GW Hospital Helipad
Opens
save the Date Faculty/housestaff
Holiday Party Friday, December 6, 2019
Renwick gallery
On Friday November 8th GWUH offi-
cially opened their helipad, expand-
ing access to lifesaving critical care
for the D.C. region. The helipad will
help prevent unnecessary deaths
throughout the metropolitan area.
The helipad has been 30 or more
years in the making. Approval had to
be obtained from the Park Police,
the District Police, the Secret Service,
the White House and most im-
portantly the Community.
Much kudos goes to Kim Russo who
persevered through all these ap-
provals to get this done where oth-
ers had failed.

This award honors outstanding physicians who have devoted their
careers to the education of their colleagues and students.
Manuel T. Velasquez, MD, who recently retired was the
Director of the Hypertension Clinic and professor of Medicine in
the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension. He was also the
Medical Director for the George Washington University DaVita
South East Dialysis Clinic.
Dr. Velasquez received his M.D. from the University of
Santo Tomas, Manila Philippines. Dr. Velasquez is certified by The

long and illustrious career. He is considered to be a teacher with
few equals and is truly valued by his peers at GW. On a personal
note, Manny has always been one of my favorite people who is
loved by all that know him. This is a fitting award for someone
who has devoted his life to teaching excellence.

Kudos and Congratulations
Congratulations….Dr. Paul L Kimmel, Renal Division, who received the 2019 Belding H Scribner Award, pre-sented annually to an individual who has made outstand-ing contributions that has a direct impact on the care of patients with kidney disease. Established in 1995, this award honors the physician who developed arteriovenous shunt that made long term hemodialysis for chronic kid-ney disease possible.
Congratulations…to Dr. Lei Lynn, Hospital Medicine, and her family on the newest addition to her family, Avery Mae Lynn arrived on 10/29.
Kudos…to Dr. Christina Prather, Geriatrics and Pallia-tive Care, on her GW Proud moment, “She was extremely kind and sensitive to the difficult decisions which we had to make, but firm and direct in making certain that we under-stood the alternatives. Over time, we began to regard her as an angel sent from on high to guide us along a difficult path.”
Kudos...to Dr. Anne Lesburg and the entire Internal Medicine Clerkship for achieving above national mean from NBME for 2018-2019 medicine shelf exam.
