INVOLVE
SORT refers to the abbreviation : Seniors On Reciprocal Tourism . It is a multilateralproject involving 8 EU partners from South Eastern Europe. The main idea is to design, trial, evaluate, document, disseminate and valorize a new touristic package and service for seniors 55+ ( years ).
The main objective is to facilitate the mobility of seniors 55+ towards the partners’ local communities by giving them the properties of a wanderer - guest, as well as thatof a volunteer.
The SORT projectThe SENIORS ON RECIPROCAL TOURISMproject addresses the specific challenge and scope of the topic, as set out in COSME Work Program 2015by focusing on the enhancement of the competitiveness and sustainable growth of the senior tourism.
The project is expected to contribute to the COSME Program in terms of encouraging the creation of a favourable environment for thedevelopment of undertakings in the senior tourism sector and of promoting a sustainable trans-nationalcooperation among 7 EU countries for the realization of these undertakings.
Results
The Prototype SORT Model
Local Project Coordinator, Administrative/expert, Senior over 55 years old, journalist or expert in social work in education, Physical Activity Expert, Senior counselor expert.
has been developed through regular meetings of the members of the Local Working Groups (LWGs) in each partner community. The team of the LWGs consisted of the following experts:
Each LWG has identified and mapped the attractions, resources, infrastructures, facilities and services of their region. Subsequently they selected the most appropriate places and the most suitable activities for seniors to visit and take part in. There were also involved local/grass root organizations, where the seniors would realize their voluntary services.
Basic result of the SORT project is the creation of the Prototype SORT Model which concerns a 10-day touristic program, based on the needs and desires of the senior 55+,combining both the touristic and the voluntary activities.
NATURE / CULTURE-HERITAGE/ SPORTS /EVENTS / SOCIAL LIFE/ SPECIAL INTEREST.Participants were 4 seniors 55+ from each county/partner as follows:-Greece sent to Italy 4 seniors; -Italy sent to Slovenia 4 seniors; -Slovenia sent 4 seniors to Hungary; -Hungary sent 4 seniors to Croatia; -Croatia sent 4 seniors to Romania. -Romania sent 4 seniors to Bulgaria; -Bulgaria sent 4 seniors to Greece;
The Touristic and Voluntary activities were designed and in accordance to the touristic portfolio of each partner country and according with the following categories:

For the needs of the Project the Prototype SORT Model was applied at the 7 partner countries, in an only 6-day version in order to see if the Model ran efficiently. With these pilot applications we were able to find and evaluate the weak and strong points of the Model. We concluded that the voluntary activities have helped seniors understand quickly and effectively the way of thinking of the local community of the region they have visited thus feeling more useful. , The language barriers between the seniors and the local community,in all pilot applications, haven’t hindered the cooperation between them. Volunteers helped as translators and therefore the problem of communication was overcome.

The basic strong points of the Model for the seniors and the local communities are: ·Through the voluntary activities we promote the values and the meaning of voluntarism·Through the touristic activities we reinforce the local economy and strengthen the SMEs in the tourism sector by boosting the low and medium touristic period·Seniors have the opportunity to meet with new cultures, to socialize and to interact with different people·Promotion of the natural and cultural conservation in each country through the outdoor and educational touristic activities·Strengthening cooperation between the private and public sector·Development of partnerships on an international level between the Project Partners and on a national level between the Partners and stakeholders (Local NGOs, SMEs in tourism sector, Local Authorities) involved in the implementation of local Pilot Applications, leading to the promotion and the continuation of tourism activities and of the Model·Development and implementation of the activities of the Prototype SORT Model

mainly on the moral and psychological support the patients
need and development of self confidence
after such an intervention.
