Habakkuk’s 1st Question (Why is God not listening?)

How long, O Lord, must I call for help,

But you did not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!”But you did not save? Why do you make me look at

injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong?Destructions and violence are before me:- conflicts and strife abound

God’s Answer to Habakkuk’s Complaint

V.1-5: Look at all the nations and watch and be utterly amazed for I am going to do something in your days/lifetime

Look at me now: I am raising up all the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, to help solve your problem.

Page 5: Habakkuk

- The Babylonians are fast, very fast.- They sweep across the whole earth to

seize dwelling places no their own.- They are fearless.- Their horses are swifter than leopards,

fiercer than wolves at dusk.

And God seemed to ask, “ Any more questions, Habakkuk? Do you feel that the Babylonians will sufficiently take care of the people of Judah?

Page 6: Habakkuk

Habakkuk’s 2nd Question(God’s plan to utilize the Babylonian army?)

God’s Sovereignty

God’s Holiness

Page 7: Habakkuk

God’s Chosen People Are Currently Numerous and Helpless- like a school of fish with no leaders you have made men (Judah) like fish in the sea, like sea creatures without rulers

The Babylonians are destructive – and with Judah being like a school of fish, the Babylonians will use hooks and dragnets.

Babylonians’ Ambition Rejoices and is Glad- most fisherman catch fish for the joy of pulling that fish in.

Chapter 2: The Lord Answers Babylon will be destroyedRevelation waits its appointed timeIt speaks of the endIt will be proven right at the endIt may seem long but it will come… not delayed, but on time.v.4-9: Wine destroys him

Arrogant never restGreedy as the grave, death’s never satisfied

Gathers himself all the nationAll of them taunted him with ridicule and scorn

Page 9: Habakkuk

V.4- “But the righteous will live by the faith”, but Babylon will be eliminated and God will restore for all the sin committed

Paul said in Romans 12- Do not repay anyone with evil. “It is mine to avenge,” said the Lord/ Vengeance belongs to the Lord. If you feel it is not fair leave it to the Lord.

V.20-But the Lord is in His holy temple;Let all the earth be silent before Him.

I will put my faith in the Lord’s sovereignty

“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes in the vines Though the olive crop fails

and produce no foodThough there are no sheep in the pen

and no cattle in the stalls

Yet I will still rejoice in the Lord I will be joyful in God my Savior
