We still have to follow Restricted Access requirements in line with DET guidelines. Only students, school staff and approved essential visitors are allowed on school grounds. Our gates are locked and are only opened at 8:45am and 3:15pm for students to enter and exit. This doesn’t mean our teachers are not keen to talk to parents and carers. We encourage you, if you would like to talk to your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact the school: contact your child’s teacher via email send a contact request via Flexibuzz, or • telephone 5144 3633 8am-4pm, to leave a message. Our regular communication between home and school was one of the greatest things to come out of Remote Learning so we want to keep this up as much as possible. Next Wednesday, 24 June, your child will be bringing home their Semester 1 Report. While our school modified and adapted the delivery of its teaching and learning program for remote and flexible learning, this impacted our usual program and methods for monitoring the achievement and progress of each student. Due to the major changes that schools had to make to teaching and learning plans for Term 2, the Department of Education and Training also made changes to student reporting requirements for Semester 1. As such, student reports for Semester 1, 2020 will include a description of the subject areas taught in Term 1. Teachers will provide comments regarding student learning achievement in these areas as well as acknowledging how they went in the remote and flexible learning environment. Due to the unprecedented changes to our program from COVID-19, schools will not be including teacher judgement scores in Semester 1, as authorised by the Department of Education and Training. We will report on progress at the end of the year in the Semester 2 Reports. If you have queries regarding your child’s report, parents/carers should contact their child’s classroom teacher by email to arrange an appropriate time to discuss this further. As our term draws to a close, and the school holidays begin, we’re asking everyone to keep a caring eye on our school property over the school holiday break. After school hours, on weekends, on public holidays and school holidays, no-one should be on school property, except school staff. Our school grounds, building, playgrounds and facilities are not open to the public. Unauthorised access is trespassing and will be followed up by the Police. Our school neighbours, and wider school community are our best means for monitoring our school security. We have invested in having the best facilities for our students and we want to ensure they are protected and kept secure at all times. In order to discourage unauthorised access and vandalism, and in order to keep our students safe inside the school boundaries during the school days, School Council have been investigating a new and improved perimeter fence. The current school fence has served its purpose well over the years but it has begun to break in certain areas and needs an upgrade. So, with the help of Wendy Morgan, School Council have engaged a fence contractor to design and erect a funky new fence that is visually striking and most importantly, will be more effective in helping to keep our school safe. Our new fence will be installed over the holiday period and will be finished in time for the start of Term 3. As always, if anyone has concerns regarding the behaviour of people on our school premises, or notices any damage to property, please notify the Police 51442 2200 or call 000 if it is an emergency. Please do not approach anyone directly. You can also let us know by sending an email to [email protected], or a contact request via Flexibuzz. Thank you for your support. We all appreciate it. Fire Victims Appeal Last Wednesday, fire engulfed the home of one of our Guthridge Primary School families. Unfortunately, the family lost all their belongings but thankfully no-one was hurt. Our school community is tremendously caring and willing to support others in times of need. Very quickly families have begun asking how they can help. I will let you all know in the coming weeks how we can best support this family. We do have to wait to find out how our school community can provide the best support and we will let our school community know as soon as we know what is needed. In the meantime, if you have furniture or white-goods you are willing to donate, we will keep a register here at school and contact you if needed. We do not have storage facilities at school. Our thoughts are with Billy and Josh and their family during this extremely difficult time but now let’s put these thoughts into action and do something that will really make a difference. Next Friday, we ask all students to bring a gold coin donation. We don’t need to have a casual clothes day or dress-up day for this. Giving is about being kind and supporting others; like we would like to be supported if we were in need. If families wish to make a larger donation, they can contact the school to make arrangements. Our school will use the money donated to purchase things that the family urgently needs. Thank you all in advance.
