An automated irrigation system was developed to
optimize water use for agricultural crops. The
system has a distributed wireless network of soil-
moisture and temperature sensors placed in the
root zone of the plants. In addition, a gateway
unit handles sensor information, triggers
actuators, and transmits data to a web application.
An algorithm was developed with threshold
values of temperature and soil moisture that was
programmed into a microcontroller-based
gateway to control water quantity. The system
was powered by photovoltaic panels and had a
duplex communication link based on a cellular-
Internet interface that allowed for data inspection
and irrigation scheduling to be programmed
through a web page.

Accelerometer based gesture recognition method
for Digit Recognition. Accelerometer based
gesture recognition is one of the widely
implemented method in the recognition scenario.
We have implemented a 3D input digital pen
which works on tri-axial accelerometer to
sense human gesture. This digital pen
embedded with tri-axial accelerometer,
microcontroller, RF wireless transmitter module.
The tri-axial accelerometer measure acceleration
signal along the entire 3 axis. Accelerated signal
process through microcontroller and serially
transmitted through RF transmitter which can be
received at remote place RF receiver. With the
help of MATLAB tool feature vector are
generated from received accelerated signal using
zero crossing detector & range to recognize

System for Foot
Neuropathy with ECG
recorder.
A patient monitor may not only alert care givers
to potentially Life-threatening events; many
provide physiologic input data used to control
directly connected life-support devices. Foot
Neuropathy is a serious medical disorder and can
be prevented by the early detection of abnormal
pressure patterns under the foot. By a sending
imperceptible vibration through the feet of
Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients significantly
improves the damaged nerves and stimulates
blood flow. In this we collect ECG, Temperature
and foot neuropathy sensors data from patient and
send it through RF to PC. In PC there is Visual
basic application in that we show the ECG graph
and other sensors data.

5 An innovative non-

assistance system for
vital signal monitoring.

This project describes an in-vehicle non–intrusive
bio-potential measurement system for driver
health monitoring & fatigue detection. Previous
research has found that the physiological signals
including eye features, (ECG),
Electroencephalography (EEG) and their
secondary parameters such as HR and HRV are
good indicators of health state as well as driver
fatigue. A conventional bio- potential
measurement system requires the electrodes to be
in contact with human body. This not only
interferes with the driver operation, but also is not
feasible for long-term monitoring purpose. The
driver assistance system in this paper can
remotely detect the bio-potential signals with no

6 Portable camera-based
assistive text and product
label reading from hand-
held objects for blind

In this project, we propose a camera-based
assistive text reading framework to help blind
persons read text labels and product packaging
from hand-held objects in their daily lives. To
isolate the object from cluttered backgrounds or
other surrounding objects in the camera view, we
first propose an efficient and effective motion-
based method to define a region of interest (ROI)
in the video by asking the user to shake the
object. This method extracts moving object
region by a mixture-of-Gaussians-based
background sub-traction method. In the extracted
ROI, text localization and recognition are
conducted to acquire text information. To
automatically localize the text regions from the
object ROI, we propose a novel text localization
algorithm by learning gradient features of stroke
orientations and distributions of edge pixels in an
Adaboost model.

The proportion of air pollution which is caused by
the cars is increasing. In this project, a wireless
inspection and notification system (WINS)
through the concept of 0Internet of Things (IoT)
is proposed. By applying the system, it is possible
to smoothly realize a green traffic network. In this
system, Radio frequency identification (RFID)
technology as a low-cost and mature wireless
communication method is adopted to collect and
transmit emissions information of vehicles. The
RFID devices need to be installed on the traffic
lights so that reliable reading of emissions signals
from a vehicle can be interrogated when the
vehicles stop in front of the red light.)

positioning and environment perception system
for generic objects based on multiple surveillance

driving, our system detects the vehicle’s position

infrastructural system which communicates with
the autonomously driving car has to be precise,
reliable and real-time capable. If an object crosses
the path of the vehicle, the system has to raise a
warning to avoid a collision. Because arbitrary
objects (e.g., other vehicles, small / tall humans,
bicycles, or animals) should be recognized by the
system, size and shape constraints are ignored.

We design and realize a low power AMT
acquisition network based on Zigbee, GPS and
ARM based embedded control system. Each
AMT acquisition unit is composed of power
supply module, GPS module, ARM module, and
data acquisition module. The power supply
module is controlled by the GPIO of the Zigbee
Pro module. Power supply for GPS module,
ARM module, data acquisition module, and
induction coils can be switched on or off remotely
by Zigbee network. The GPS module offers
clocks and timing signals for the data acquisition
module.

human targets is a task of recognized importance
and difficulty. In this paper, we describe a
position measurement technique based on 0the
fusion of various sensor data collected using a
wearable embedded platform. Since the
accumulated measurement uncertainty affecting
inertial data [especially due to the on-board
accelerometer] usually makes the measured
position values drift away quickly, a heuristic
approach is used to keep velocity estimation
uncertainty in the order of a few percent.

configurable functionality with low-power

Various fall-detection solutions have been
previously proposed to create a reliable
surveillance system for elderly people with high
requirements on accuracy, sensitivity and
specificity. In this paper, an enhanced fall
detection system is proposed for elderly person
monitoring that is based on smart sensors worn on
the body and operating through consumer home
networks. With treble thresholds, accidental falls
can be detected in the home healthcare
environment. By utilizing information gathered
from an accelerometer, cardio tachometer and
smart sensors, the impacts of falls can be logged
and distinguished from normal daily activities.)

In order to improve the way of data collection and
workflow of vital signs measurement in hospital,
this paper proposed a Tablet PC based vital signs
data collection and information system. This
system comprises a database server, Tablet PC,
and wireless devices such as blood pressure
monitor, infrared thermometer and barcode
scanner. The Tablet PC and wireless devices are
put on a cart to serve as a mobile nursing
information system unit. All of the devices have
Bluetooth interface, therefore they can
communicate with the Tablet PC via Bluetooth.

An algorithmic framework is proposed to process
acceleration and surface electromyography
(SEMG) signals for gesture recognition. It
includes a novel segmentation scheme, a score-
based sensor fusion scheme, and two new
features. A Bayes linear classifier and an
improved dynamic time-warping algorithm are
utilized in the framework. In addition, a prototype
system, including a wearable gesture sensing
device [embedded with a three-axis accelerometer
and four SEMG sensors] and an application
program with the proposed algorithmic
framework for a mobile phone, is developed to
realize gesture-based real-time interaction.)

This project presents a simple and efficient
capacitive sensing system suitable for detecting
presence of a child in an infant car seat. It also
details a warning system that alarms the parents
once a child is found to be left alone in a car.
Infant seat with child is, usually, kept (safely) in
the rear seat. Driver and passengers, in some
situations, may leave the car without taking
[forgetting] the child. When a car is turned-off
[windows closed] temperature inside it will
increase rapidly and can be life threatening as the
thermoregulatory system of child is weak. Such
incidents have been reported worldwide.

This project presents a child activity recognition
approach using a single 3-axis accelerometer and
a barometric pressure sensor worn on a waist of
the body to prevent child accidents such as
unintentional injuries at home. Labeled
accelerometer data are collected from children of
both sexes up to the age of 16 to 29 months. To
recognize daily activities, mean, standard
deviation, and slope of time-domain features are
calculated over sliding windows.

System. (IEEE 2013) PIR sensors are placed on the ceiling, and the
ultrasonic sensor module consists of a transmitter
and a receiver which are placed in a line
direction. We use two groups of the external
hardware circuits, the PIR and the ultrasonic
sensor group. As the PIR sensor produces a weak
voltage, we input the sensed signal to a two-stage
OP amplifier to amplify the weak voltage by
about 1000 times. Since the amplified signal
changes between positive and negative voltage,
we input this signal to the absolute value circuit,
and then we input it to the adjustable comparator
to compare the sensing voltage and the reference
voltage which are set according to the
environment temperature.

The monitoring system consists of a number of
intelligent wireless sensor nodes that are
distributed in the observed environment. The
sensor nodes are connected to an Internet-enabled
computer system, which is installed on site for
disseminating relevant soil information and

system. Autonomous software programs, labeled
“mobile software agents”, are embedded into the
wireless sensor nodes to continuously analyze the
soil parameters and to autonomously trigger
irrigation events based on the actual soil
conditions and on weather data integrated from
external sources.

system for Unmanned Ground Vehicles using
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET). VANET
is a perfect option for vehicle to vehicle
communication to share the Information with
each other. An Information Control Unit will be
attached in-built with all unmanned ground
vehicles to share the information. An Information
Control unit consists of front and rear Radar
Radio Detection and Ranging, Event Data
Recorder, GPS, Sensor, and a communication
system. When a failure detected in an Unmanned
Ground vehicle due to the enemy attack, the
tactical information will be shared with the
neighbored UGVs among the VANET about the
status of failed UGV. The damaged UGV will be
replaced immediately with the neighbor to fill up
the gap using the Tactical information shared
using the Wireless Application for Vehicle
Environment SMS protocol. This information is
used to avoid collision also during fog.

This project presents an electronic navigation
system for visually imp aired and blind
people. This system understands obstacles around
the subject up to 500 cm in front, left and right
direction using a network of ultrasonic sensors. It
effectively calculates distance of the detected
object from the subject and prepares navigation
path accordingly avoiding obstacles. It uses
speech feedback to aware the subject about the
detected obstacle and its distance. This proposed
system uses microcontroller based embedded
system to process real time data collected using
ultrasonic sensor network. Based on direction and
distance of detected obstacle, relevant pre-
recorded speech message stored in voice flash
memory is invoked. Such speech messages are
conveyed to the subject using earphone.

In this project we propose a bus system using
WSNs. The blind people in the bus station are
provided with a Zigbee unit which is recognized
by the Zigbee in the bus and the indication is
made in the bus that the blind people is present in
the station. So the bus stops at the particular
station. The desired bus that the blind want to
take is notified to him with the help of speech
recognition system. The blind gives the input
about the place he has to reach using microphones
and the voice recognition system recognizes it
.The input is then analyzed by the microcontroller
which generates the bus numbers corresponding
to the location provided by the blind. These bus
numbers are converted into audio output using the
voice synthesizer. The Zigbee transceiver in the
bus sends the bus number to the transceiver with
the blind and the bus number is announced to the
blind through the headphones. The blind takes the
right bus parked in front of him and when the

In this paper, a real-time Human-Computer
Interaction based on the hand data glove gesture
recognition is proposed. This paper presents a
wearable prototype model for Hand gesture
recognition system using MEMS which is capable
of recognizing eight hand gesture, based on the
signal from 3-axes MEMS accelerometer. The
accelerations of a hand motion in three
perpendicular directions are detected by
accelerometers and acceleration values were
transmitted to microcontroller. An automatic
gesture recognition algorithm is developed to
identify individual gestures in a sequence.
Finally, the gesture is recognized by comparing
the acceleration values with the stored templates.
According to recognized gestures, respective
commands are performed.

Normally, image scan is done with a CCD
overlaid with a photoactive layer of silicon. When
light strikes the sensor array, the CCD shifts
charge through stages of capacitors into a charge
amplifier, which in turn converts the charge to a
voltage signal. Repeating this process creates a
digitizable signal that the scanner stores into
memory to create an image. Our goal for this
project was to explore the concept of using an
array of phototransistors to replace the function of
the photoactive silicon layer. We built an array of
phototransistors and attached them to an X-Y
plotter so that they could scan a large area. Light
signal detected by phototransistors is captured by
the Mega644 A/D converter and then transmitted
to MATLAB using a serial connection.

power controller, to control the power delivered

as close to the tip as possible. A controller circuit

we decrease the temperature. When the person

wearing helmet or not through limit switch. When
the person wear helmet limit switch pressed then

alcohol detecting sensor. If bike rider is drunk
then alcohol sensor detects then microcontroller

side RF receive that data and it takes action i.e.

addresses to the instructor's mobile telephone;
presence of the student can be confirmed.

ultrasonic gloves. The ultrasonic gloves are
built upon the original design of the pinch

orientation data to construct virtual models. We
also map the distance data to create a set of affine

lack of security features, this project proposes a
common software interface, which makes use of
wirelessly browsing of the remote data, provides
the authorized access mechanism based on secure
access control, and achieves classification access
of the remote data. For this purpose we make use
of combination of Touch screen, graphics LCD
and a Pen drive. Here the user has to enter the
password via touch screen. If the password
matches then the access to the remote terminal is
granted. After that through a wireless RF link the
hand held device can start receiving the data from
the remote terminal. This data can be viewed on
the graphics LCD. Also we can store the data on
Pen drive in text file format (.txt). The user can
then see the data on Pen drive for further analysis.
The data logger unit has all the sensors and the
RF transmitter.

The aged are faced with increasing risk for falls.
The aged have the easily fragile bones than
others. When falls have occurred, it is important
to detect this emergency state because such
events often lead to more serious illness or even
death. An implementation of PDA system, for
detection of emergency situation, was developed
using 3-axis accelerometer in this paper as
follows. The signals were acquired from the 3-
axis accelerometer, and then transmitted to the
PDA through Bluetooth module. This system can
classify the human activity, and also detect the
emergency state like falls. When the fall occurs,
the system generates the alarm on the PDA. If a
subject does not respond to the alarm, the system
determines whether the current situation is an
emergency state or not, and then sends some
information to the emergency center in the case of
urgent situation.

corresponding controllers will control the voltage
and the current to a level which is ideal for the
proper battery charging. Then the final section is
the battery to be charged. After battery charging

In this project we are using the accelerometer.
This has the micro controller interface as shown
in the block diagram below. Initially the user
has to mount the same on his head, when the
user moves the head front the mouse pointer
will move up and if he gets his head in the
normal position it will stop and similarly if he
moves the head backwards the mouse pointer
will move down and when he moves left and
right the pointer will move in the left and right
directions respectively. This data is then
decoded by the micro controller and will send
the data in the wireless mode using the RF TX.
At the other end the RF RX will read the data
and then the micro controller will drive the
mouse using the controller, which is connected
to the USB port of the PC.

Based on the above mentioned idea, our system
will work as follows. A camera will be mounted
on the each lane of the signal on a junction.
Camera will feed the video to a pc. A matlab
based digital image processing will be done on

traffic. If traffic will be found more on that
particular lane using image processing ,that signal
will be given to a microcontroller.
Microcontroller will increase the on time of the
green light on that signal. Acting as a social
insect (using swarm intelligence) traffic signal
will send command to its previous junction using
wireless technology. On the previous junction,
traffic signal will divert traffic in alternate
direction. Also Traffic signal will reduce the
amount of traffic going on the next signal by
reducing the on time of green light.

Autonomous Vehicle.
We have used ARM7 as a base device. GPS,
GSM module, MMA7660FC and RFID tag is
connected with serial port of the controller.
Whenever vehicle meets with an accident the
MMA7660FC triggers the embedded module for
rescue operation. Embedded module gets area
information from GPS receiver module and the
alert information is sent through the GSM
module. GPS receiver gets area information on
the road unit. In addition to embedded module
one special RFID Tag is placed inside vehicle to
transmit vehicle information. In the traffic signal
management system RFID reader and display
informer unit are connected with serial port of the
microcontroller. If vehicle insurance, pollution
test, FC is not proper, the alert system will
produce beep sound and vehicle number is
displayed. Then the traffic police can easily alert
the driver / owner. Traffic signal is managed by
counting the number of vehicles crossing the
reader area in a particular time interval. Here the
data collected by the antennas are given to the
reader via multiplexer switch. This method will
save RFID reader usage and money. By this we
can manage the traffic intelligently.

There is one MSEB vehicle in that have a RF
receiver that take readings from all energy meters
that are fix in each house. In each meter we are
connecting a microcontroller, RF module. The
microcontroller taking continuous reading from
energy meter and microcontroller transmit that
meter reading and Meter ID continuously with the
help of RF transmitter. As the MSEB vehicle is
going through that RF transmitter range then the
RF transmit current meter reading to MSEB
vehicle’s RF. MSEB vehicle RF receive that
reading with and send to microcontroller then
there is one option for saving of all meter reading.
These readings are uploaded to internet with the
help of GPRS.

help handicap patient due to accident and
diseases. Typically, human hand motion can be
broadly divided into two categories as either
voluntary or involuntary. The former is

while the latter is unintentional movement. An
example of involuntary hand motion is the small
vibration in a person’s hand when trying to keep
his / her hand still, due to small imperfections in
the human body’s biomechanical feedback

dopamine in a group of brain structures that
control the movements. Its major manifestations
are variable but can include hand tremor,
slowness of movements, limb stiffness, and
