There will be a contest between clubs as to which club brings in the most cakes. Please contact your club leader to sign up for kitchen dues that your club has been assigned. Tickets and money from cket sales need to be turned in to your key leader by Thursday, February 19, so determinaon of meat needed can be made. Remember to SELL, SELL, SELL! Money generated from this acvity goes to the 4-H Council, which provides the year’s operang funds for the Glenn County 4-H program. This year we are once again having the silent aucon and donaon of prizes is welcomed. Donaons can be anything from giſt baskets, t-shirts, hats or giſt cerficates. Please drop items off at the Cooperave Extension Office, 821 E. South Street, Orland. Aenon 4-H Sheep, Hog, and Goat Leaders The ear tags are ready for pick-up. They can be checked out from the fair office, please call first before you drop by and pick them up. Applicaons must consist of applicaon, treatment authorizaon form, code of conduct form, emergency contact form, and a child release and a leer of recommendaon. Mark your calendars for the Camp Planning meengs. If you are selected as a counselor, you must aend four out of the six meengs. Don’t forget to schedule your interview when you turn in the applicaon. Next Council Meeting The next Council Meeting will be Monday, February 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office. We encourage all leaders and members (6th grade and above) to take an active part as you are voting members.

Facility Use Agreements Want to use the Cooperative Extension Office for your next meeting? Give us a call or come in and sign up on the calendar. It is important that you give your project name, leader name, phone number and duration of meeting.

Need to use another facility? Please complete the Facility Use Request Form available here: http://ceglenn.ucanr.edu/files/198911.pdf and return to the Cooperative Extension Office at least two weeks prior to the proposed meeting date to allow time to make these arrangements.

University policy requires that facilities are contracted and signed by our County Director ONLY and that all liability requirements are met. You can contact Jamie Marron at 865-1100 or via email at [email protected].

Project Meetings at the Fairgrounds When having project meetings at the Fairgrounds, it is important that you bring a completed facility use request form to the Cooperative Extension Office 14 days prior to your project meeting.

Don’t Forget to Complete Fundraiser Forms It is important that fundraiser forms are completed and turned in at the UCCE Office for approval at least 2 weeks prior to your event to ensure we are following state policy and are able to receive approval of our County Director. The office will email the fundraiser form with the completed signatures if approved.

All Star Applications will be available soon! Will you be a 10th grader or above next school year? Have you earned your gold star? Do you like working with younger members as well as adults? Then perhaps you might want to consider applying to be a 2014-2015 Glenn County 4-H All Star. Application packets will be ready soon. Be on the look out for a 4-H News Flash for more information. Applications will be due by Thursday, March 19, 2015 and interviews will be held in April.

BLAST Team Applications are coming! If you are 8th grade or above and would like to help the Glenn County 4-H All Star Team in 2014-2015, then you should consider applying to be a 2014-2015 Glenn County 4-H BLAST member. Application packets will be available soon. The applications will be due Thursday, March 19, 2015 and interviews will be held in April.

Jr. Teen Leader Merit Award

The applications are ready for the Jr./Teen Leader Merit Award. Applications are due Thursday, March 19, in the Cooperative Extension Office. The winners of this award receive paid registration to the State Leadership Conference at UC Irvine, July 23 - 26, 2015. Please call the Cooperative Extension Office, print from the website or come by to get your copy. Interviews will be held in April.

Need Whites? Come to the UCCE Office to exchange your whites for the new size that fits. You are welcome to come try whites on. Come by early before fair to get your size. The UCCE Office also sells the 4-H apparel as well by cash or check only. 4-H Hats - $15.00,Ties - $14.00, Scarves - $16.00.

Rocketry Project The Countywide Rocketry project meeting will take place at the UCCE Office on February 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.

4-H ABA Results Approximately 65 Glenn County 4-H members participated in the annual Anything But Animals Judging Field Day held Saturday, January 24. Marcia Sanchez, Schaffert 4-H Club, chaired the event. Those assisting throughout the day were: Michelle Allen, Gianna Machado, Jessica Lloyd, Melissa Cloyd, Ken Sanchez and youth members assisting were Rocco Becerra, Tatum Allen, Mckinzee Allen, Gracie Machado, Jillian Drake, Melinda Lowe, Riley Cloyd, Hannah Cloyd, Gracie Cloyd and Shelby Lloyd. All primary members (5-8 years old) received participation ribbons. They were: Xiomara Gonzalez and Xitlali Gonzalez of Capay 4-H Club, Haylee Johnson, Aubree Eddy, Emma Thomas, Lily Wetz, and Rachel Kurth of Lake 4-H Club; Gracie Cloyd, and Kayleigh Padgett of Schaffert 4-H Club, Farrah Bassetti of Willows 4-H Club; and Cheryl Burrows of

Grindstone Rancheria 4-H Club. Top individual trophy winners in the various grade divisions were: JUNIOR DIVISION (9 & 10 years old) - Kelsey Swearinger - Clover 4-H Club; INTERMEDIATE DIVISION (11-13 years old) - Gracie Machado - Lake 4-H CLub; SENIOR DIVISION (14 - 18 years old) Kaylee Jackson - Willows 4-H Club. The team winners were: JUNIOR DIVISION - Schaffert 4-H Club, Brayden Sims, Hannah Cloyd and Tatum Allen; INTERMEDIATE DIVISION - Willows 4-H Club, Bucky Squier, Julia Medina and Nayely Gonzalez; SENIOR DIVISION - Clover 4-H Club, Gillian Peters, Garrett Otterson, and Raelene Garnett.

4-H Food Fiesta/Creative Arts Skills Results Approximately 28 Glenn County 4-H members participated in the annual 4-H Food Fiesta & Creative Arts & Skills Day held Saturday, January 24, at Fairview Elementary School Cafeteria, Chairperson for the event was Kathy Valle of the Orland 4-H Club. All Stars Gina Amaro and Kaylee Jackson and BLAST members Tessa Flournoy, Garrett Otterson, Kathy Valle, and Shelby Weinrich assisted with the field day. The 4-H members brought many wonderful food dishes and beautifully crafted centerpieces to be judged. They were also required to set a proper table setting and provide a nutritionally balanced menu. All Primary members (5-8 years old) received a participation medal. They were Xitlali Gonzalez and Xiomara Gonzalez - Capay 4-H, Aubrey Eddy, Rachel Kurth, Emma Thomas and Lilly Wetz - Lake 4-H. Junior Division Gold medal winners were Kenzie Eddy - Lake 4-H, Allison Thomas - Lake 4-H, Jesse Hicks - Orland 4-H, Hannah Cloyd - Schaffert 4-H, Jakob Munguia - Willows 4-H. Silver medal winners were Helena Burrows and Cheryl Burrows- Grindstone Rancheria 4-H, Aleta Kirk and Doris Padilla - Grindstone Rancheria 4-H. Daria Danley - Clover 4-H, Gracie Flowerdew - Clover 4-H, Parker Close - Clover 4-H, Amber Kurth - Lake 4-H, Jonathan Wetz - Lake 4-H, Shelby Lloyd - Schaffert 4-H, Danielle Walkup Schaffert 4-H, Kelsey Shippelhoute - Willows 4-H. Senior Division Gold Medalist was Clarissa Wetz - Lake 4-H. Official judges were Josie Porras Corporon, Lori Davis, Jennifer Ovitz, Cheryl Massa, Chris Stifter, Landry Otterson, Salina Edwards, and Kyle Scritchfield. Serving as monitors were Alicia Hicks, Justin Hicks, Levi Walkup and Faye Ellis A big thanks to all the leaders and parents who helped with this event.

Capay 4-H Club The Capay 4-H meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m., on December 2nd, 2014, by President Sarah Boone. Hannah Gonzalez led the flag salute, and Kembly Gonzalez led the 4-H pledge. Adrienne Boone read the reporter’s report and Hannah Gonzalez presented the treasurer’s report, which included balances of project accounts. Before getting on with the meeting, we sang the birthday song and Jingle Bells. Old business included Livestock Field Day. Some members shared their experiences. In new business, we discussed presentation training, Coats For Kids, and Adopt A Family. It was noted that anyone planning to show and/or sell at fair must give a presentation or be a judge on Presentation Day. For recreation, the members had a gift exchange. Every member sat in a circle with a gift in their hands. Becky Gruenwald read a short story, and every time the words right or left were said, we passed our gifts that way. Everyone had a great time. The Capay 4-H meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m., on January 5, 2015, by President Sarah Boone. Brooke E. and Zack P. led the flag salute, and Danny Zuppan and Aaron Boone led the 4-H pledge. Jacy Mull read the secretary’s minutes and Hannah Gonzalez presented the treasurer’s report, which included balances of project accounts. Before getting on with the meeting, we sang the Birthday Song and “Little Skunk.” There was no old business. In new business, we discussed the Presentation registration deadline and Presentation day on 2/6/15 at Willows Intermediate School at 6:30 p.m. The Food Fiesta registration was also discussed. The Crab Feed on 1/17/15 and Beef Weigh In on 1/19/15 were announced. The Glenn County 4-H fundraising dinner and the club responsibilities were discussed. The Bowling Leader announced the upcoming Bowling project meetings on 1/28/15 and 2/1/15 at Orland Bowl. Ashley Boone discussed the club goal of healthy eating. Clover 4-H Club

On November 10th, 2014 the Clover 4-H’s monthly club meeting was called to order. The flag salute was led by Ashley Thurman and the 4-H pledge was led by Brieze Martins. We had no correspondence. The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Aiden Imperatrice made a motion to accept the minutes as read and Brandon Rodriguez seconded the motion. The treasurer’s report was given. Wyatt Peters moved to accept the report as read and Brady Holzapfel seconded it. Shelby Weinrich gave a short presentation for a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Key leader Gina Taylor handed out the 100% attendance awards to members who attended all club meetings last year. Livestock Judging day is November 22nd at the fairgrounds. Glenn County 4-H is participating in Adopt-A-Family. Shelby Weinrich moved to donate $400 to this and Grayson Taylor seconded her motion. Project leader reports were given. On December 8th, 2014 Clover 4-H had their club meeting. The flag salute was led by Claire Maghan and the pledge by Danelle Garnett. Roll call was taken and there was no correspondence. The minutes from the November meeting were read. The motion to accept the minutes was made by Brady Holzapfel and seconded by Jenna Montz. Treasurer’s report was read and a motion to accept the report was made by Colton Geiger and seconded by Westley Otterson. Chico State Swine Day is January 24, 2015, at CSUC Farm. Chico State Sheep and Goat Day is February 7th, 2015, at 8:00 a.m. at the CSUC Farm. Leaders’ Appreciation dinner will be scheduled in January and will be at the Ord Hall. All leaders are invited and should rsvp to county office. The Food Fiesta and presentation night are approaching. Members should start planning for these events. Key leader reports were given. Lake 4-H Club On Jan. 5, 2015, the Lake 4-H club welcomed their members to a new year. In old business, one of our members spoke about attending the presentation training and how valuable the information was. The upcoming Farm Bureau Crab Feed was briefly discussed as our president reminded the club members to bring a dessert and also for members sixth grade and above to sign up to serve. Amber Kurth spoke about caroling at Westhaven and what a rewarding experience it was for her. Leaders, don't forget the upcoming Leaders’ Dinner on Jan. 11, 2015. Members don't forget to sign up for the presentation event by Jan. 15, 2015. The Home Ec Field day and Food Fiesta will be Jan. 24, 2015, don't forget to sign up online. On a cool February 2nd night, the Lake 4-H club met at Lake School for its monthly meeting. The meeting began with the usual flag salute, 4-H pledge, followed by roll call and then the primaries were dismissed. As the primary members filed into another room the voices of members discussing yesterday's Super Bowl could be heard. We had members speak about the Home Ec Field Day and Food Fiesta, and their experiences on that day. An excited member spoke about the beef weigh-ins and how much fun he had. The Crab Feed was discussed and how successful the dessert booth was. Don't forget the 4-H presentations are this Friday, February 06, 2015. The next topic was the Livestock Bowl. Please remember to be registered online by February 08, 2015. The Cooperative Extension Office is looking for Teen Camp Counselors. Please contact the Cooperative Extension Office if you are interested. The fundraiser dinner is coming on February 28, 2015, in Willows. Please return your ticket envelopes to our key leader. Plaza 4-H Club The flag salute was led by Gustin Tutus. Lillyanna Silveira read the minutes of the last meeting. Treasurer's report was read by Stella Lely. The upcoming project reports were reported by Devon Bly who was talking about the Orland Bowl. Corey Richards was talking about the sewing & quilting project and Marlene Silveira was talking about the cooking class. Food and Art Fiesta on Saturday, January 24 @ the Fairview cafeteria 10:00 am. Read New Round up deadlines and details. The Newman Family volunteered to bring the cookies and cards to senior center. The countywide presentation training is December 4th, 2014. Schaffert 4-H Club On Wednesday January 14, 2015 at 6:46 p.m. Schaffert 4-H held a monthly meeting at the Fairview Elementary Cafeteria. The minutes were read by Chase Butterfield. The treasurer report was lead by Riley Cloyd. Project reports were given by Ethan Sims and Levi Walkup. Leader, Melissa Cloyd discussed the County Dinner Fundraiser and about signing up for working the soda shift. Melissa also announced for all members to donate baked goods for the cake walk at that event. ABA information was discussed and Melissa gave an example on ABA judging and how the day is ran. Food Fiesta participation was explained and a reminder to sign up by Jan 15th. Marci Sanchez announced the Schaffert Historian position vacancy. Shelby Lloyd was elected new Historian for the club. Ethan Sims handed out Livestock Judging Day awards. County Presentation was discussed and a reminder to sign up by Jan 15. Next meeting will be Jan 28 (a make up December meeting) at 6:45 p.m. at the Fairview cafeteria. Willows 4-H Club Willows 4-H Club members met on December 8, 2014. We approved minutes from the November 10, 2014 meeting. We talked about who went to the livestock field day and the light parade. We announced upcoming events. Don’t forget that you need to register for:

Willows 4–H club members met on January 12, 2015 we approved the minutes from Decembers meeting. We talked about the food fiesta and the anything but animal judging day on January 24, 2015 at Fairview School, the president reminded everyone that they must attend if they want to enter anything in the fair that is not an animal. The club was

reminded that the Glenn County Farm Bureau needs servers for their annual crab feed January 17, 2015, desserts are also needed for the bake sale. Reminder that the Glenn County 4-H Presentation Day will be February 6, 2015, 6 p.m. at Willows Intermediate School. The annual 4-H dinner is February 28, 2015, please remember to sign up with your club to work a shift, every family is asked to bring 2 dozen cookies for the dinner, remember this dinner helps with our 4-H activates. The Animal Symposium May 27, 2015 - May 29, 2015 at UC Davis. Symposium speakers will include leaders in the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Division of Agriculture and National Resources, commodity and industry groups. 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop – Rifle Discipline Saturday, March 14, 2015 – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Lincoln Rifle Club – McBean Park Indoor range

A 4-H shooting sports workshop for the rifle discipline will be held in Lincoln, CA at the Lincoln Rifle Clubs indoor range in McBean Park. Participants must attend both days of training to receive certification. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be certified as a rifle trainer and can lead a rifle project at the club level or serve as county trainer to certify other leaders. The cost for this course is $40.00 to cover the instruction binder that each participant will receive as well as lunch on Saturday. Teen leaders are invited but must attend with an adult. Anything but Animals / Still Exhibits / Fair Participation Requirements In order to be eligible to exhibit Anything But Animals / Still Exhibits projects at the fair, members must complete the following:

Attend 70% of club meetings prior to the fair entry form deadline

Maximum of two (2) excused meetings may be made up with a Key Leader approval prior to fair entry forms deadline (See Make up Policy)

Participate in a countywide 4-H event in project area

Give presentation at the County level or judge or emcee at County / Sectional Presentation Day (to qualify to judge or emcee: must be 13 years as of December 31st or older and have given one gold presentation in the past)

All Star/ BLAST must give a presentation at a countywide event Attend a minimum of six hours of instruction in project area

Be enrolled in 4-H by the last Monday in September

All 4-H families - are asked to bring at least two dozen cookies to the Parish Hall between noon and 3:00 p.m. on the day of the event. We

need a lot of cakes for the cake wheel too.

Servers Needed - 8th Grade and Above. Contact your Key Leader.

We need ice chests to borrow for the day of the event. If you can loan yours for that day, please deliver it to the Parish Hall in Willows by 10:00 a.m.
