Dancesport Gala Challenge
Congratulations to our wonderful Year Five DanceSport
team that travelled out to Quaycentre at Sydney
Olympic Park, Homebush, yesterday afternoon to
rehearse and then compete in the evening at the annual
DanceSport Challenge Gala Event for 2018.
All of our students looked terrific in their stylish
outfits and proudly and confidently showed their
impressive style on the dance floor. Combining with
their partner the students put on a dynamic and
professional display dancing the Jive, Tango, Cha Cha
and Salsa. It was a a fantastic event for our students
to be involved with and even though they had only
participated in about 15 dancing lessons they looked so
mature and at ease.
Congratulations to all the girls and boys, to Mrs
Hanney, Mrs Ballantine, our dance tutor Josh, and to
all families for supporting and encouraging your
children to participate in this wonderful opportunity.
This was such a fantastic night and to see the delight
on the faces of students and the skill and improvement
in their movements was amazing. Well done, we are very
proud of you all.

The Tell Them From Me student survey (Term 3) I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other
public schools in the state, will participate in a
Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From
Me student feedback survey. The survey measures
factors that are known to affect academic achievement
and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide
survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective
teaching practices.
You may remember that our students also participated in
a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year.
Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year
allows us to identify trends in student responses as well
as track engagement and motivation across the school
year.
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to
provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they
think about school life, how engaged they are with school
and the different ways that teachers interact with them.
More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the
world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million
students. Capturing the voices of our students will help
improve how we do things at our school.
More information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The
survey is conducted online and will typically take less than
30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during
school hours between 27 August and 26 October.
Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the
survey has been sent home with students. If you do not
want your child or children to participate, please return
the form to the school by 14 September 2018. Copies of
the form and FAQs are available from:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
Regional Spelling Bee Last Wednesday, Aaron, Samuel, Tyson and Elizabeth
competed in the next round of the Premier’s Spelling Bee,
which was held at Bonnyrigg Heights Public School. All of
our students did a wonderful job in their divisions, with a
special mention to Tyson who progressed all the way
through to round seven of the competition.
Congratulations to all four students on this wonderful
achievement. We are extremely proud of you!
Fire in the Fields Performance Last Wednesday night our 3-6 dance group performed at
Fire in the Fields. The students have been working with
Mrs Maihi from James Meehan High School to
choreograph their performance. They danced to Finesse,
a Bruno Mars song, showcasing a range of jazz and hip hop
techniques. We also entered a second group of students
into the showcase, which were our Dancesport students,
they danced to the Cha Cha, Jive and Tango. Both
performances were outstanding and displayed a true
commitment by attending weekly dance rehearsals.
SASS Recognition Week There are many people who do different jobs in our school
system to ensure everything runs smoothly. You all
probably know our wonderful School Administration Staff
(SAS) working in the front office, but we also have
Support Staff working in the library and school grounds,
as well as in classrooms. Last week was School
Administrative and Support (SAS) Staff Recognition
Week, a time to acknowledge and thank the often unsung
heroes in our public schools. It is our chance to say a
special thank you to all of them in recognition of the
valuable services they provide to our school community
and the education of our students. If you are in school this
week, you might like to add your personal thanks to our
great team of friendly and hard-working SAS and Support
Staff.
Have a wonderful week!

School Banking
is on Friday
Remember, Friday is School Banking day and students
should bring in their weekly deposit.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at
Guise Public School. We would also like to thank the
wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co‐
ordinators and process our banking every week.
K-2 Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum Excursion Last Thursday, our K-2 students visited the Wollondilly Heritage Centre and Museum. Students experienced
hands on, rotational activities based on some aspects of daily life in colonial Australia. They were able to
see and experience the functions of working in a pioneer’s cottage, making butter and how people lived in
the past. Students participated in laundry washing methods before the development of washing machines
and engaged in a classroom lesson, before the use of technology. They enjoyed grading (and tasting) apples,
learnt about poultry farming and how eggs were packed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and the students
were complimented on their respectful behaviour and curiosity for how people lived in the past.
Stage 2 Excursion to Riverside Theatre On Thursday last week, our Stage 2 students were extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity through
our partnership with ASPIRE, to go to Parramatta Riverside Theatre to see “Red Racing Hood”.
The show was very entertaining and all of the students behaved beautifully and enjoyed the day. The
theatre was a new experience for many of our students and we were lucky to be able to ask the actors
questions at the end of the performance, so they could better understand how the show was put together.
