School Ski Trip
This year, seventh grade kids had the opportunity to go skiing with their literacy class. The location was called Nordic Ski Center, and the people there were very nice by letting us use their equipment. They al-so sold items there like candy bars, hot chocolate, and cold beverages. There were three activities, including skiing, art, and building a snow cave. In the art activity, kids painted detailed trees and added salt to give it a nice effect. Then, they hung up all the paintings together on a wall. While some kids were building a snow cave, oth-ers would throw snow balls at each other and slide down a small hill. Building a snow cave activity was very fun. The main event, which was skiing of course, had many kids that had never skied before, so it was a real challenge for them. Most of the trail was flat, but there were also some spots were you would go downhill. Some kids would fall at the end of it. It was also a challenge to get back up after falling. Well, this was a very fun experience, and you should thank all the teachers that made
this possible.

Reading During Recess?
Mr. Sacquety, a sixth grade reading
teacher, has made up his mind in making
the sixth graders read during recess. He has
made a list of all the students that haven’t
met the class reading requirements. He has
created a new reading program that tor-
ments all the souls of innocent sixth grad-
ers. While some kids are being educated by
books during recess, the rest of the kids
who aren’t reading are having fun and the
time of their lives. Unless you want to read
during recess and not have fun, start read-
ing at home! Also, if you don’t go in for
reading, Mr. Sacquety will give you a DE-
TENTION!!!

Outdoor School Preparation
Dear 6th graders,
Outdoor school can be fun, but if you’re not prepared it will be a huge stress. Having gone last year I know a lot about it. These are some of the best tips I can give
you.
1. Make sure you pack everything, even small things like Chap Stick, contact solution, etc. The last thing you want to be doing is ask-ing everyone to borrow some-thing.
2. Dress for being out in the woods. Girls, don’t wear a miniskirt with your favorite white high top Con-verse. You don’t need to look good for the trees.
3. YOU ARE GOING TO GET DIRTY! It’s not that big of a deal.
4. Go to outdoor school ready for whatever it brings you. Be open-minded! Have fun!
5. Be grateful. The people there are volunteering their time for you, so don’t lack gratitude.

Wy'east's Murals
Wy’east has quite a few amaz-ing murals in and around the school. They are all very unique, artistic, and make the school brighter. A mural that most people see when coming to Wy’east is the one outside of the gym. It is an eagle soaring with Mt. Hood in the background. In the lobby area of the P.A.C. is a beautiful wall painting of Hood River’s local wildlife that includes many animals. Purples and blues tend to be the main background in this mural. There are two fairly new mu-rals on the outside of the P.A.C. One of them is a waterfall with a bridge going across it, and the other is a mountain and a lake. The waterfall comes down the sides of the entrance and turns into a stream at the bottom. It is supposed to be Multnomah Falls. The second mural looks similar to a view from Lost Lake. In this wall painting there is a reflection of Mt. Hood in the water, a man fishing in a boat, and a pretty blue sky. For a couple weeks, kids would come for sev-enth period after school, paint individual tiles, and put them up in the cafeteria. The final product is an orchard, lake and a few mountains. Its design is very unique! On each side of that mural is a mosaic tile picture, one of a tree, and one of Mt. Hood. When you go out to recess look behind the equipment and you will see an eagle that has just caught its dinner, with a lake, Mt. Adams, and
green hills in the background.

VICE-PRINCIPAL
SPOTLIGHT
Interview with Señora Cooper
Q: What made you want to be a Vice
Principal? A: “I wanted to make a difference. I felt
that I could reach more kids if I was a vice principal.”
Q: Where did you work before this
job? A: “I worked at HRMS. I was the vice
principal there. Before that I was the reading and Spanish teacher at HRMS, and before that I worked in Chile as the special ed teacher.”
Q: Do you hope to one day be princi-
pal? A: “When all my kids are in college
maybe, but not yet.”
Q: Do you have to run everything
through Mrs. Dalbey, before you
make a decision? A: “No. Ms. Dalbey has a very, team-
work kind of an approach, where a lot of decisions I can make myself. She allows me to.”
Q: Ducks or Beavers… why? A: “I went to the UO, so technically I
should be a Duck fan… but my son is going to Oregon State, so I’m Bea-
vers right now.”
Q: What is your favorite candy…
why? A: “Chocolate! My family has to hide it
from me. I will take it from my own
kids!”

SHORT STORIES
Emma Diaries
Dear Diary,
I’ve been enjoying annoying Mr. Sac. Today I enjoyed taking apart his desk, building a house out of the book shelf, hiding the hall passes, making boring pictures epic by photo bombing them, cleaning his disgusting microwave, and dusting the class-
room.
What should I do next??? If you have any ideas put them in the advice boxes.
By: Sami McCarty and Kaitlyn McNerney and a special thank you to Emma Laney for
making Journalism 5A so much fun.

The Tale of Detention
First, you walk into a room covered in a red substance that seems too real. Sud-denly you are grabbed by Mrs. Hedges, and you can’t do anything about it. Then you are strapped to a torture machine. You get stretched until all of your bones give a satisfying, “POP!” After that, she makes you correct math papers that are twelfth grade level! After all that correcting you have to write a six-page paper about how bad you’ve been, and if you survive, you are drowned in a pot of boiling water. Peo-ple say that people coming out of detention seem to have burn marks and are a little bit taller. So, if you get a detention you de-
serve to be punished.

Family
How many siblings do you have? I have five siblings and they’re a pain in the back, but I love them anyway. I don’t have another choice. Well, four of them are girls, and there is only one boy. Boys, for some reason, are troublemakers, right? In my family it’s the other way around. My four younger, sweet, irresistible, and adora-ble sisters are the troublemakers. I don’t know how they could look so innocent and cute when they are seriously little mon-sters! Their names are Jade, Ruby, Amber, Sapphire, and my brother, Bryan. If you haven’t noticed, I am so jealous of my younger sisters because they got precious stone names and I didn’t. (So not fair) And my brother, he has some problems with electronics in hand and he is the lazy type that lies down on the couch all day. The more we tell him to put it down the more
he tries to use it; if my mother or father takes it away he goes straight to his room and comes back out with a book in hand. I am the oldest child of my family, Bryan is the second, Jade is the third, Ruby is the fourth, Amber is the fifth, and Sapphire is the sixth. I know what you are thinking right now, “Wow. That’s a lot.” I know and I couldn’t believe it myself either. Take my advice, it’s not easy. I am serious and a family like mine is a lot of responsibility. I will tell you one thing though; when you meet the Telles family there is no going
back.

April Fool’s Day Pranks
April Fool’s Day is celebrated on the first day of April. It’s a favorite day for all the pranksters out there. It’s a free pass to play tricks on your family and friends! Pranks can either be super fun and funny or just turn out completely wrong, but that’s a risk some people are willing to take to get a good laugh. Odds are, if you play a prank on somebody they will want to get revenge, so watch your back! Some people want to prank others, but the problem is they just don’t know how! I have the solution to all your prob-lems, pranksters. Here are some great pranks you might want to play next year,
and they might help you out!
1.Trick your friends by telling them you’re moving and see what they do! (I did this and I got a good laugh out of it.)
2.Take a bunch of sticky notes, write funny things on them and stick them all over your parent’s car or your friend’s locker or bedroom! (I did this too.)
3.Take a bunch of shredded paper and spill it all over your friend’s room or over there head when they walk in!
4.Now this one’s kind of long but really funny and clever! First, find a pan, tin foil, and a brown piece of paper. Cut the letter “E” out of the brown paper twice so you have two letters E’s. Next, stick the E’s in the pan and put the tinfoil over the pan so they can’t see what’s in it. Label it or leave a note that says,
“Brownies.” When the person opens it they will see “Brown E’s. By: Jessica Mendiola

Parkour
Parkour, a way to express yourself with unique tricks, is a fun way to exer-cise and stay fit. Doing Parkour can help you with physical health. The way it helps your physical health is by being active and moving your body, it improves your cardiovascular and muscular health. An-other reason Parkour is fun is because you get to express yourself by jumping off buildings, jumping over items like trash cans and rails, and also doing tricks like back flips, front flips, and other cool and unique tricks. Parkour is a fun activity that you can just do for the fun of it with
friends and other people. Sometimes
the American Parkour Academy puts on competitions in cities where anyone can go, have fun, and hang out with old and new friends doing what you like to do. Clearly, Parkour is a fun activity in which you can express yourself, hang out, have
fun with friends, and stay fit.

THE EAGLE’S KITCHEN
Page 12
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a large sauté pan, melt butter and add water.
Add the sliced apples and cook until apples are
tender and release juices. Meanwhile, in a sepa-
rate bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, tap-
ioca and self-rising flour. Place this mixture over
apples & toss in pan. Cook apples until they begin
to soften.
3. Place all topping ingredients into a bowl. Using
your fingers mix until well incorporated and mix-
ture resembles crumbs.
4. Place apple mixture into mason jars. Place top-
ping on apples & cook in a water bath at 350 de-
grees for 25-30 minutes.
I chose this recipe, because it sounded and looked great for a little get together with your friends. You literally turn a pie into a little snack as fast as that. They are delicious and you can make some for your family, sell them at the farmers market downtown, or enter them in the fair. I got this rec-ipe off the website: http://www.gactv.com/gac/pac_ctnt/

Starbucks or Dutch Bros.?
Starbucks and Dutch Bros. are the most famous coffee franchises in the north-west. Starbucks Frappuccino’s are amaz-ing, yet Dutch Bros. mocha freezes are fab-ulous. Both of these coffee shops are loved, but at this school there is only one best coffee shop! We interviewed some of our friends and classmates to see which coffee shop they liked better. If you’d like to participate in future polls we will be
making boxes.
Comments:
Daisy: I like Starbucks because their iced
Frappuccino’s taste like heaven!
Kelsey: I like Starbucks because they have more drinks and food options opposed to
Dutch Bros., which has less options.

GAME CENTER
Clash of Clans
The game Clash of Clans is a game where you have to attack other clans or vil-lages. You have to protect your village from other players by using your defenses and your troops. There are many warriors. For ex-ample, the Barbarian is a fearless warrior that relies on bulging muscles to wreak havoc in enemy villages. Another warrior is the Arch-er. Sharp shooters like him keep their dis-tance on the battle field. The Goblins are pesky little creatures that only have eyes for things like gold and elixir for which their hunger is limitless. Next up is the Giant. These big guys may look calm, but show them a cannon or a mortar and they’ll un-leash their fury. In addition, the Balloon & Wall Breakers are skeletons that drop bombs on enemies and destroy walls. The Wizard has his own tower where he can throw fire and lightning at incoming enemies. The last two warriors are the Dragon and P.E.K.K.A. These two warriors are very tough. The Dragon not only breathes fire, but also at-tacks air and ground targets. P.E.K.K.A.’s weakness is electricity. Finally, Clash of Clans was rated more than 4.5 stars on the
Play Store and the App Store.

NCAA Tournament
This year’s college basketball March
Madness was amazing with many game
winners and exciting plays. But, there
could only be one winner, and that was the
Connecticut Huskies. They were the sev-
enth seed and were going against the
eighth-seeded Kentucky Wildcats in the
NCAA championship. The final score was
60-54 with UCONN (Connecticut Huskies)
coming out on top with the help of their
star point guard, Shabazz Napier. Shabazz
had a great season averaging 18 points, 5.9
rebounds, and 4.9 assists. He surely didn’t
disappoint in the final game, putting up 22
points. Also, the day before the big game,
Shabazz Napier won a Hall of Fame award
called the Bob Cousy award which goes to
the best point guard in college basketball
each year. Overall it was a great season for
UCONN, and they got a lot of help from
their coach Kevin Ollie and of course one
of the best point guards in the college
game, Shabazz Napier.

Q. My chocolate melted. What do I do?
A. Perhaps, you should clean up the mess first. Buy some new chocolate. Don’t worry too much about it, I mean if you’re hot enough to melt chocolate then you must be
pretty hot!
A. I think you should play with the choco-late and when you’re done lick it off your fingers, or freeze your fingers so the choco-
late stays good.

D.I.Y How To Dye Your Hair With
Kool-Aid
*Wear an old worn out t-shirt that you
don’t care about.
*Add ½ cup of water or less into a bowl
and then add the Kool-Aid packages.
*For light hair use 2 packages of
unsweetened Kool-Aid, and for
dark hair use 4-5 packages of
unsweetened Kool-Aid.
*Set the bowl on the stove and
turn it on to medium.
*Start mixing the Kool-Aid and
let it sit until it starts to boil, then
take it out and pour it into a separate
container.
*Let it cool off for about 5-10 minutes.
*Then use a hairband to tie your hair into a
pony tail.
*Dip your hair into the Kool-Aid.
*For light hair let it sit for 15-20 minutes,
and for dark hair let it sit for 30-35 minutes,
*After you’ve taken your hair out dry it
with a towel or a blow dryer (I recommend
a blow dryer. It’s much faster!)
*And you’re done! (By the way, if you have
dark hair you may not get the exact color
you desire, only somewhat.)

MUSIC
Music Experience
Have you ever been interested in playing an instrument? As some of you know, I play piano. I started to play when I was nine. I had to beg my mother to get me piano lessons, and what do you think she did? She got me piano lessons! When I went to my first piano lesson, I was so ex-cited and came out with a smile on my face. Then a couple of days, weeks, and months went by, and I didn’t like playing anymore. My mother had told me “You decided to take piano lessons, so now you’re taking them.” I kept taking piano lessons and when the years passed by I started to learn that piano and music was my passion. I could express myself while playing the piano. If I was sad, my music sounded sad. If I was happy, it sounded happy. I don’t know how, but I just knew that this was my place and that I was meant to be here. Everyone tells me you have the skills to do what you love, and I do. If you want to do something, but you think that other people might not accept you because you want to play an instru-ment or any other hobby, it’s fine. I’ve been there and look where I am, happy and I have friends that love and support me. I don’t care what people say, I would
rather do what I love than be any other person. If you really want to follow your dreams of playing or some other hobby, do
it. It’s an opportunity.

Coldplay
Coldplay is a British rock band. They have made songs such as “Speed of Sound,” “Paradise,” “Clocks,” and “Viva la Vida”. Coldplay has five albums and are working on their sixth. The lead singer and piano player is named Chris Martin, the drums are played by Will Champion. Guy Berryman plays the bass, and the lead gui-tar is played by Jonny Buckland. They are a great band and they have a copious amount of great songs. I would recom-mend checking them out if you haven’t
already.

THE BOOKSHELF
City of Lost Souls
Have you read Cassandra Clare’s book City Of Lost Souls? I recommend you to read this book. Out of all the other books of The Mortal Instruments series, I loved City Of Lost Souls. City of Lost Souls is a book about loss, romance, dan-ger, and betrayal. Clary is trying to save Jace from Sebastian (who is bounded to Jace with a spell). Clary and her friends need to find a weapon that will separate and hurt Sebastian, but not Jace. This book is one I never put down even for a minute. City Of Lost Souls is going to
keep you awake all night.
By: Cristina Telles
Clockwork Angel
A second series by Cassandra Clare, The Infernal Devices, is a series I didn’t expect to be as good as The Mortal Instruments. Indeed it did beat the Mor-tal Instruments. The first book, Clock-work Angel, is a book I loved. Tessa went to London to visit her brother, but instead she meets someone else who took her as a prisoner. Then she gets rescued by a very handsome, black-haired, and blue-eye shadow hunter named William
Herondale, and she falls in love with him. As soon as she thinks she has al-ready fallen in love, she meets another handsome shadow hunter named James Carstairs and falls for him too. This book is full of romance, danger, and secrets. It is a wonderful book, and it is also a page-turner that you won’t be able to put
down for a second. Enjoy!

Sapphire Blue
Sapphire Blue by Kristen Gier is an extraordinary, romantic, dangerous, and breath-taking book. Gwyneth has found out that’s she is the Ruby, the final member of the time-traveling circle of twelve. She has the time-traveling gene when it was sup-posed to be her cousin Charlotte. She also thinks that Gideon has been playing around with her feelings. The more secrets she keeps from the people she loves, the more secrets she needs to uncover from her past. This book will bring you to new heights
and adventures than any other book. Enjoy!

Ruby Red
Ruby Red by Kristen Gier is the per-
fect book for every girl. It has everything a
girl expects to be in a book. Gwyneth, who
found out a couple of days ago that she has
the time traveling gene, has not had train-
ing because her mother told them that it
was Charlotte her cousin. Without being
trained while her cousin has had about 16
years of training to become a time-traveler
when it ends up to be her. She can also see
shadows that no one else can see like ghost.
Gwyneth’s time traveling partner, Gideon,
has such beautiful green eyes that she can’t
even stand a minute without seeing them.
Gwyneth is the ruby, and she has the power
of the raven. Gideon is the diamond and he
is the lion. (That is why he is very hand-
some in the first place) She knows that the
inner circle is keeping secrets from her.
This book is full of action, adventure, and
romance. I recommend this book to all
those girls that love science fiction. Enjoy!

Olaf
Have you seen the fabulous movie
Frozen? Well if you haven’t, then you
clearly need to get off your butt and go buy
it! The reason that I love Frozen so much is
because of Olaf! If you haven’t heard of
Olaf then you do not have a life and you
need to keep reading this. Olaf is the
sweetest warmest snowman you’ll ever
meet! He loves adventures and reindeers
(Sven). He has his own flurry, and he final-
ly got his nose! One of my favorite scenes
in the movie is when Olaf says, “Hey Anna
and Sven! Where’d you guys go? We total-
ly lost Marshmallow back there!” He also
can’t wait for summer; he even made up a
song about it called “Summer.” Once you
watch Frozen, which you have to, you’ll
immediately fall in love with Olaf. We
know we did.♥

Captain Phillips
The movie Captain Phillips is an ac-
tion-packed film that will keep you wonder-
ing what’ll happen next. The movie stars
famous actors like Tom Hanks (Captain
Phillips), and Barkhad Abdi (Muse). It re-
veals what Captain Phillips and his crew
will try to do to protect themselves from
modern-day pirates who have taken over
their ship. The pirates are a group of people
from Somalia hoping to earn cash by hijack-
ing ships. The captain ends up getting kid-
napped, and the police must find out a way
to rescue him from Muse and his allies. This
movie is based on a true story, and I would
really recommend it to anyone who likes

We Are Girls
What are middle school and teenage girls into these days, and how do we act? That is a question that cannot be answered simply. First let’s start with GUYS. We’re boy crazy, and there’s no doubt about it! We can spend hours obsessing over our fa-vorite band, singer, actor, and especially YouTuber! I know not every girl watches YouTube or vines but most who do can’t help but fall in love with Cameron Dallas, Matt Espinoa, Nash Grier, JC Kaylen, and
all those other amazingly funny guys.
But it’s not just guys we love; we spend our time on social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. We follow trends we see, and obsess over the fact that some girls can be so “perfect” and just think to ourselves “Can she just
share some of her beauty with me?”
Mostly every girl loves Starbucks, if you don’t like Starbucks then I don’t know what kind of human being you are. Food is a girl’s best friend. We will eat Nutella, chips, ice-cream, and a doughnut then complain how we’re fat. Hey, we’re girls and it’s what we do! We don’t have to look good all the time but when we want to look
good, let me tell you we work it!
These are just some of the things we girls are into and act like. Therefore keep calm
and eat food!
