WHY INTERVIEWS?
what can an interview tell you about an applicant that you cannot learn from an application form?
1 minute- work with a partner.
WHAT CAN AN INTERVIEW SHOW THAT AN APPLICATION FORM MAY NOT?
Answers include appearance (does that matter?- Yes, for some jobs).attitude (Mum may have filled in the application form so creating a false impression) punctuality. personal skills like teamwork, relating to other people.how they might fit in to the work place. general intelligence and common sense etc.

You MAY be able to research the job for your interview
WHAT HAPPENS
Before half term: you will be given an interview time, place and interviewer, plus company details of the interviewer where appropriate
7th June: interview date. You are expected to organise getting there.
You will need to show the letter to your family at home AND to your teacher when you need to leave the lesson.

Design an ideal interview outfit. Label it.

Smart clothes… Maybe a suit or smart trousers or a smart skirt Not too short! Maybe some
makeup but not too much.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFOREHAND
Where and when your interview is Everything you can about the job you are
interested in- training, what you do, prospects
What your job organisation offers- and get course names EXACTLY RIGHT because the interviewer will know!
TAKE WITH YOU...
Your letter of application. Application form. A CV if you have one. A Record of Achievement a folder with
examples of achievements- good work, references.
Information about the course or career you are being interviewed for.

START BY…
Choosing a job or college course or training open to a school leaver
e.g.?
CHOOSING A JOB OR COLLEGE COURSE OR TRAINING OPEN TO A SCHOOL LEAVER
e.g. A levels Apprenticeship Vocational college courses Forces Entry level courses
...no pilots or doctors though it’s a good ideas to have a long term job aim.
PREPARE BY
Researching your job/training be able to say where you want to go
Know the exact name of the course, training etc
e.g.Hair-dressing level 2 at Blackburn College?
Which particular A levels and how many?

What would an interviewer think if you turned up for the interview with printouts of useful information from your research?
S/HE WOULD BE VERY IMPRESSED !
You would have shown you were interested and keen
You would have shown you knew HOW to research
You would know useful information You would have an advantage over everyone
