...to our Chapter Directors.....

Hi everyone. This past month the only Chapter event that was scheduled was the dinner ride to Port Byron Diner. There were 16 people attending and the food was great. If you haven't had a chance to attend one of our dinner rides, I would highly recommend them. It is a good time with great friends and good food. !This will be our last newsletter article as Chapter Directors. Chris and I would like to thank everyone for making this a great experience. It has given us an opportunity to get to know more of the members and also to give back to the Chapter for all that it has meant to us. We are especially grateful for the wonderful friendships that we have made within the Chapter and GWRRA. Chris and I look forward to being a part of the Chapter with Bill and Lisa as Chapter Directors. We feel they will bring a lot to the Chapter.!When Bill and Julie asked me to be their Assistant Director, I was not sure I wanted to take on the extra responsibility and work. After taking the time to consider it, however, I felt it would not be fair for me to continue to just sit back and enjoy the good things that the Chapter was giving me without contributing something back. We have made some of our most enjoyable memories with our friends in the Chapter on rides, trips, dinners rides, and, at the gatherings. It has been a pleasure to to be a part of giving back to the people who have given us so many good memories.! ! !We want to thank our Chapter Team for their hard work and help. Thank you to:

Bill and Lisa Nickal, our Assistant Directors - for accepting the invitation to be our next Chapter Directors. Rick Reardon - for conducting training sessions and for investing time to be a great educator for the Chapter and GWRRA. Pam Pearson - for being our Chapter Web Master and recently for creating the Chapter Facebook page and posting to it. Bill and Julie Spencer - for continuing to support the Chapter as the newsletter editors and posting our events to the Chapter calendar and keeping it up to date. Trish Thayer, our MEC - for her hard work contacting new members and welcoming them into the Chapter and for bringing humor to our gatherings. Jim and Trish Thayer - for being the COY for the past two years and representing the Chapter at GWRRA events. Bill Downey - for being our Treasurer, keeping the finances and making sure I didn't spend too much money. Jim Tillotson and Henry Jedra - for handling the advertising. Shirley Hammond, our Sunshine Coordinator - for sending out get well and sympathy cards for our Chapter. Laurie O'Brien - for keeping up with shirt and patch orders. John Van Deusen - for all the help he has given the Chapter with training, despite the responsibilities he has as District Educator. We also want to recognize and thank our many Chapter sponsors (see their ads below) that help with financial support. !Without the assistance from these members and sponsors, I would not have been able to do my job as Chapter Director. I want to personally thank the last member of my team who made the biggest contribution to my being the Chapter Director and keeping me on track - my wife Chris. Without her I would not have been able to do the job as I have. She has not only been my right hand, but both hands at times. THANK YOU ALL!!

Bill and Lisa will need everyone’s help to make our Chapter continue to grow and be strong into the future. I am hoping that someone will feel as Bill and I did, and want to give back to the Chapter and accept the invitation to become Bill and Lisa's Assistant Director.

Chris and I would like to thank the Chapter members for making this job easier because of the wonderful group of people you are.

...to Assistant Chapter Directors.....

At this “Thanksgiving” time of the season and as 2014 draws to a close, we all need to give a little “Thank-You” to those individuals that make Chapter “D” NY a success! Lisa and I want to take a moment to thank Bob and Chris Makai for leading us through another great year! (Thank-You) Their hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed and wherever there is a good leader there are good (great) people behind them, which make the leadership look good.

2014 proved to be another great year of rides and adventure with our friends. The continued training we received from Rick and John helped keep our skills sharp and our rides safe. Our newsletters each and every month continue to be informative with all the important information and activities. Thanks Bill and Julie Spencer, Pam Pearson, and, all who have contributed articles during the year. It is your contributions that keep the newsletter alive! A great big thank-you goes to our Member Enhancement Coordinator, Trish Thayer, and, her trusted helper Jim Thayer. Her continued hard work and dedication is a big reason we have seen an increase in our membership this past year. Many hours go into doing such a great job and her monthly humor during our gathering is always a bright spot we all look forward to! A big “Thank-You” goes to our treasurer Bill Downey for monthly writing checks, making deposits and keeping our finances in order. Many “Thanks” also go out to Laurie O’Brian for her work as our patch/pins/jackets and shirt coordinator, to Jim Tillotson and Henry Jedra for their work on advertising. Thank you to Shirley Hammond for the many cards sent out as our sunshine coordinator. We should thank everyone for their help making this a great year.

Lisa and I are looking forward to continuing the great tradition of Chapter “D” New York as your Chapter Directors for 2015. We believe in GWRRA Chapter D and are honored to serve all of you. Lisa and I are still looking for anyone or couple that would be willing to help us as Assistant Directors for 2015. We also appreciate everyone who has offered to continue to help and be a part of the leadership team for 2015. December will be a busy month getting things organized and changed over to our new leadership. See you all soon.

Respectfully,Bill and Lisa NickalAssistant Chapter Directors

...Chapter Rider Educator.....

End of Riding Season >>>>Again<<<<

Tears are starting to flow ‘cause it's almost time to put our babies to bed for the long winter’s rest. :( :(

Here are some things that should be done before you put the cover on the bike or hang up your gear for a few months of hibernation.

BIKE: • Fill gas tank with non ethanol fuel and put stabilizer in; start bike and let it cycle thru fuel system

or go for short ride around the block to cycle stabilizer thru system.• Wash bike very well to get all the riding season dirt & grime out of all the nooks and crannies

that don't sit well over months of being covered up.• Wax all painted & chrome parts including wheels.• Clean seat with a conditioner to preserve the seat material.• Change oil & filter and gear fluid.• Now is the time to change brake pads, clutch/brake fluid and coolant, if you're mechanically

inclined. • Put battery on a maintainer or trickle charger.• Put dryer sheets or moth ball packets around your bike to keep the little critters off and out of

your baby.• Put bike on center stand or on a lift to take weight off the suspension.• Take your Gold Book out of bike and put it in your 4 wheel vehicle, or, better yet, move your

previous years Gold Book to your car and keep newest edition on bike.• Cover with a good cover that prevents moisture from building up on bike. • Anything else that you may do to your bike before it gets covered up for winter.

GEAR:• Wash helmet liner and wax exterior of helmet, clean shield.• Wash jacket & liner - don't forget to check pockets for money or other items before it goes into

the washer. Check instructions for drying so you don't shrink your jacket.• Treat your jacket with water repellent after jacket is clean. This will help preserve the reflective

material also.• Wash gloves.• Take boot liners out and wash them if possible. Spray a foot deodorizer inside boots to make

them smell better :)

A little Extra for your money:

Start thinking about changing your Smoke Detector & CO Detector batteries with the changing of the clocks November 1st/2nd (fall back). Smoke detectors should be on every level of your house and CO detectors should be in the basement and main level of your house.

Do you have a CO (carbon monoxide) detector? If you don't NOW is the time to get one, this could save your live against the "silent killer".

Do you have some type of wood burning appliance (wood, pellet, coal)? Now is the time to clean your chimney and the stove if you haven't done it before the first use. The first use is probably long gone, so get’r done if it hasn't been done yet.

Ride Safe, Ride Smart:It's almost that time to switch from the "Ride Safe, Ride Smart to Drive Safe, Drive Smart in your 4 wheeled vehicle for the next few months.

...to Membership Enhancement Coordinator

As we enter into the month of November, I am reminded of a couple of things. The first is Veteran’s Day … November 11th. It is the day we honor all the Veterans, past and present, who have served in the military on behalf of our country. As your Chapter’s MEC, I would like to thank all of our members who are Veterans. Thank you for your service! Also, now that we are in the “Thanking” phase, let us remember that Thanksgiving is fast approaching. At this time of the year I realize how thankful I am for the blessings in my life. Despite having back issues, my health is fairly good. I have been able to keep busy with volunteer work at the Phoenix Dining & Activity Center a couple of days a week. I have been there for 8 plus years. I am one of the trainers for the Osteo exercise class which I have attended for about 9 years. There are a group of ladies who attend class twice a week, doing exercises (with weights) in hopes of preventing Osteoporosis. Back in the springtime I took a tumble down my cellar stairs and badly bruised my body. However, I was very fortunate and thankful that I neither broke, nor fractured, any bones. The doctor stated he believed my Osteo class is what saved me! I am thankful for my husband, Jim whom I’ve been married to for 20 years. You know the saying “If the wife isn’t happy, then nobody’s happy”!??? Well Jim has kept this wife pretty happy! We have shared many experiences together. There have been shed tears as we’ve lost friends and family members who have passed on. If you know us, then you know we have shared many laughs as well. There’s just no controlling that husband of mine! Speaking of friends, I’m so thankful for mine. What with my volunteer work, the exercise class, my Red Hat group and my music classes, I’ve met many fine people. However, let me not forget to mention GWRRA ~ more specifically Chapter D. I am extremely thankful for the many friends I’ve acquired over the past 14 years. I have enjoyed our times together…whether it is at a meeting, on a bike ride, at a dinner ride or maybe at one of the Chapter D or the GWRRA events. We always have a good time. I am thankful that you thought enough of Jim & me to have selected us as your Couple of the Year. Boy, did we ever buffalo you folks! Finally I must say that I have enjoyed being the Chapter MEC. It’s my way of giving something back to you for all you have given me…your friendship…and for that I am very thankful!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!Trish ThayerChapter D ~ MEChttp://www.gwrra.org/freetrial.html
