Film Synopsis

At the height of the bullying scandal that rocked the U.S.

in 2008, a 15-year-old boy named Larry King asked

another boy to be his valentine in a suburban

schoolyard in California. The next day Larry was

dead, shot in cold blood by his 14-year-old crush

Brandon McInerney. At turns shocking, devastating,

and outrageous, VALENTINE ROAD bores

deeply into the homophobia, sexism, racism, and class-

struggle that inform everyday American life—and reveals an American

justice system that is utterly unprepared to deal with the

realities of teenage crime and punishment. Directed

by first-time feature documentarian Marta

Cunningham, VALENTINE ROAD is an unforgettable

exposé of society’s pervasive and deadly

intolerance of young people who don’t conform to its

gender “norms.” World premiered at Sundance 2013, this film will both

break your heart and fire you up into action. Tickets on sale now @ www.trybooking.com/FEUF

Member’s Event Report – Our recent 9th birthday party @ the Aussie Hotel

“As June approached I knew it was time for another GV Pride birthday party. I was surprised to find out it that it

was at The Aussie. Just a casual lunch with food, drinks and good company was on the cards. It couldn't sound

more perfect.

“As I arrived I saw that quite a few people had attended. As the day went on there were platters brought out with

various tasty treats on them. The food was spectacular, The Aussie sure knows how to cook.

The choir performed superbly. Having Rhubarb as our waitress for the day was a fabulous idea as she knew

most of us and blended in quiet well … well, as blended as she can achieve, lol.

I commend the hard work and effort that the committee has put into organising this event, they did an excellent

job as always. Overall I enjoyed myself." ANONYMOUS

STAY TUNED FOR OUR ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT NEXT YEAR’S 10TH

President’s Message – Direct from the Desks of your co-presidents, Georgie & Kieran

Looking back over the last six months GV Pride has been

involved in so much - it's amazing to see the growth we have had as a committee and an organisation! From a personal viewpoint

GV Pride offers us an amazing social connection and the opportunity to meet great people from all over the Greater

Shepparton Area and beyond. We also strive to offer ongoing guidance and a great support system and will continue to

endeavour to create greater equality, acceptance and understanding across Greater Shepparton. We recently

celebrated our ninth birthday and it was amazing to see so many of our members and friends come along and help celebrate the

community that we are all such an integral part of. This year alone we have held some great events at businesses around our local area and beyond who are both supportive and

welcoming members of the community, which is great to see. We have continued to have our bi-monthly Sunday Brunch at the Lemon Tree Cafe in Fryers Street Shepparton where the table is always full and we leave feeling the same way! Our Tuesday

night Steak nights at the GV Hotel have also been a long going favourite between members. We ventured to Echuca earlier on in the year when the weather was beautiful and have made it our mission to continue to bring you - our members - a variety of

events at different locations and venues. Earlier this year, during the summer months, we attended and also had stalls at both of Victoria’s prominent festivals Midsumma

in Melbourne and ChillOut in Daylesford. We proudly marched along in Victorias Pride March and have been to musicals and shows as well! We held a great movie event as part of the SheppARTon Festival in March with the hugely successful screening of

"Cloudburst" and some members ventured over to Bendigo for Bendigo Queer Film Festival also! The GV Pride Calender is always jam packed with events and as your presidents we will continue to bring you the opportunity to be a part of as many or as

little as you would like to be within this community. GV Pride would not be in the position it is in today without the help from our financial members. We always have room for a new

membership or renewal. Memberships offer you access to cheaper Village Movie Tickets, SMS reminders and emails about upcoming events, discounts to some events attended by members and more!

Thank you for your ongoing membership and support. We really value it and we hope you do to.

More upcoming events not to be missed...

You’ll have noticed this newsletter is only 6 pages long – and there’s a good reason for that! We used to pack pages and

pages of info into our newsletters, and we’d be lucky if we got them out to you every 2-3 months! (Doing these newsletters

is actually a pretty big job!) We’ve changed our style & will now be sending you monthly newsletters no more than 6 pages

long – we’ll also be updating both our website (gvpride.org) and Facebook page (facebook.com/gvprideshepparton) for

those of you who like to do it online. Let us know what you think!
