Shore Life

The shore is the area where the open ocean meets the land. This is also called the beach or the coast. Animals living in the shore environment have to be able to live in a place that is always changing. They have to be able to live on rocky surfaces or sandy ones, and most importantly they have to be able to survive in and out of the water. Shore animals all have special adaptations that help them to survive.

Open Ocean

The open sea habitat is the part of the ocean where no land is in sight. Only the very top layer gets any sunlight. The rest of the deep, deep water is in darkness. Water is harder to move through than air. Sea animals' bodies help them move through the water. Also, the temperature of the open ocean can get very cold, so most animals that live there are cold-blooded. They need to save energy just to keep warm. All sea creatures need adaptations like gills or blowholes to help them breathe in a place with no air.
