping. There are even not enough supermarkets nearby. So, I have to go to Hangzhou. However, the only way to g to Hangzhou is the four bridges. But they are so busy at the weekend. The traffic jam made me more headaches. Obverse, the development speed of pub-lic facilities have not catched up with the speed of high building construction. The day-to-day troubles are so annoying in the city. No matter the only one hospital far away or boiling social life in spare time, all caused a lot of complaining among citizens. No wander no people want to move into Bin Jiang.

15/12/2012 Sunny The long distance to markets had caused a lot of inconvenience for our resi-dence for a long time. Today, Mr. Lee, who is living in Block 3, told me that he feels nothing to do when his son and daughter go out for work, so he wanted to open a temporary stall to sale vegetable and meat, but there isn’t a structure to do it. As the president of the River View Residence Community Panel, I think I should encourage him to develop this business to kill time and meanwhile to service for our communi-ty. After discuss about this matter with other residence representatives to-day, one of the representative Kim, he promised that he can contribute a 10ft ship container for Mr. Lee. Kim is running an export-shipping-contain-er Transportation Company in Xiao Shan and owning lots of idle contain-ers.

22/12/2012 SUnny After one week preparing, the market stall finally open today. The fresh and cheap vegetables and meat attract all the residence to come. Those good were sold out in 1 hour. Everyone was so happy on his or her faces. So Mr. Lee was also pride about his idea and happy to answer people’s questions.

26/12/2012 Mr. Lee became so busy and popular now, I met him this afternoon on his way to check tomorrow’s goods. He told me the business of his stall was very good and the structure is stable and firm enough to provide a shelf for him, but the only problem is that he have to go back to home when he want to go to toilet. This point reminds me that the planned public toilet had already been transformed into a warehouse to storage some kind of tools. But a public toilet is really necessary for a living community. Perhaps, we can also use shipping container to build up a toilet.

29/12/2012 With agreement of all the representatives, we are going to build up a public toilet. This time, Kim still agreed to contribute another container, but for the other part of costing, it should depend on the donation from residences. Fortunately, for the eager of public facilities, people are all willing to take out their money to create a Residence Community Funding. And because my subject was architecture design in university, I was appointed as designer. Yi and Xia also had similar background, so we organized a design team for the public toilet.

25/01/2013 After the complete of public toilet, it gave much more convenience for Mr. Lee and other residences. Those days, there were some other proposals had been asked. So, within our Panel, we achieve an idea to create a community center that can provide all kinds different functions and facilities for our residences.

28/01/2013 After dinner, I start to conceive our community center. I think a lot about a case study during my MA in Sheffield—The Blue House. The Ijburg is also a new city without enough public facilities. At that time, the visual artist Jeanne and her team organized numerous activities and projects and created lots of legacies for the city. The project work as an agency for participants’ physical interaction which linking with people, ideas, knowledge and information, and provide people’s needs at the same time.

12/02/2013 The basic design conception about the community is that it is an elevated structure, the under space is for the market stalls or maybe other store potentially. The above is a shared space to unite some units that have different functions. The units is made of two containers, a 10ft one and 20ft one. The reused tyres un-derneath make the structure moveable. The detachable steels at the head of the container support the weight in the front and keep the balance of the structure. Additionally, we assume that the energy can be absorbed from solar energy on the roof.

19/02/2013 Since the initiate of community center “10ft+20ft”, almost all of the residences became volunteers to participant into the work of construction.

30/03/2013 The yard at the entrance became so popular in the evening. People came to the community center to participant lots kinds of programs. Now the frolic sound comes from the basketball playground echo in the community. Kids do not have to go far away to paly basketball and pay expensively.

05/04/2013 The bookshop, which partly gathers the unused books and DVDS from resi-dences, provides a platform for people to exchange their books and other materials.

12/04/2013 Today, we did a workshop about “How to Maintenance the Greens in River View” in the no2 container. There were more than 50 had participant into our dis-cussion, which more than 20 at last time. Fortunately, the space in the flexible structure can be expanded double. After the discussion, the panel accommodated a party for participants and residence.

PUBLIC PLATFORM

20/04/2013 Several of my classmates came to see me today, after the dinner at home, we went to the community center. In the elevated platform, we enjoyed the cool breeze, bright noon and chatting with each other to remember the life in our university. There were some neighborhood also host their guest on the platform, I introduced my friends to them and had a lively chatting. This is such a happy day.

BEAUTIFUL SQUARE

20/08/2013 Yesterday, my colleague borrowed two of spare shipping container units to a square called “Beautiful Square”, where in the gap between his community “ Golden Sea” and a new community “Spring Times”, because Property Management Com-pany in Golden Sea hold a festival about goods exchanging for a week. So, he also invited me to join in. In the festival, the container became an attraction. In this festival, I was got to know the background about the residential area that the public facilities in the area are good eqipmented; the people living the “Golden Sea” are almost locals while people in the “Spring Times” are all young families who work in the High-Tech industrial area but come from other cities. Although they all living a same residential area, but the relationship between the locals and young people are very alienated. The festival was mean to promote the connection between them. Our community center had running for nearly half a year, maybe it is time to expand this project and service for other communities now.

11/09/2013 The new structure for the goods-exchange festival had done. The idea was devel-oped from “10ft+20ft”, but we only use a 20ft container this time. The container is changeable. It can be opened if necessary or closed depend on situation. Sales can accommodate themselves into the block or every little unit. Those containers could have Different ways of combination. Except the duration of the festival, those fold-able units also can be used in various ways. The core purpose for our project is still to meet the need of residences, but more im-portantly is to create public space for exchange information, ideas, release pressure, to help people regain family life/social life and enrich people’s spiritual life. At the same time, take the project as an agency for the residents between the residence and the city.

10/11/2013 The Qian Jiang River Tidal Bore Festival is going to open as usually, it is the biggest festival in Binjiang, hurhands and thousands of people would come to see the tidal show in next week. But every year, the security problem is always the most headache issue for government, because in order to see the tidal more clearly, people always hand out the handrail and fail into the river carelessly. This year, the government also invited our residential community to participant the annual festival. Properly, the “10ft+20ft” can be used as watchtower, but I need so some change for the structure. Anyway, I hope the accidence wouldn’t happen again.

15/11/2013 Today, it is the first day of the Qian Jiang River Tidal Bore Festival, our new containers project works very effectively to solve the security problems. We also ask the “Beautiful Square” 10ft to join us. The different kind combination way of container cooperate with each other very well. The new structure just did a little it changes on “10ft+20ft”. We use the container as a walking tunnel to lead people goes up to a more good river view. Meanwhile, the stature is reusable, after the festival it is a good place to host the street sale and street artist to leave a precious heritage for our city.

31/12/2013 Today, the Bin Jiang Government conferred us as Outstanding Contribution Award because of our contribution to the Bin Jiang Public Facilities and relationships. The structure at the riverbank is decided to be built as permanent building. From the temporary to everlasting, our project took the role of AGENCY to connect people and events, translate information and exchange culture. Although we had got a happy ending, but the end is another begging, we are going to keep the project on and on…. everlasting
