There is nowhere in the world that captures the Brit gangster glamour scene like Spain’s Costa del Sol, especially Marbella...I’ve been obsessed with the place since going there as a child and have met many faces over the years some famous, some not so, but the most interesting, were always the chaps, the gangsters on the run.

This was the most powerful influence and driving force on what made me write Gunned Down. I wanted to capture the essence, the danger and the seduction, after all, it was, what Mexico was to the cowboys a place to run and hide, while still living the high life. The women, the champagne and the drugs were all part of the lure of an underbelly that existed in a hedonistic fake paradise.

Now firmly positioned as an actor in genre films especially London hard hitting gangster movies, the timing has never been better and with such a ferocious appetite for these Films, the likes of Rise of the Footsoldier, St Georges Day, The Business, the Sweeny, make Gunned Down THE definitive gangster movie of our time, a beautiful powerful blend of Heat meets Sexy Beast meets Point Blank-hitting action sequences, a gripping storyline the glamour of Marbella but with moral and principles that will resonate with audiences around the world, plus a stable of seasoned international actors that have become synonymous with these films.

Gunned Down - is a slick action packed heist thriller, steeped in morality, it’s Point Blank meets Sexy Beast meets Heat.

Jack London, career criminal, family man and vicious armed robber, is on a mission for revenge. When Jack’s father Alfie is brutally murdered and their money from the Heathrow airport heist stolen, Jack, his cousin Sammy and other gang members Eddie and Frank, realise there is more to the stolen money and Alfie’s murder than meets the eye - and once Jack begins to dig, he knows that his life will never be the same again.

Bent London detective Wickstead, had a personal vendetta against Alfie but never managed to arrest him, he is now equipped with a dark family secret about Jack that was given to him by wanted fugitive Ray Dixon who is on the run and hiding in Spain’s crime underbelly the Costa del Sol. But Ray Dixon does a deal with Wickstead, no extradition rights from Spain in exchange for Jack, Alfie and his firm, plus a cut of the money from the Heathrow Job.

Ray now gives the order for S.E London gangster Lenny Moore to murder Jack and his kids in the morning rush hour traffic. Jack has no choice but for him and his family to escape London and run to Marbella, where he confides in father figure Ray.

Along with being Alfie’s long time best friend and business associate, Ray is also a drug

dealer, and above all experienced draftsman (robbery-organiser). Ray also has his own dark secret, an unknown history with Jack’s mother Maureen London.

It’s in Marbella where Jack begins to unravel the mystery behind his father’s murder and the whereabouts of the stolen money. The shattering revelations that follow force Jack to return to London, not only to pull off one last robbery, but to kill the man who murdered his father – Lenny Moore.

The robbery goes bad, and Jack’s gang are brutally shot dead. Back on the run, Jack returns to Spain not only with the knowledge that Ray was the man responsible for the set up, but with the absolutely devastating revelation that Alfie was not Jack’s real father.

A desperate phone call reveals Nicole and the kids have been snatched and Jack races back to

Ray’s villa. A brutal confrontation takes place and Jack discovers that not only does Ray have the stolen money but also that he is Jack’s true father.

The two men fight and Ray is killed. Jack snatches the security box key, but before he can get to the vault, he has to rescue Nicole and his children, despite Nicole pleading to her possessed husband to leave the money. Jack doesn’t listen - he wants to start a new life and he knows that the money can get him just that.

Inside the vault Wickstead awaits and this culminates in a climatic and bloodied violent fight to the death.

Jack leaves the vault with not only the money but with full retribution but also badly wounded, his family waits and a new life beckons..or does it?

The introductory scene will be highly visual, gripping the audience immediately, showing this isn’t just another low budget film, this is something different. A film where the details in the story are shown, a film with depth and meaning. The first scene will create intrigue not only leaving the audience wondering how Jack ends up like that, but also leaves them wanting to see more because of how the film looks.

MAN ON A MISSION

This film is Jack’s story and I would want to play on giving the audience the impression we are seeing the world from Jack’s point of view. I would balance the toughness of Jack with his emotional side. He has fallen into a world and picked up the habits of his father, deep down though, it’s not what he wants. Even more so he desperately doesn’t want the same for his kids. He’s the type of father who will never show violence in front of them or condone swearing when they are around. Fiercely protective of them and what they are to be.

This is what drives him. Now his father has died, he has one last thing to do then he can escape from the world he knows. Jack is a complex character with layers that we will subtly portray without being too over the top. He’s not a man who will openly cry, but you can still feel the sadness by looking in his eyes. Subtlety is the key.

GENERAL

I am a big fan of symmetry and artistic framing, this can be used for establishing shots and scenes where appropriate. With simple but creative framing and lighting a real “look” can be brought to the film, again, making it stand out from other similar films. I want it to look photographic, modern and slick. I want to move the genre on and show even that on a limited budget you can still apply high production values and style.

Director’s Vision

Page 9: Gunned Down - Red Rock Entertainment Film Investment

9 Gunned Down

GLOSS

Marbella, Jack’s house and the clubs will look slick, glossy and aspirational. Framing will be well thought out and camera moves smooth. Here the colour palate will be warm and saturated.

It will subtly highlight the more welcoming world, the safer world that Jack wants him and his family to be in. This will be in contrast to the scenes outside of this world mentioned below.

REAL

Scenes where the boys are at work/in action, in times of danger or pursuit, the camera will be with Jack, giving his view of the scene and the audience will feel it with him, seeing and hearing what he does.

This will enhance the connection with the character. These scene tones will be more muted which will add feeling of coldness, a world which Jack wishes to leave.

JACK

Every scene with Jack in the camera will make us really feel like we are with Jack and it’s HIS story. Action in the scene will be seen from his viewpoint. This will also become part of the style and look of the film even though at the same time it will be subtle and might not be obvious on first viewing. It will also help with the budget constraints as less coverage will be needed. This will not however be detrimental to the story and will instead compliment it.

ACTION

I aim to make the violence and action wincing to watch. A lot of people watching this genre will want graphic action. Scenes such as when Jack uses a baseball bat in the club need to feel like he’s really done it and not over edited or “Hollywoodised”. Gun shots and bullet hits should sound and feel realistic.

Page 10: Gunned Down - Red Rock Entertainment Film Investment

10 Gunned Down

FADE OUT

The key to this film is getting the audience on Jack’s side. Feeling compassion and empathy for him and his situation. Playing on the fact that he is in a criminal world which he was born into and under pressure from his father to be in but desperately wants different for his own children.

If we care about Jack, we want to see him succeed in his goal. The ending will wrap up his mission and he dies content knowing that he has successfully broken the chain and his family will live on in a safe and crime free world.

Gunned Down is a tailor made project co-written by Fairbrass, that will showcase his true talent as an actor, who has the rare skills of being both physical and having real emotional range. This mixture combined with a high level of screen violence believability that is so realistic and brutal it is totally unmatched in the UK.

Craig’s upcoming lead roles include heavyweight drama Let Me Survive for award winning Director Edwardo Rossoff (Helen Mirren’s The Debt) and the producers of The Girl With The Pearl Earring, to the lead in his first US action vehicle The Outsider, a Taken style thriller set in Los Angeles with James Caan and Jason Patric. Craig has also completed filming the lead role in uber stylish U.K action thriller Breakdown. Craig has also become an icon amongst video gamers in recent years, lending his voice to one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1, 2 and 3. Recent film credits include: White Noise 2, Devil’s Playground, Hijacked and Universal’s Get Lucky.

Cast: British actor Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, The bank Job, White Noise 2) is fast becoming a sought after name on the International/U.S indie action scene. Fairbrass’s profile rose dramatically after his powerful and violent portrayal of true-life gangster Pat Tate in the smash hit UK thriller Rise of the Footsoldier. After selling close to 1 million DVD units in the UK and earning over £400,000 on VOD Sky Box Office, critics and hardcore fans of the film singled out Fairbrass for his standout performance.

The same was said for his performance in St George’s Day - again critics and fans were unanimous on Fairbrass’s portrayal of sensitive London gangster Ray Collishaw. The film has completely reignited the dynamic of the DVD/ VOD London crime thriller, where it has remained in the top 10 Cinema films and DVD chart and most popular movie on Sky Box Office. This physically imposing burly Brit actor has a real point of difference.
