With many hours of hard work, they

created the beautiful Labyrinth Garden

enjoyed by Unity’s patients and their

families. There are also very nice

walking paths on the grounds.

At 6:30 p.m., president Carl

Christensen opened our business

meeting. Nineteen members attended.

The May minutes were approved, and

Marsha May gave the treasurer’s

report. We still haven't received a bill

from Schroeder’s to be reported.

Meetings in 2019: Carl is still looking

at the Village Grille. They want $35 a

meeting and are expecting some of us

to be eating. Nothing is decided yet.

Future Civic Project: Carl received a

letter from Heritage Hill asking us if we

those who want to bring something to

the August 22nd picnic.

Calendars: Orders are now being taken

committees. I and everyone else know of the hard work Shirley puts into these activities. Congratulations!

I was thinking back when I first was president of The Gardeners Club of Green Bay and someone asked me if we could get the president from National to come to our meeting. That was Karen Clark who came, so I asked Karen if she would give the oath to the officers. It was great. Now whoever it was that asked if the President could come to our meeting, he will be at all the meet-ings now! I want to thank everyone for their help and support. There is a lot of work on the national level, and I will try to keep you all updated at our meetings. Thanks also to Sue Rohan as our representative on the board of directors. Thank you, Sue, good job!

The calendars are here. They will be at the meeting so see Shirley if you ordered a calendar.

Keith and Karen Trowbridge are TGOA-

MGCA members who live in Leo,

Indiana. They hosted our visit which

included the memorial service and a

box lunch as well as viewing their

extensive gardens. There was a large

vegetable garden at right. Japanese

garden elements were used throughout

the shaded gardens.

We visited the historic site (Wildflower Woods) of Gene Stratton-Porter. She lived from 1863-1924 and

wrote numerous children’s novels. She was a naturalist having lived in this cabin on Silver Lake

encompassing 150 acres of shoreline, woods, fields, and gardens.

This Amish home in LaGrange County serves a large

family of parents with 11 children. Note the gas light

fixture on the ceiling (close-up far right).

This is Four Woods Poultry, an Amish free range farming business. Red Island Reds are raised for their eggs. The

process of placing the eggs in cartons is mechanized.

A butterfly house was at the Foellinger-Freimann

Botanical Conservatory. Butterflies congregated on

the plastic scouring pad being attracted by the liquid

in the shallow container. One of our seminars

featured the plants butterflies prefer and feeding

butterflies; here’s a recipe for attracting butterflies:

1 pound sugar

1 or 2 cans stale beer

3 mashed overripe bananas

1 cup molasses or syrup

1 cup fruit juice

1 shot of rum

Mix well. You can paint this mixture on trees, fence

posts, rocks, or stumps. You could also soak a

sponge in the mixture and hang from a tree-limb or

place it into a shallow dish. Butterflies prefer bright

sunny spots.
