Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands, protect them as they protect us. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior.
JUNE 19Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1; Psalm 63; Galatians 3:26-29;Luke 9:18-24
We find Jesus in today’s Gospel taking the question of who his disciples think he is and turning it around, telling us who we must be. If we are to follow him, we must be willing to do as he did, that is, take up our cross each and every day. As we reflect on these readings today, perhaps the question for us is how we lose our life in order to save it.

JUNE 19, 2016 – TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEToday’s Gospel will help set the tone for the coming weeks and months. Having placed our faith in the Messiah, we are told that we must take up our cross every day and follow him. Strengthened by the power of Christ’s death and resurrection, which we celebrated fully over the recent Triduum and Easter seasons, let us pray today to accept willingly the crosses of this life that we may know the fullness of life in the world to come.

SPECIAL COLLECTION THIS WEEK:We have 18 seminarians – truly a blessing – and we pray the number will continue to increase. With this blessing comes
the need for support so we can continue providing for their educational needs. The diocesan-wide Special Collection for Seminarians will be this weekend. Gifts to the collection support the education and formation costs associated with seminarians, which continually rise. Your gift to this important appeal makes the difference for our faith leaders of tomorrow by providing necessary educational funding. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work together to continue God’s work.
Contact Mary Jo Schwaiger([email protected], 251-979-4927)
To all our fellow Catholics, we urge an intensification of your prayers and fasting for a new birth of freedom in our beloved country. We invite you to join us in an urgent prayer for religious liberty.Almighty God, Father of all nations, For freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1). We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties; By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land. We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Fortnight for Freedom is from June 21 – the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More – to July 4, Independence Day. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT FORTNIGHT4FREEDOM.ORG.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
While “resolutely determining to journey” with Jesus this week, which priorities do I need to reorder? Which relationships refresh or rearrange? Which judgments of others do I need to transform into serene and nonjudgmental prayer?
? Question of the Week
ENTER INTO GOD'S MERCYJUBILEE DOOR OF MERCY The initial rite of the Jubilee is the opening of the Holy Door. This door is one which is opened during the Holy Year at The Major Basilicas of Rome. For those not able to make a Holy Year pilgrimage to Rome, each Diocesan Bishop is able to designate churches in his diocese that are Holy Year Pilgrimage Churches. These churches will contain a designated door as the Jubilee Door of Mercy. Archbishop Rodi has designated Our Lady of the Gulf such a church. The rite of opening the Holy Door illustrates symbolically the idea that during the Jubilee, the faithful are offered an “extraordinary pathway” to salvation. The opportunity for people to pass through a Jubilee Door of Mercy offers them the extraordinary opportunity, out of the ordinary, to gain the Jubilee Year indulgence, but also the opportunity to live the Jubilee as a pathway of conversion.
JUBILEE INDULGENCEThe Jubilee Indulgence is received by having passed through the Door of Mercy, and fulfilling conditions for obtaining the Jubilee Indulgence.• Celebrate the Sacrament of Penance with the intention of shunning a sinful way of life;• Participate at Mass & Receive Holy Communion within a reasonable period after making one’s Confession;• Pass through the Jubilee Door of Mercy • Pray the Creed, and a prayer for the Intentions of the Holy Father;
Universal: Human Solidarity – That the aged, marginalized, and those who have no one may find–even within the huge cities of the world–opportunities for encounter and solidarity. Evangelization: Seminarians and Novices That seminarians and men and women entering religious life may have mentors who live the joy of the Gospel and prepare them wisely for their mission.
• And for this Jubilee Year of Mercy perform a Corporal Work of Mercy.• It is recommended, but not required, the recitation of the Jubilee Year written by Pope Francis.
“Through indulgences the faithful can obtain the remission of temporal punishment resulting from sin, for themselves, and also for the souls in purgatory. “ (CCC, no. 1498)
JUBILEE YEAR PRAYERLord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees You sees Him. Show us Your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Lord, let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that You spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of God who manifests His power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be Your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that Your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send Your Spirit and consecrate everyone of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee Year of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and Your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen (Pope Francis)
THE CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY• Feed the hungry • Give drink to the thirsty • Shelter the homeless • Clothe the naked • Visit the sick
• Visit the prisoners • Bury the dead• Give alms to the poor.
ACT OF CONTRITION0 my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. And I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because I have offended You my God who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Your grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
