Guns Attack Team,
The Army Chief of Staff General Raymond T. Odierno is quoted as saying,
“The strength of our Nation is our Army; the strength of our Army is our
Soldiers; the strength of our Soldiers is our Families; and that is what makes us
Army Strong.”
General Odierno’s words speak to the truly important aspect of our
“business”—and that is People. Relationships, support, and general health of our
fellow Soldiers and Family members are the foundation of our great military. It is
my observation that Soldiers can only perform their duties with the support of their
Family and loved ones and within an organization that fosters dignity and respect for
all. We are not perfect, but I can confidently share with you that our leaders and
subordinates continue to care for one another, mitigate hazards, and accomplish all of
our missions.

The month of November was extremely successful for the Guns Attack TEAM! We stayed busy with
numerous live-fire training events, coordination with Air Force and Marine Corps units, continued our
partnership efforts, and established our overwater gunnery capability. I cannot say enough about the efforts of
our air and ground maintainers, pilots, staff, and leaders who continue to train for contingencies and keep our
Soldiers’ skills sharp. Keep up the great work!
December will prove to be busy for the entire formation as Bravo Company continues to prepare for
NTC (February) with 3-227th at Fort Hood, TX and the Kuwait companies prepare for maritime gunnery, air
assault missions with 1-67 AR, embarkation on a Navy ship, and Holiday celebrations. I must give a special
“thank you” to our FRG who recently held a Holiday cookie exchange and ornament event at Fort Hood. We
enjoyed the pictures of Santa and the kids… Thanks to all our volunteers for making that happen. I also want to
recognize our FRSA Mr. Charles Lyons and his wife for preparing and donating Thanksgiving baskets for
several of our families. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
In closing, on behalf of CSM Zach Hurst, CW4 Sebastien Cosyns, and I, we wish everyone a very Merry
Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and blessed New Year!
Thanks to our Families for all they do in support of our Army, their Soldier, and this Battalion!
As always, it is an honor to serve as your commander. Take an active role in making the Army and this
unit better every day!

Congratulations to SGT Thyng, D Co and SPC Hughes, HHC for winning the Battalion NCO/SOM Board
this month. Great Job!! And to all the Soldiers that was promoted and graduated Warrior Leaders Course in
November, congratulations on an outstanding job. Also a big thank you to the Rear-D, Charles and the FRG for
coming together and holding Team building events with our Families back home.
Our nation owes each of you a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices you have made and will continue to make. I
know I speak for LTC Perry, CW4 Cosyns and myself when I say that we remain completely honored to serve as

Being away from friends and family during the holiday season can be challenging and difficult to cope
with. For some, it is a new experience and it is up to those of us who have dealt, on more than one occasion,
with this separation to show support during the upcoming holiday season. Don’t forget to take a few minutes out
of the day to call or email friends and family and share the holiday spirit. There might not be any snow, a fire
place or a Christmas tree to look at every day, but look forward to the following holiday season which will be
spent at home with loved ones. As for myself, I have spent numerous holiday seasons away from family, but
never regretted being part of a larger family; the ones serving with and supporting throughout the deployments.
On numerous occasions we found ourselves flying in support of ground troops on Christmas day, but we always
came home to a good meal as they spent the day and night patrolling the streets or villages without complaining.
They made the best of the situation and so shall we. Not an easy feat by all means but we will be just fine
together.
On a different note, congratulations to SPC Ogden from Charlie Company for being selected to attend
Warrant Officer Candidate School. A new world has now presented itself to you. Take every opportunity to
become the best aviator you can become and never settle for anything less than the best. CPT Schwilk also
deserves a round of applause for becoming our newest Pilot-In-Command.

HHC Bounty Hunters
Bounty Hunters Family,
November has come and gone, with the Bounty Hunters having another full and successful month here in
Kuwait partnering and training. The Soldiers have been busy, keeping operations going and also taking the time
to improve relations with the Rotary Air Wing for the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. They have also had the
opportunity to have some fun along the way.
Starting the month off to a good start, we had a large amount of promotions that come down on November
1st. CPT Joseph Fernandez, 1SG Bryan Oser, SGT William McRae, and PFC Dezmon Worth all received their
promotions effective that day. LT Alvarez and LT Brown were both promoted on the 26th of November.
The NCO Induction ceremony occurred on 5 November, with HHC’s
SGT Cantave and SGT Groesbeck
both being inducted as new NCOs.
On 8 November, GUNS ATTACK
hosted a barbeque for the aviation
element of the 13th Marine
Expeditionary Unit (MEU), who
were at Camp Buehring conducting
training over the month of November. This opportunity allowed the MEU
aviators a chance to look at the Apaches and to talk with our experts, sharing their
knowledge and tactics with Army aviators, a first for both units.
The Chaplains office held a chocolate fun run on 16 November, the run was
exactly 4.227 Kilometers and there was an excellent spread of sugary treats for all
personnel to enjoy after the run. The final large event for the
Bounty Hunters this month was the M2/MK19/M249 range.
This was held in order to allow Soldiers to become qualified
on the crew served weapons that HHC has available for Force Defense.
The FRG Cookie Exchange was conducted on the 23rd of November. The
Soldiers can’t wait to get the cookies that were sent, and have trees ready for their
decorations. Thank you to everybody who attended, and a huge thank you to Amber
Goodwin, who put a lot of time and effort into making the Cookie Exchange the best possible event for the entire
Battalion.
Finally, a huge congratulations to SPC Terrez Verrett and his wife Nichole, who
gave birth to a healthy little girl, Amayah, on the 10th of this month. That makes 2
children born while one parent is away on this deployment, but we have a few more
coming over the next couple months. I want to wish an early Merry Christmas and
Happy Chanukah to all of the members of the Bounty Hunters back home. Thank you
and make sure to talk to your Soldier over the next couple of months, as it means a lot to
them this time of year.
Keep strong at home, and keep thinking of us over here. We will talk to you again next month.

Family and Friends of the Panthers,
As November ends and winter approaches, I want to issue a heartfelt ‘Happy Holidays!’ from Camp
Buehring. The holiday season has arrived, including Halloween candy and Autumn weather. November
brought rainy days, foggy days and chill winds. November also meant a variety of
training opportunities including overwater missions in the Arabian Gulf, aerial gunnery
with the air force, and joint training with a contingent of US Marines conducting
exercises at Camp Buehring.
The Marine Corps also provided the 4-227th
ARB three spots for crew chiefs to fly in an AH-1Z
Super Cobra. Alpha Company recognized PFC Hicks
for his hard work and great attitude and was rewarded
with a flight in a Cobra Attack Helicopter, looking at
Camp Buehring from a bird’s eye view.
We have begun to build a steady routine here,
punctuated by exciting moments and milestones. SGT
Howard participated in an NCO Induction ceremony,
which welcomes new leaders into the Corps of the
Non-Commissioned Officer. SPC Forton graduated
from the Warrior Leader Course, a three week
leadership course to refine his leadership skills and
professional capability. CPL Parkhurst was laterally
promoted to Corporal and assumed the responsibility
as a squad leader. The Company congratulates CW2 Stuebbe and his wife Wendy on
the birth of their first child, Cael Andrew Stuebbe. We wish you all the best.
Alpha Company Soldiers continue to make an impact and conduct their duties
safely and proficiently. During this holiday season, 1SG Witmer and I will be thankful
for the outstanding team we have in Alpha Company and the support from the Families
that motivate us all to work hard every day. The cards, photos and Halloween candy
have increased the morale and the waist line
of the sweet tooths in the Company.

Diamondbacks Families and Friends,
Happy Thanksgiving! November closes out an extremely busy time for Bravo Company and we are
excited to have some time to enjoy turkey and stuffing before moving into December.
The Diamondbacks spent the bulk of November training on gunnery
skills in preparation for the upcoming NTC rotation in February. The first week
of the month was spent qualifying crews during 1st Battalion’s Gunnery event.
We qualified four crews over the course
of six days to ensure currency through
NTC. Immediately upon completion of
gunnery the Company deployed to
Training Area 40 as part of Operation
Spearhead Rampage. The field exercise
was in support of 1st BCT to validate
Company level mission tasks prior to
NTC. We spent a total of 10 days in the
field, conducting several iterations of
live fire with the Soldiers of 1st
Brigade. In addition to flight support,
the Company also had the chance to develop some individual skills for our
newest Soldiers. Training events included assembly area operations, base defense measures, communications
training, drivers training, Combat Life Saver training and much more. The Soldiers were trained to react to
certain battle drills such as indirect fire and responding to a mass casualties event.
During the field problem the battalion hosted a family day for
the Soldiers. The Diamondbacks had a great turnout from our
Families and it was a great day for everyone involved. There were
static displays, weapons stations and a cookout to entertain the
visitors. Some additional news from the Company includes the
promotion of CW2 Brechwald to CW3. His wife joined him for the
promotion ceremony held at the airfield and it was a great event.
CW2 Stuebbe and his wife welcomed their first born son Cael into the
world last week. Baby and mother are doing great and we are excited
for the new addition!
December will be busy as we finalize some preparations for NTC. There are several FRG events throughout the
month and the Holidays will be upon us before you know it!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Snake Eyes Family at Ali Al Salem!
Everyone here is getting in the holiday spirit. The DFAC is adorned in something of a cross between
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Mardi Gras décor.
November has brought rain...yes rain! And lots of it. It has sprinkled at least a few times per week all
month. This past week, in a matter of 24 hours we got 1.8 inches of rain which resulted in extensive flooding in
many areas on base and on the local roads. Some small patches of grass have started growing around the flight
line– they look like miniature marshes if you use your imagination. None of us were expecting it to rain as much
as it did, although we aren’t complaining as it has been a nice departure from the dry weather.
The Snake Eyes have once again had a great month of
training with some very unique experiences. We had our first
partnership flight with the Kuwaiti Apache unit. We flew a short
overwater mission then had the opportunity to fly along the
beachfront of Kuwait City. The view was absolutely spectacular!
We are excited for our next training opportunity with them which is
scheduled for two days prior to Thanksgiving. We are continuing to
train weekly with Air Force assets working with their Joint Area
Tactical Controllers (JTAC) which has been outstanding training for
our newer pilots. We are currently preparing for our first overwater
gunnery the 1st and 2nd of December. This gunnery will present
some unique challenges and should be an outstanding learning
experience for all of the pilots.
At the beginning of the month, CPT Rogers and 1SG Mungin
had the pleasure of promoting two exceptional crew chiefs to Sergeant. Congratulations to SGT Ogden and
SGT Ungles! Their promotion was well deserved and they are a great addition to the NCO Corps. Also,
congratulations to SGT Ogden for getting picked up for Warrant Officer Candidate School to become an Army
Aviator!
A big thank you to all of our families back home for their continued support! Everyone enjoyed the
banner that was put together for us and it is hanging proudly in our office.

D Co Unforgiven
Unforgiven Family and Friends, The last time I wrote to you I spoke of the rigorous pace that our Soldiers had been working.
Today I can tell you that their hard work has paid off, but the work continues. The pace has slowed some and
we have been without a phase for the past 30 days. A welcome relief, but if anyone has ever heard of Murphy’s
Law then you know that once you think you’re in the clear, disaster strikes. In our unit’s case, Murphy struck in
a major way when we discovered that several of our aircraft blades were in need of repair. The safety of our
airframes and pilots will always come first and the decision was made to change out 30 main rotor blades. This
is a daunting task that not only requires replacement of the blades, but also a flight by a maintenance test pilot to
ensure that vibration levels are safe and the
aircraft is capable of flying on missions. Our
Soldiers worked day and night and in one day we
went from zero aircraft mission capable to five.
Truly amazing and all credit is due to the
Unforgiven Soldiers!
The holiday season is drawing closer and
as we get to this time I want you to understand
that we all want nothing more than to be with our
Families. Service to our nation will preclude us from doing so this
year, but rest assured; your loved one also has a Family here and we
will take care of each other during the holiday season.
1SG Corr and I are extremely proud of four Unforgiven
Soldiers who have met the requirements to wear a higher rank.
SGT Arismendez was promoted to E-5 this month and three others;
SGT Guzman, SGT Morford and SGT Momber will be promoted to
Staff Sergeant (E-6) on 1 DEC. We look forward to these Soldiers
future accomplishments and continued service to the Unforgiven
team.

Our FRG has been extremely busy with
activities and events lately. Nineteen Unforgiven
Family members and Friends embraced the frigid
conditions and completed the Killeen Color Up 5K this
month. Our volunteers also completed decorating
stockings for all of our Soldiers. We eagerly await
their arrival and it will add some much needed holiday
spirit to our work area.. The BN cookie exchange and
ornament decorating party was the major event hosted
by the battalion this month. Our Christmas tree is
ready for some bling and it will proudly be displayed in
the hanger as well. We look forward to seeing all the
interesting designs that you have all come up with for
us. Our company mascot, SGT Barry, will be sending
out his fourth letter to the Unforgiven children at the
end of the month. He has been hard at work with
Shops Platoon and can’t wait to share his experiences.
Please inquire with my wife & FRG Leader, Jessica, or
your key caller to get your child added to SGT Barry’s
mailing list if they are not on there. The FRG will be
taking a break until after the holiday season, but rest assured that we will continue with events after we all get
some much needed family time.
Thank you all for your sacrifice and unwavering patience. Five more newsletters to go and we will once
again be reunited.
Sincerely,

E CO Equalizers
Commander: CPT Omar Villafane
First Sergeant: 1SG Jose Ventura
Greetings Equalizers Families and Friends,
This past month your Equalizers have been immersed in tactical and support training operations!
The Equalizers have been very busy supporting multiple JAAT gunnery missions as well as providing the
technical expertise of our UMO and HAZMAT trained personnel in support of our Brigade DATF emer-
gency deployment readiness exercise. This month your E Co FSC war fighter had their culminating training
event, the “Convoy Dry Fire Exercise.” Here our maintainers trained on convoy ops, recovery ops, refueling and
combat lifesaver skills. As a part of the GUNs BN ORG day, the Equalizers have organized the BN basketball
tournament at the end of the month, which is sure to be one for the re-
cord.
Congratulations to SGT Rodriguez and SPC Sanchez on their re-
enlistments back into the fight this month. SGT Rodriguez currently
serves as the company orderly room NCO and SPC Sanchez is one of the
skilled FSC maintainers down at
our motor pool. Both of these
Soldiers are outstanding exam-
ples of what the Army wants and
needs to retain as we go forward
with our force. This month the
company showed some muscle
with 2LT Houston representing
the Equalizer and GUNS family in the Camp Buehring Super 6 fitness
competition and the Camp Buehring Power lifting competition. 2LT
Houston placed 1st in both competitions showing the level of fitness only
found in the 4-227 FSC.
Our FRG continues to run forward with the “Battalion Walk to and From Kuwait” event, which en-
courages all spouses to log all miles walked, ran, and/or biked over the entire deployment time frame. The
event promotes health and fitness but focuses primarily on morale support to all deployed service members
in the unit. The participants have logged over 1150 miles towards our overall goal of 7600 miles, which is
the distance between Fort Hood and Kuwait. Again, I’d like to thank all of the Spouses, Family members,
and Equalizers supporters who are participating in this event and I welcome everyone else to join in on the
fun. If interested in participating please contact our FRG leader Mrs. Mandi Pfeil at

Guns Team,
Another month down! There have been some great events
from the DSW ceremony to the 4-227 ARB Cookie Exchange.
Additionally, renovations have begun on our hangar which will
improve the overall conditions for daily operations at Fort Hood.
As we look back on these past weeks, we have said say
goodbye to CW3 Kelly Maynard and CW3 Jake Gaitan as they both
retire from the Army. Also, good luck to MAJ Lynn Gower as she
leaves the Army to enter civilian life. The Rear Detachment gains a
new Soldier into our formation, SSG Richard Hillenbran. In his short
time with us, he is already setting the standard that will ensure our
success.
Our most recent event, the cookie exchange, was a great
activity that allowed Families to come together and decorate
ornaments for their Soldiers downrange. Santa also made a surprise
appearance for the kids. Families were able to take pictures and film
messages to their loved ones
for the holidays. Once again,
this could not have been
possible without the team work
and dedication from our
volunteers. A special thanks to
Amber Goodwin for
coordinating this event.
Finally, I would like to
congratulate two well
deserving volunteers for their
selfless commitment to their Companies and the Battalion.
Congratulations to Amanda Pfeil and Barbara Wade for being selected as

all you do!

Army Directive 2013-20 (Assessing Officers and Noncommissioned Officers on Fostering Climates of
Dignity and Respect and on Adhering to the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Program)
The contributions that leaders put towards the Sharp program is now being mandated to be annotated on
NCOERs and OERs. This is one of the Army’s ways in taking steps to foster a climate of dignity and respect
within our formations and ensure its Leaders are executing the same behavior. The directive will also enhance
the Evaluation Reporting System to assess how officers and NCOs are meeting their commitments and hold
them appropriately accountable.
Soldiers at all levels must do their part in eliminating Sexual Harassment and Assault. It doesn’t change
any situation if Soldiers sit back and say nothing. Take care of your battle buddies to your left and right and say
something or tell someone if you see or hear something suspicious.

Dear Soldiers and Families,
Greetings, blessings, and grace be with you! I hope this letter finds you and your households well.
Christmas is my favorite season of the year. It is a time to greet one another with great joy as we celebrate God
breaking through into creation to share in our humanity, so we may share in God’s communal divinity. This is
indeed a diverse “holiday” season for many will celebrate other equally important holidays like Hanukah,
winter’s Solstice, and Kwanza.
If I were to describe this holiday season with one word, it would be Shalom because it is rich in meaning
and precisely what we humans strive for: communal wholeness (Greek: Koinonia) with God and each other.
Since ancient biblical times our Jewish brothers and sisters strive to create and maintain a sense of Shalom in
their personal lives, as well as in society as a whole. Shalom is a sense of wholeness in life, a feeling of
blessedness in that God is with us and we are with God. God becomes (and is) our Shalom; God is why we
gather to celebrate the gift of life with joy in our hearts. When we live in communal solidarity with God and
each other, we experience a feeling of wholeness and blessedness. God is our Shalom wherein all have the
choice and opportunity to commune in the life of the Divine in a most intimate and mysterious way.
It is my hope and prayer that together we strive to live a life of Shalom, and celebrate the upcoming
holidays with joy and love in our hearts!
May God’s peace be with you and your loved ones always,
